  1. Good man teams utilize zone principles as well. Easier to play a gambling and extended zone with an eraser in the middle-most high school teams don't have that luxury every year.
  2. The dumbest guy in the room is often the one who fancies himself as the smartest. I can tell quite a bit about how a team is coached and how much defense is emphasized by watching this drill. Many would say that teams that rely solely on a zone do so bc it is easier to coach as well. CPA would be successful employing virtually any defense with their talent level.
  3. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year CPA posters/fans! You guys are a very sensitive bunch and quick to jump on the attack against those who disagree with you. Is it worth it? Btw- Kenwood is an excellent defensive team and has been for a few years now. You can clearly tell they are well coached just by watching them run through their shell drill during warmups. Stigal does an excellent job there.
  4. Cheatham sitting in good shape at the midway point after winning Watertown Xmas Tourney with relative ease. Now 11-0(3-0) with a big non-district test coming up next Saturday against Kenwood. Cheatham's big 3 has become a big 4 the last 5 games with the emergence of sophomore Austin Douglas, who has averaged about 17 ppg in the last 5. Only makes the Cubs even more dangerous. Really looking forward to the matchup with the Knights-should be a good one to watch!
  5. Cheatham County defeated Livingston Academy 72-59 in the 1st round. Good win today for the Cubs against a LA program that has a recent history of tremendous success. Easy to see why as they play hard and are well coached. Took the Cubs a while to adjust to the half court trap, but in the 3rd quarter they moved the ball well and got some easy baskets to build a lead that LA couldn't overcome. Harlan did a great job creating offense off the bounce, Saunders was scoring as usual, and Darden threw down a few slams to wow the locals, but the play of sophomore Austin Douglas is really encouraging for Cubs backers. He picked up 2 quick fouls early and sat for most of the 1st half, but exploded for 19 points in the 2nd half. The kid can play and has a bright future. Good luck to LA the rest of the year-looks like a pretty young bunch this year but they have some ability and should continue to improve. Cubs moved to 9-0 and get the winner of tonight's Gordonsville/Warren County game at 5:30 tomorrow night. Just saw that Meigs beat Dekalb today 64-59 in the 2nd boys game of the day.
  6. The feed from Saunders off the glass in traffic that Darden finished "with authority" last night was flat out nasty. He is averaging 3-4 dunks per game and some of them are very impressive. Look for him to get some more tonight vs Lipscomb in Ashland City.
  7. Hopefully we will get to find out on down the road Cougar. CPA are the champs and clear favorites, but I will guarantee you one thing though-Saunders, Darden, Harlan & company won't be scared if they meet up. The last time they left the court against CPA they were celebrating.
  8. Cheatham County went across the river to visit the Harpeth Indians tonight and came back home with a 73-63 victory. The Cubs jumped out to an early lead and thwarted a few Harpeth runs along the way, but the outcome of this one was never in doubt. Harpeth battled to the end and I give them a lot of credit for competing to the final buzzer. Saunders paced Cheatham with 21 tonight and Austin Douglas had an outstanding game as well with 15 points and solid all around play. Jordan Darden tossed in 14 and brought the noise with some monster slams that got the crowd enthused. Harlan added 11 despite fouling out with almost 6 minutes remaining. Cubs finally get to play another game in their own gym after 5 straight road victories when Lipscomb comes to Ashland City tomorrow. Cheatham now sits at 7-0 overall and 3-0 in 9aa though they have yet to host a district contest. They are very explosive and capable of beating anyone-CPA included. See you tomorrow night!
  9. Would also add the Cheatham County Cubs. Tennessean never gives the Cubs any pub though. They are 33-4 over the past 2 years now(6-0 this year) and have yet to receive even a snippet of coverage.
  10. Cheatham County will be returning to try and win this tourney for the 2nd year in a row. Looks like a good, competitive field this year.
  11. Cheatham County moved to 5-0 on the season after picking up a victory at West Creek by a 72-62 margin. Jordan Darden led the Cubs with 28 points, 12 boards, and 5 slams. Saunders poured in 26 and Harlan chipped in with 14. Cubs should get a pretty good test as they travel to Harpeth Tuesday. Heard Greenbrier pulled out a big win over Harpeth last Thursday. Any details from Goob or Indian fans?
  12. Cubs played a bit uninspired last night, but that doesn't come as a huge surprise off a 12 day lay off after the win over East. Having last Tuesday's game get postponed certainly didn't help them. Kudos to Westmoreland for competing though. Bottom line is the Cubs are 4-0(1-0) and won on the road by 13 last night despite not playing well. Hmmm. Darden had 24 and threw down a nasty slam as well. Cubs will be just fine. Step out of district play on the road against West Creek on Saturday and then travel to Harpeth next Tuesday. Should be a couple more good games.
