  1. If you are dumb enough as a principal to not realize how much football and Coach Shad helps your school, then you will completely fail as a principal.
  2. Looks like Joslin is going to be the hire barring any last minute snags. Welcome coach to Cougar Nation!
  3. I would agree with this statement. Also, Overton has had several good teams. In 6A, it's tough to compete with the Maryville's and Murfreesboro Schools. It would take a really special team to win it in 6A. But, the others on any given year could compete, and possibly win one. Whites Creek hasn't had much success in anything lately. Football and basketball both have been in the dumpster. That school produced some serious football and basketball talent back in the day.
  4. Think Antioch will make a decent hire. If Stratford gets this guy, they could get things competitive. No idea what's going on at the Creek....it's a mess.
  5. They are conducting a 2nd round of interviews. They interviewed at least 8-10 initial applicants. Kurt Page, Jerry Joslin, and Dewayne Alexander, Jeff Morris, several local assistants were interviewed, along with OC out of Alabama. Alexander has pulled his name out of the running. Joslin has gotten a 2nd interview, and Morris and maybe the OC at Alabama are lined up. Page really wants the position, but not sure they are going to look at going that route. Hope to have a new coach in place by start of spring semester, unless it's someone with a current position that they can't leave. RP is not heavily involved in search, as BOD and Judd doing behind the scenes work. Lots of 7th and 8th grade parents are waiting on potential hire for football future of school. Cougar Nation is ready for their new leader on the gridiron!
  6. Heard today that 3-4 other candidates have been interviewed......hope to have someone in place at 1st of year.
  7. No question, I would hire Woodard back.
  8. The coach from out of state has interviewed.
  9. There are a good amount of candidates for this job. I do believe moving back to 3A was kind of a down point for certain candidates. Alexander would be a quality hire, but he is always applying for other jobs and I don't think he would be a long-term fit. 2 other names that I'd keep an eye on are the OC at CPA, I think his name is Haywood....and BGA assistant David Peden. I can not confirm or deny who is doing the hiring, but from sources RP and a couple of board members are in charge of search.
  10. Regardless on which side of the fence you are on the Martin situation, this was totally the case. Back to the candidates......Think admin is targeting a couple of names at this point from what I've heard, including Joslin, Dewayne Alexander, and a former midstate HC coaching in another state. Also, a couple of coaches still coaching in the playoffs as well.
  11. The whole program needs a complete overhaul. That is why this hire is critical. We can debate all day long whether Martin should have been let go or not, it's not going to change anything. That was the first mistake, and then hiring Mote was a disaster. Fact is that Coach Mote is a fine man, but is not a very good coach. It's not his fault he was hired, he should have never been hired in the 1st place. Watching the last 2 seasons has been a total disaster. From the organization to the workouts to the offense.......it's all been terrible. Losing to RBS was about as rock bottom as this program could go. I look forward to the new coach and the future of GCS football.
  12. Harp might want out after dealing with all of the distractions you have to deal with at Lebanon. Although they are probably going 0-10, I hope he can stay and get it turned around. Because if he can't do it, I'm not sure who could.
  13. Yes, unfortunately Lighthouse is dumped in with schools like Lancaster. I don't believe for a second that CPA nor BA are "scared" or think they would lose to Lighthouse, but we all have opinions. I'm not sure you will find many posters that would agree with any of your statements. Tyger averaged 26 ppg in the fall league.....and was the leading scorer of the league as an 8th grader. I think he will be fine. And if he "wasn't ready for the twins" - that's ok. He is 4 grades below them. Out of the top scorers in the fall league.....I think one of them was #26.
  14. The facts are the twins aren't the best backcourt in the state of Tennessee. Yes, Lighthouse has a good team, but there are 2 other players on the team that are key contributors as well. Most people that see anything about Lighthouse automatically write them off because they do not play in TSSAA, fair or not. The Nashville Central Christian team had a pretty good team last season. They beat Ensworth, but the same thing....no one cares because they don't play for anything. Lighthouse can probably beat a majority of the teams in the midstate, but CPA, BA, East Nashville and others would be able to handle them. I also doubt that Lighthouse could take on White Station or Memphis Hamilton.......not to mention Mitchell in A.
