  1. Never took it as personal.......and never will......just felt went you responded to OP and claimed LaVergne was not explosive in any phase, that was a bit of a stretch. Thank you for the well wishes and Good luck to your Blaze and continued success to your boy. Who is a heck of a LB by the way.
  2. Some of the stuff on this thread that is nothing to do with HS football and links to articles with folks names and criminal situations is inappropriate and embarrassing. You folks posting that stuff should look in the mirror and honestly evaluate what you see looking back at you. As for Friday nights game, LaVergne will have thier hands full and need to play near perfect to put themselves in a situation to win Friday night. However LaVergne is improving every week and this young team is showing signs of becoming a team to watch late in the year. Should be great weather and a nice crowd and if LaVergne can play 4 good quarters, we should see a heck of a HS football game. Because contrary to what Mr. Patton and the Blaze folks thinks, LaVergne can be explosive and can do some things offensively that could give Oakland trouble but can LaVergne find a way to stop Oakland? Should be fun.
  3. No explosiveness hu! If u saw the Blackmen game and I know you did then you would know, if you have any football knowledge, that the score was 24-14 early in the third and LaVergne had the ball with a shot to make it a 3 point game but LaVergne fumble and the flood gates opened. So lets think about the no explosiveness comment and thinking as if Blackmen had no adversity in that game. I guess I need to consider the caliber of people and the football IQs on these boards before I blow a gasket reading some of the comments on here. Most folks only see a big final score and think LaVergne did nothing well and had no shot in that game. Now did LaVergne tackle well? No. Even if they did #5 would still have had a big game cause he is just that good. Blackmen is and was the better team but LaVergne was 3 play or so away from making that thing interesting.
  4. 4 votes for LaVergne? Kind of shocked I would have thought all would lean toward the #1 team in the state. LaVergne has a lot of talent but can they hang around all four? Sure would make things interesting if LaVergne pulls the upset.
  5. Donkey, not sure what your post is saying but I would not think Blackmen will put 8-9 in the box went you can count on one hand the called runs in the last two games for LaVergne. Also did all you know that LaVergne has only given up 3 sacks the whole year? With throwing it 35-40 times a game that not to bad. So this running for his life stuff is based off past years. The OL is not great but it's not as bad as you think. (very young) meaning the whole team. I think you all could be surprised what happens Friday night.
  6. I think your being nice. Even with some sloppy play at times for Smyrna, they look much better then Gallatin. The team speed wasn’t even close. Gallatin has a lot of work to do before facing McKinley. What the heck was the wave doing in a shotgun 3 and 4 wide set? Is that new? It did not look good anyway. Good luck Wave, you may need it game 1.
  7. Has anyone been to a Lavergne practice yet this year? I was at last night's session and the intensity level was very high. Now yea, I was watching from the school parking lot but wow; it’s like night and day from last year. The speed of the drills, the expectation of the staff and the buy in from the kids in what they are telling them was impressive. I was also impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities. The stadium was cleaned and painted the grass looked to be in good shape, it just looked like someone is taking pride in the appearance of there facilities for once. I can't wait to see them get the pads on and see what they can do; in any event, I'm impressed with what I saw last night. First scrimmage is 2 weeks away, at Goodpasture.
  8. Lavergne went 2 W's, 2 L's and 2 ties; they beat Page 6-1 and Shelbyville, 4-2. They tied Oakland 3-3 and tied Beech 2-2; they lost to Gallatin 3-2 and lost to Liberty Tech (Jackson TN) on the last play of the game 4-3. They looked a bit sloppy against Beech and Gallatin but all and all they look very athletic and the QB look sharp most of the day with a few bad passes. Congrats to Smyrna for wining it all. QB looked sharp and had a lot of weapons to go to battle with. Sharp looking team!
  9. Yep! I think its; Wilson Central, Mt Juliet, Lavergne, And I'm not sure of the 4th team. May be Beech???? But Mt. Juliet will be playing Lavergne. Not sure about the freshmen.....but I think they will be there on another field.
  10. Here's a good question: with this being such a tough region, what teams will make the playoffs? Also, will we have another scenario like last year where a good team gets left out like Smyrna did last year? I know the Playoff system was changed again but I feel we still could have 1 or 2 teams that will be left out that deserve in more then a team from a lesser region.
  11. My point: there are plenty of qualified OL coaches out there; head coaches tend to hire men who know how to do that. There are not so many qualified throws coaches; people tend to think that any old person can do that, so they put any old person in the position. IanMackaye: help me understand here; are you saying they brought him on to keep him as a throws coach?
  12. I’ve meet and spoken with (The New Line Coach) Coach Stephens or Coach Mark as the kids call him at a few of the Track meets in the spring and he did play D1 football in the MAC Conference. He was recruited as a Tackle/TE and moved to DE his sophomore year. I’m sure he knows the game of football; I mean he did play football at a high level. With him coaching the throwing events and the improvement they have shown in the short time he has been there, tells me the man can coach the little things and technique and footwork. Add in his playing experience and the familiarity with the kids and it makes sense. Well see if this was a good heir or not but I feel pretty good about it.
  13. A goodthrows coach is probably harder to come by than a good line coach. I'm not sure what you mean?
  14. At Lavergne's spring game with WC you did not see the offence they will run. I-formation with waggles, traps and ISOs is about all you saw and they still beat WC. Did you know Coach Stevens was not even at spring practices but for 1 or 2 times? He was still teaching at Oak Ridge finishing his obligations there. He did however make the game being it was on a Sat. morning. Do you know how many starters did not play in that spring game? 4 of the 5 starting OL men, along with 2 of the receivers, the FB, 2 LB’s, 2 DBs and 2 DL men, were all in track or baseball. That’s a lot of starters not playing in the game and to still get a W. Sure they look a bit sloppy at times but I will say this. The Defense looked as fast as I’ve seen at Lavergne in some time and they seemed to play with a bit more pride and attitude then I’ve seen in some time. Sometimes with a team like Lavergne, that has good players, all it takes is a leader to bring a new attitude and approach and it could make all the difference in the world.
  15. New to the site but heard some cool things about it once the season starts up. I'd like to put in some picks for this topic: 1) Smyrna - fast and talented.....2 or 3 possible D1 players on this team. D will be stout and may see some wrinkles in the O this year. 2) LaVergne - OK start laughing at the new guy but I like the staff he has put together. Also, like some people have said they have talent. 3) Oakland - good coaching and good talented kids is a good receipt. 4) Blackmen - good D but it dose have some holes.......QB is a big (?)........RB is not.....wow he's good 5) Riverdale - QB ? and Wing T.......could be a tough one for the Warrior nation. Man I hate that offence 6) Siegel - New staff......could be a year or two away, who knows. Let the ripping begin.........looking forward to a great year of HS football in TN.
