  1. You nailed it MC Dad. Wish I had written that. Didn't mean for my little frown face to indicate disappointment in the teams effort. I was just poking a little fun at myself. I never felt Marion County was not going to win this game, even down 14 - Zip in the first half. I thought the first field goal in regulation was good; however, wide left by JUST THAT MUCH. Here's a thumb up for all the Marion County players/coaches for a fine effort. I know its tough to let a hard fought contest slip away at the end; it can only make us better in the future. Murphy, NC was obviously a very fine football team. We're well on our way to becoming one.
  2. Well, its final. Marion County loses in OT 24 - 27. I'm definitely

    Week 0 Games

I'll have to catch that one on the Saturday morning replay. I'll be up the road at Marion County / Murphy, N.C.
  4. IMO, they're going to be a very good ball team. The team has good senior leadership, experienced skill players, and plenty of size and team speed. The offense has looked good in all scrimmages/jamboree. The defense is definitely better than it showed in the SVC Jamboree last Friday. The real test for Marion County is how well they cope with a killer early season schedule, i.e. Boyd Buchanon and Tyner both on the road. Even though Sequatchie County, Boyd and Tyner are getting all the early season accolades, Marion County just may prove to be the real sleeper in the region. I'm excited. I hope this time tomorrow night I'm feeling like and not like Go Warriors!!
  5. South Pittsburg by 14+. It'll be difficult for most opponents to chase these players around for an entire game. Speed everywhere.
  6. The Robinson you're referring to must be Robert (#24), because Hades will freeze before either of Keith's boys (Cody and Chase) will ever leave SP. As for Robert and Montrell, I'm confident that both will remain academically eligible, neither will drop out, and neither will think of transferring anywhere. They're both good young men totally dedicated to the SP athletic program. Just guessing, but I would bet the return of Arland Matthews this year will end the migration of SP players to NJ.
  7. Well, for what its worth, I saw enough from Boyd to be impressed. Losing to SP 6-0 in one quarter doesn't make BB a bad team. That big back (Hathaway?) was impressive. Having to play this big team for a full 48 minutes worries me about going there this year. I'm certain that the Marion County defense will improve, probably beginning Monday evening. I'm confident we'll be competive; I hope we'll win. I know it'll be a good game for both teams.
  8. Montrel Mitchell in the backfield, Chase Robinson (brother of QB Cody) at TE. I believe Montrel scored the TD against Boyd Buc.
  9. Lookout Valley scores early on Sequatchie County to take a short lived 6 - 0 lead to open the Jamboree. Bledsoe County beats Marion County. South Pittsburg beats Boyd Buc. Marion County beats South Pittsburg. Go figure!! IMO, if valley football teams aren't ready to play this season, they're going to end up beaten. Jamboree football games may not prove much, but I'm convinced that there is a lot more parity to area teams that most people think. Early season games could provide some real surprises. And one parting comment to the SP fan I overheard offering a large bet to any taker that SP would go undefeated this year. The person who quipped "A fool and his money are soon parted" probably had someone like you in mind. The Pirates are strong, no doubt, but if Vic Grider were a gambling man, even he would be willing to take that bet. Thanks to all the team players and coaches for some entertaining football tonight.
  10. From what I understand Coach Pruitt is going to run an offense similiar to the one run by an Alabama high school. This school has won a couple of state championships with the offensive scheme. I watched a scrimmage against Ridgeland, Ga. Any team that defends the pass and neglects the run is going to get burned by MC. Their offense utilizes all options available. Those two backs, #23 and #20, are going to get plenty of opportunities to run with the football. There was a freshman, #15 I think, that also looked very good. One scrimmage doesn't qualify me as an authority, but I believe this is a team to watch. Tough early season schedule will tell a lot.
  11. I would like to hear some news on this scrimmage also. I heard through the grapevine a few days ago that So. Pittsburg is loaded and looking strong. No surprise to me. The Sequatchie Valley Jamboree is this Friday night. There will be few secrets to hide after that. Should be exciting.
  12. Marion County won the football game last year by completing a TD pass late in the game, similiar to the way the So. Pittsburg Middle School championship team barely got by the beat up MC Middle School team to finish the year undefeated. Neither team was lucky. I saw both games. I believe that the best team won in each case. The Pirates are loaded with team speed and ability. From what I see, so is Marion County. All I foresee is four more years of hard fought football games as these freshman classes compete. Both programs have been down; both are well on their way back. I do believe that, given their respective regions, Marion County has by far the more difficult road to travel. The Jamboree is only a week away. The SP/MC quarter should be entertaining.
  13. I doubt that anyone will destroy South Pittsburg this year, especially region foes. They have good senior leadership, several starting Soph. with experience, and a few Freshmen that may start who will be "mentally unprepared" for all of five seconds after the first kickoff. Don't expect the South Pittsburg Freshmen football players to either look or play like typical Freshmen. They won't.