  15. But calling someone Mr. Ignorant because they have a difference of opinion is respectful.
  16. You call 2 - 5'10" guards at Lighthouse the "Best backcourt in Tennessee", but I need to find what I'm talking about? Let's just start with the best backcourt in Antioch, and go from there.
  17. Calling your twins the best backcourt in Tennessee, and then getting on a message board about it is a great idea. There are several backcourts in Nashville mentioned above that are better, and you haven't even included Memphis. Good luck to yours at Lighthouse and go get that state title in the TAACS or whatever they play in.
  18. Mr. Nappier, If your twins were that good, they wouldn't be at Lighthouse.
  19. Have heard GP is laying the groundwork, and identified a couple of candidates........
  20. Considering you keep posting in this thread......you apparently care.
  21. I don't know how many times I have to explain this.....but there is no recruiting going on at a school like Goodpasture. We don't have to recruit. Our coaches don't recruit. If they recruited, we would not be 0-10 in football in a weak 2A division. Are there schools in Division II that recruit....yes. Are we one of those schools....No. If we were recruiting, we are not very good at it because we just got beat by RBS. Everyone realizes we are in the public school division. Anyone that knows anything at Goodpasture knows that we do not offer financial aid at this point. Can that change? Yes. But, just like anywhere else in Division II-A, they are not "athletic scholarships".......and aren't signing a recruiting class. Again, around Madison, you have Whites Creek, Hunters Lane, Maplewood, East Nashville, etc. There are people out there that want a better situation that can afford it. You also have established programs like Beech and Hendersonville that are good situations. As I have posted, we have talent grades 5-8. We don't have to recruit anyone.....just keep the players we have already in the school and hire a competent coach. I have also posted we have no business in the public school league, and I'm sure the decision will be made next go round to go Division II. Everyone is sick of hearing the "poor public school" argument. Do you guys cry about Maryville, Alcoa, or the other open enrollment schools? Be careful what you wish for when there is a complete split. I promise you might not like it, especially if Division II leaves TSSAA altogether and starts their own governing body. Goodpasture had to play Alcoa several years, and I never once heard anyone complain about their recruiting, or it isn't fair.......
  22. Took a break from the boards after the RBS loss. And then obviously the news with Coach Mote hit. I do not think there was an advantage of letting him go before the season ended, but with the chances of going 0-10 at Goodpasture, it was probably in the best interest of both parties. I don't think it made a difference when it was announced, but coach probably knew after Friday night he was done either then, or in 3 more games. There are a variety of reasons that Mote was let go, and if you went any games then you could see why. I think what hurt Mote the most was that there was no pride left in the team. I mean you should be able line up and give the best player the ball 25 times to beat RBS. But Friday night was a deathblow. While RBS has improved over the last 5 years, they have been 1 of the top 3 worst programs in the state (if not the worst) for the past 30 years. We just flat out can't score. I do agree that this is a big hire for the Goodpasture football and overall athletic program. And as far as coaches applying, I think it's in the best interest of RP to identify top targets and reach out to them first....then go from there. I know the talent has been down, etc. but this is the same school in the past decade to have 2 NFL players and a MLB baseball player. The right home run hire could bring some influx of talent in along with a better overall football staff should pay some dividends. It will also help boys basketball and baseball as well. We don't need "good contacts" at local middle schools. We need a leader, and a competent football coach to compete with the other schools with our type demographics.
  23. I know the rule on re-classification. Just didn't know the year you can make the decision. I don't make the rules for the TSSAA and the public school division. I do not believe we are entitled to win 10 games per year. And quite honestly, while GP should get some wins, our regular season schedule out of conference is pretty competitive. I agree we have every available advantage, that is why production on the field matters. I'm not so much into the wins and losses as what I see on the field and in the program. Our weight program, our offense, and overall depth are a concern. GP had years of 50-60 players and the best athletes all played football. Again, we had 3-4 players last year in basketball that could have started and helped the team. Your points are well taken.....if we can't win those advantages then a change should be made.
  24. As posted....the talent is down. However, not down enough to lose to FRA the last 2 seasons, and get beat by a Trousdale team that didn't have their Mr. Football candidate who had gotten mercy-ruled by FCS the week before. I can yell what the opposing team is going to do this season, and we haven't stopped anyone. Furthermore, we can't score.
