  1. Speaking from the bitter experience of having been there, done that, sometimes those new t-shirt ideas that sound so great around the liars table, turn out not to be so funny at game time. Careful what you suggest, some wit might turn it around on you. No slogans needed for this game. Over quickly.
  2. Meanwhile, interrupting only to briefly address the actual thread topic, Pirates win easily.
  3. No Roy, I just addressed the "Did he, did he not" conversation by noting what Coach Ross said in a post game interview. SP did as good a job as could be expected against MC for as long as they stayed effective. Two fine coaching jobs by both sides IMO. Not sure what your fixation on the hut 2 suggestion refers to, penalties I suppose, but Coach Ross don't know me or give a squat what I might suggest. He's likely already aware of your feelings regarding that anyway, since it shows up in every other post. I straddle the fence at this game nowadays (not literally Roy) and lean more than a little toward SP's side. Did not enjoy the 2nd half and left early when things fell apart. Pirates played hard, have improved steadily the past three games, should be 2 - 1 right now IMO, and very well could go undefeated from here on out, with BB the only real challenge. I'm on your side now Roy but I don't eat fudge rounds, own a Murphy book, keep anybodys balls dry or care to look at any poles. I stay quiet at SP games but always keep close enough to erasure to enjoy his show. I'll look for you at the next home game.
  4. Yep........recon I agree with that. During a post game inteview with a local station, Coach Ross said the difference in 2nd half was SP changed from an unexpected 1st half offense to one that MC had prepared for all week. Coach Ross shrugged his shoulders, said little, and seemed to indicate when SP played what MC had prepared for all week, what did you expect would happen. Imagine Vic had little choice but to change, what with the condition his players were in after half time. I watched the Pirates walk off the field at half time; they were banged up plenty. Failure to score just before half also had to hurt Pirate morale. IMO, both coaches utilized their available talent well; MC's stable was just too full for SP to handle an entire game. Will say this, there was light years difference in the overall effort displayed by the Pirates this year at MC than what was put forth last year at SP. Talked to a knowledgable football fan that said MC better enjoy this year cause Vic would put a real hurting on them next year down the road. I said "Listen here little feller, that's a mighty bold statement to make considering the beat down MC has delivered two years running." He proceeded to rattle off some player stats that backed his point up. Maybe there's hope for SP soon. All I know personally is MC is head and shoulders above the Pirates this year, mostly because of overall talent pool; same advantage SP held over MC for many recent years past. Before the game talked to an MC coach. Asked him if any mercy would be given SP tonight. Final score reflects his answer.
  5. If I had any influence over a young person today I'd nudge them toward Golf.......how hard can it be to whack a little ball down a mown lawn then putt it into a hole many times wider than the ball itself. Yep, easily mastered, safe sport with high earning potential for gifted folks. I do agree that football as we all know it will see increasingly restrictive rules and lower overall participation. Looks like the new TSSAA practice rules are starting the process now.
  6. Sue's Snack Bar maybe, Bama Club (hope not). Nohope is happy to admit being to "young" to play that game. Old building I referenced was directly across road from present day softball field. Pics at SP Historical Museum shows it. Still there when I was younger. Old Sinclair station was on top of hill.....
  7. Old two story clapboard building; might have had a sinclair pump out front long ago but then again I might be thinking of the one further up on the hill. Building was backdrop for a lot of old football team pictures without intending to be. Tooter Moss car lot was small on a gravel lot with a very small business hut as I recall. RIP to the man; another local legend gone.
  8. You'll get my vote. Cudos to the sole member who didn't forget what country he lived in. On topic, suggest Vic recruit Roy, Glenn and team69 for coaches next season. Hole nocking team with run fast(er) runners who will do it all with class, and a HC that won't tolerate and don't need the railbird advice. Instant winning combination. JMO Now that dust has settled, waters calmed and storm has spent itself, want to say that Coach Moore was the most underpaid coach in Tennessee this year. Diminished talent pool, impossible schedule, unrealistic fan base expectations, and an increasingly embarrassing tidal wave of critism from every direction, its admirable the man even finished the season without walking out. He deserved better and good luck to him.
