  1. For the poster who said the coach has the option of playing the game under protest..not in TN nor in most states per NF rules. Decision must be reached before the next legal pitch.
  2. We always knew what to expect when Memphis officials came to our district/region/substate games.....the best of the worst.**LMAO**
  3. Blisters can be caused by her feet not fitting into the shoe properly as well as the shoe not fitting her foot. Socks can also be a problem; I remember reading in one of John Wooden's books that he had his Bruins wear 2 pairs and the inside pair was worn inside out to prevent some abrasions. Ingrown nails are not the fault of the shoe, I would think. Mine were so common that I finally just had the nails totally removed from big toes and the nail bed killed. That stopped the problem for me; it did cost almost $500 but insurance covered most of that for me. I wish your daughter the best in her search for the perfect fit.
  4. And if neither team scores in a 3 inning game? Cut blue's fees in half?? Not if I'm calling.**LOL**
  5. As a former umpire let me interject my thoughts, please? Even if the umpires did NOT signal or verbalize the call, it is the players' and coaches' responsibility to know the situation. Yes; the call should have been made IF the blues were going to change their call later, perhaps. However, as it stands, let us say they made the "right call"; the batter was out and the runners advanced at their own risk, therefore the force play was not in effect as the batter was deemed out. Soft liners and bloopers are usually not called as infield flies as neither are bunted balls. Also, let me now say that even though I said bloopers and soft liners are usually not called, it is totally almost the umpires' discretion; especially when trying to determine if the ball could have 'routinely" caught by a fielder. Apologies for the long-winded dissertation.
  6. I was locked out of my account and was given the generic password; I cant seem to find the tab option to go in and make my username specific password now. Can anyone offer assistance, please?
  7. Mr. Bertier, I fully understand and hopefully you do not see me as having a constant chip on my shoulder. I have officiated HS baseball since 1978 and hopefully can continue to do so for another 3 years. The comment made about our inferior abilities just set me off; I do apologize to you and any others offended, altho not to the original poster.Just to back my statement about not having a chip on my shoulder, my last coach ejection was somewhere back in the mid-90's as was my last player ejection.I love this sport and I just hated to see my fellow "blues" being given a bad rap from someone who may neither have ever coached/officiated. I agree whole-heartedly that the best officials are the ones you never realized were on the field."Play Ball"!!
  8. Sir, the coaches do not get raises from TSSAA; their school handles salaries. May I also suggest that you strap on a pair of shinguards, a chest protector, plate shoes, a mask, and put an indicator in your hand before judging the work we do-most because we love the game from having played in HS/college and desire to give baCk to the game we so love. If you prefer to not do that, you are welcome to attend a game and watch my crew as we perform to the best of our "less than stringent qualifications" and I will be most happy to show you the way to the parking lot after we eject your sorry butt for disrespecting my partners and/or me. "YOU ARE OUTTA HERE"!!AS POINTING TO THE NEAREST EXIT AND/OR PARKING LOT FOR YOUR TIMELY DEPARTURE!!
  9. Glad you seem interested. Go to www.tssaa.org and click on the "Officials" link or simply call TSSAA and they will send you the required info. You must be 18 yrs of age, and I believe no criminal record(felonies), also there was once a requirement that a coach/administrator/another TSSAA official had to "recommend" the new applicant, not certain if all those are still required or not. You can also contact any HS coach and have them give you the name of the person who assigns the umpires for their games to get you started. GOOD LUCK!!
  10. I have to wonder at the TSSAA'a higher-ups rationale for leaving the single-game fee at $65 though. Any word as to how/why that decision was reached? Makes me wonder now if we can expect to see a decline in DHeaders? And a time-limit/inning restriction on JV games?
  11. The catcher, by rule, cannot "block" the plate without the ball. If the throw is even on the way to the plate, the catcher must have possession of the ball in order to even make an attempt at blocking the runner; so, in actuality, the catcher was guilty of obstruction, the runner was guilty of malicious contact. Testy situation at best for the umpires because the runner could have been allowed to score his run for the obstruction call and then been ejected from the game for the malicious contact OR the runner is merely called out AND ejected. The umpires apparently did all they could; I see the fieldd umpire backing away in the video; he should have been writing ##'s down for later ejections, altho his pen probably would have run out of ink first.
  12. As an umpire, I want to thank you for your remarks. An umpire should be prepared for whatever level of pitching we see in these games, however. I wasn't trying to bash my fellow blues..just wondering what association had this game.
  13. The only restriction on pitching I have ever seen and read about in TSSAA is that a pitcher can pitch only 10 innings on consecutive days. Correct me if I am incorrect as I remember McGavock losing a State Championship due to this rule?
  14. Being an umpire myself, I feel for the "dish man" being there for 18 innings-definitely earned his $55 + mileage.**LOL**
  15. Great pitching usually stops good hitters. Any idea where the umpiring crew was from? Which association, I mean?