  13. All good Cleggy. Cheatham vs Kenwood tonight has been postponed.
  14. Where did everybody go? That loss to LEAD Academy seems to have sent Cleggy away from the boards for a few days. Can't say that I blame you though Cleggy as that is a pretty embarrassing loss. After a couple of weeks there haven't been too many surprises in 9aa. Cheatham clearly top dog sitting at 3-0 against good competition. Cubs face another stern test Tuesday when Kenwood comes to Ashland City-should be a really good game. Harpeth seems like the only team that could challenge the Cubs as they are off to a good start against tough opponents as well. Greenbrier looks like they will be ok, but the rest of the district looks pretty weak so far. Any other big games for 9aa teams this week?
  15. Cheatham County went to East Nashville tonight and pulled out a tough 70-64 victory. It was a back and forth slugfest between two outstanding teams who will quite possibly face each other again in the postseason. The game was tied entering the 4th quarter, but the Cubs got enough stops and hit their free throws in the final minutes to come away with the win. Cheatham's starting five is scary when they are on the floor together. If there is a better big game player than Jake Saunders in middle Tennessee then I would sure like to see him. He had 29 tonight and has an uncanny ability to hit big shots when his team needs it. He is an absolute gamer and can score from anywhere against anyone. Wesley Harlan was huge tonight as well. He did a great job handling the ball against some excellent on the ball defense, knocked down a huge 3 and some free throws late in the 4th quarter, and contributed 17 points. Jordan Darden got in some foul trouble and had to sit for a couple of long stretches, but had 15 points, a couple of jams, and a giant basket with under a minute to play to put the Cubs up by 4. Michael Boyd did an outstanding job in limiting Terry Holt, one of the top players in the area, to 11 points tonight and also pitched in 6 points on the offensive end. Austin Douglas is a do-it-all kind of player who got some big rebounds and played tough defense tonight as well. East Nashville is an excellent team and they gave the Cubs fits on the glass all night. They really attack the basket off the dribble and are tough to defend. Coach Fey does a great job with them and they should have a lot of success this season. They will be a tough out come March. Great win for the Cubs tonight!
  16. Sounds pretty scary for the rest of 11aa the next 4 years. May have to try to make it over to Creekwood when Camden comes to town and check him out.
  17. Good win for the Indians. I have heard a lot of good things about their new coach and expect them to improve as the season progresses. Went to the Cheatham/Franklin game last night and must say that it was a little strange seeing Coach Wilson in a color other than Harpeth blue. Looks like a rebuilding job for now, but will ultimately be a good career move to go from the train wreck that is also known as Cheatham County Schools to Williamson County. Franklin has a lot of size, but is a bit lacking in the skill department this year. Franklin's program has been good more often than not though, and I expect Coach Wilson to have a great deal of success there over time. The game last night was sloppy to say the least. Didn't think either team played particularly well, but a 20 point win over Franklin is still nothing to sneeze at. I expect the Cubs to get a stiff test when they travel to East Nashville in a rematch of last year's substate game on Thursday night.
  18. Thanks for the info Beagle. Always liked Coach Trammel and wish him nothing but the best "up north." Hopefully Coach Roberts can build on the success the Lions have enjoyed since getting out of that west Tn district. Dawson got out of teaching/coaching altogether, but is still a big fan/supporter of Cubs basketball. If this young man is as good as you describe then the future should be very bright for the Lions. Best of luck to Camden this season.
  19. Cheatham beat Rossview tonight 94-66. Saunders had 38 and 7 3's. Darden had 15, 5 blocks and 3 dunks. Harlan had 17 and 7 assists. Cubs will be an exciting team to watch this year. Only bad part of the game was the refs. 30 fouls, 3 techs, and 2 fan ejections in the 1st quarter! Looked like the new college rules out there tonight.
  20. Darden can throw it down with the best of them. He is definitely worth the price of admission to watch and should have an outstanding senior year!
  21. I have seen Coach Mason do that before. My guess is he wanted to spread the floor and encourage Stratford to come out and pressure his guards to open up driving lanes. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Always thought he did a good job with the Bobcats though. Doubt if Maddux would take a job anywhere that the playing field was level and he didn't have an advantage over the competition before the games even started. He might have to actually coach then instead of just rolling out the balls! Unfortunate that he played a major role in breaking up what could have been a possible state tourney team in Greenbrier a couple of years ago. Not many people like Maddux, but I would imagine most Greenbrier supporters have a special place for him in their hearts!
  22. Matchups tonight for 9aa teams: Rossview @ Cheatham Waverly @ Harpeth Summit @ Sycamore Should be some good games tonight!
  23. Nice call Goob. You have any college football games you like tomorrow? With that type of prognostication ability maybe we can make some $$! Anyways, how did the Bobcats look last night?
  24. What happened to Coach Trammell? Thought he did a good job at Camden.