  9. That story made FOX NEWS this morning around 4:30 AM. Map of Tennessee with a Star over South Pittsburg, with both ladies asking viewers for comment on the new SP law against public posting of negative comments. I think Ambassador's "Why can't we be friends" might have been playing in the background......... Congrats to Vic. Exactly what the program needed right now.
  10. Congrats to Marion County on a great win. Poster above from outside the valley noted that MC has a good TEAM, something not to many local non Marion fans have been willing to admit. Huge win against a quality opponent last night. Respect to all players and coaches; looking forward to that Gold Ball this time next week. Stay focused and finish the journey. Classic game for the ages last night.
  11. The Warriors have a very good, well coached team, with everything working right now. Hope both injured individuals heal quickly. Just keep winning and the team is validated. RE all these opinions on Zeman's worth to the team; no team can lose an impact player like him and be unaffected. That said, from friends and co workers famaliar with the program, they still have some good years coming up. I believe Ross / team will be just fine next season. Good luck in upcoming games.
  12. Congrats to Whitwell on season and playoff opportunity. Tough place to start; good luck.
  13. IDK about team issues on personnel, playing time, etc. Gut just says its the wrong time of the season to be concentrating on issues like this. Support what got the team this far and address these things after season final, whenever that might be. Will say I've seen these two often discussed players a few times and was impressed each time. Gotta rely on coaches decisions, especially now. If ever a team needed fan support, in large numbers, it's right now. It's the playoffs, and each game will just get more difficult. It's still my opinion, regardless of what you might think about coach decisions, SP players have stopped themselves in games more than poor coaching decisions have.
  14. Pretty much confirms what TTP said. Also some good insight into the head coach. MC / TC game should be a good one assuming it happens.
  15. I hope and pray they do. I absolutely love watching MC take the sweater vest team to the woodshed. That's another game I'll make it to. They should be getting used to being eliminated by MC. Go Warriors.
  16. That MC kicker is a weapon. He'll win some close games in the play off run I'd bet. RE the SP player you say tripped, yeah he did. Wasn't over being excited though. By that time he was hurting; could see it when he got up. That kid played hard all night. Took one hit on sideline that made me and other rail birds groan; popped right back up and back to huddle. Much respect for that kid. One hard nosed player. I know you didn't mean anything disrespectful; just felt that needed pointing out. Good luck to MC; I was impresses. They've improved since I last saw them.
  17. LMBO......yep, me too. Well, fast for an old man anyway. MC reaches mercy rule time and lights go off at stadium.......classic and just too dang funny. We will never live that down.
  18. TTP ole BP probably deserved that but, truthfully, with score at 19 - 6 MC in second and SP driving past midfield......IF they'd just hung on to the ball and finished, a 19 - 13 score in second against MC would have looked pretty good......but we couldn't pull it off, fumbled, MC made us pay........game over far as I was concerned. Congrats to Warrior team, coaches and fans. Everything clicking at the right time. I will be there when / if TC comes to town. Pirates have some work to do....on fastness and other things. I just don't think this team yet realizes their potential if that just focus....they'll get there.
  19. Note from Nohope to any upcoming MC opponents. Pay attention. Earlier in this thread it was suggested to tackle Zeman low. Well, I saw one Pirate try that. Zeman cleared our guy by 18 inches or more and kept on churning, and I ain't joking either. Way I see it, you can tackle him low and get embarrassed, tackle him high and get run over, or scream for help and hope a whole bunch show up before he gets there. He's a Hoss; Nohope says hats off to him.
  20. May sound lame from someone who believed the announcer and left at half but, you're right. SP attendance was pitiful. Class act by MC coach to call off the dogs early. Marion should go far this year . Pirates did break a few runs; couldn't hang on to the ball. Congrats to both teams; move on. Pitiful SP fan base, just pitiful.
