  11. We are talking about TSSAA refs.. not just AAU refs. The Halls Invitational was going on. They had 4 mats. That calls for 6 officials. Im sure we had other tournaments(high school) going on that called for our TSSAA officials to be hired.. and that leaves only the AAU officials along with a Select few TSSAA refs. I don't have all the high school and youth schedules directly in front of me, however i am certain that more than 2 or 3 tournaments we conducted this saturday. TSQUAD- Are you a coach or parent, both? If a parent, I would suggest letting the coaches in your club know your concerns so that if they feel the same way, they can pass it on the the Regional directors whom attend these meetings. Each Region is assigned such a director. They are always trying to better the sport. Rome was not built in a day, however since i have been here(2007) I have seen great strides to better the youth wrestling in TN.
  12. I can tell you from being in the corner coaching, to actually being a ref on the mat with big matches on the line, it is not that easy at all. The biggest issue with having all TSSAA refs is simply NOT ENOUGH CERTIFIED REFS STATEWIDE to cover the big tournaments. When you run multiple tournaments on any given Saturday, You simply cut your high quality refs down. Plan and simple, We Have a lack of Quality Refs throughout TN. I am not going to justify the calls that a ref makes on the mat however. You have to make an effort to be in the spot for the call, you have to know the rules. No human is perfect however, so from time to time we all make mistakes. I can tell you personally that Don wants everyone be at the TSSAA standard, Its just the numbers are not there to be choosy. Please next Sept. and Oct. when you have time come to the preseason meetings so that we can get these issues out and have everyone on board to fix the problems. Coach Jones

  19. So, In these pools each team gets 4 matches, with a Bye round. Are you able to Cross Bracket for the 5 match? Or is it the same as tournaments where the bye counts as a match? Curious.