  21. Well, the whole school block and area around must have the same generator. I left just after lights went out (didn't Bob say game was cancelled if lights went out). I'm at home and game is back on. He owes me three bucks. First half went exactly as I figured it would. SP simply must stop killing themselves to contend. Game turned on SP fumble in 2nd qtr and simply fell apart after that. MC is very good, SP not nearly as bad as halftime score indicates if they'd just stay sharp. This whole light fiasco is just to funny. I just have to wonder...........
  22. If any computer Nerd ever plugs in seasonal stats and other intangibles I'll pay to see the results if these two '08 teams are paired. In short, during that first game Vic exploited everything his team had to give and MC coach (es).........didn't. Out coached, embarrassingly so. Truth hurts sometimes, but that's the way I saw things. The same night SP lost that heartbreaker in the cold, MC won a heartstopper, on the road, in the same temperatures, over a team SP had sqeaked by late in the season, at home, by the same single point margin MC beat them by. But, since SP did get the early season stomping, I realize why most folks did, and still do, believe SP team was superior one by far that year. '08 MC team will forever be remembered for excelling far beyond expectations while '08 SP team...........won't. Fact is, SP simply ran into eventual '08 state champs one game before MC did. Tough break for both teams. Maybe these boys can put on a old timers exhibition game someday. That'd still be fun to watch. More fun than what's gonna happen Friday night probably.........but, I've been around enough decades to know strange things can, sometimes do, happen in this game. Still believe MC dominates but it is at SP, and I remember the headline many years ago..................yep, strange things can happen.
  23. HR#'s, I'm no longer the dedicated, unapologetic MC fan I was in the past but, I'll take a shot at this. Speaking only for myself, I admit that in 06 I'd have been more satisfied with a single win over SP than the few wins MC managed, 07 same thought, and by 08, looking back, darned right, I'd personally give even that season up for just that one never achieved win over the Pirates. Coaching ability of Vic has been questioned by some. NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, knew both MC and SP starters individual abilities any better than I did in '08. That '08 SP team, and I don't care who disagrees, was no more overall talented than the '08 MC team, yet they pasted MC early. MC coach, who I admire still, was simply out coached in his first Head Coach outing. JMO but nobody will ever change it. So yeah, there are, in any given year, plenty of fans, possbily players also, who would exchange any success just to experience that one win over the other. Unrealistic and certainly not prevalent, but it exists, on both sides, and everyone knows it. MC fans are going to relish their teams achievement Friday night just as fervently as SP fans have enjoyed the past eight years. I'm personally going to enjoy the game, regardless the outcome. Since no family member currently plays for either team, that old intensity over this game just ain't there anymore. When immediate family participates, gloves are off and any season success rests, IMO, squarely on this games outcome.
  24. It's Nohope's personal opinion that this is the first football thread this year to approach entertainment degree that was the normal in past CoactT glory years of posting. Good to see an occasional post from past contributors. I'll take edgy threads anyday to the vanilla type that has become the norm for these threads. TTP / OP verbal feuds are now and have always been some of the best thrust / parry / thrust exchanges around. Roy's comments are more icing on an already over-creamed cake. More I say, not less. To everyone who predicts Pirates score 20 or more Friday night, I say "You're surely dreaming". Would like to see it but not gonna happen. From middle of 2nd Qtr I'm guessing this games history. From there, final score will depend entirely on what MC coach decides it will be. Not something I hope to see or enjoy admitting but, like Ambassador, that's the reality of what the situation is right now. That opinion is based entirely on assumption that all these SP injury reports are factual and not smoke. Put all SP starters on the field and everything changes. I hope both teams quickly put this game behind them and both advance far into their respective classification playoffs.
  25. Glen, Nohope here. Big fan. To quote Ambassador "LMBO" at that post. Few folks would walk away from that salary offer, and no one would walk away really fast. Just to be clear to earlier poster, most of my past coaches in this particular rivalry were the ones putting up numbers like........0 , 7 , 13.........maybe 20 once. I felt the pain. It was bad. BUT, past actions don't justify this particular Pirate team having to pay the piper, especially with all they've had to deal with recently. But they might. Hope not.
