  1. Bradley had most of the tools in the right places. Standifer really strengthens the receiving corps. Makes it much harder to concentrate on Tucker and Mahoney. But that 87 yard TD play to Tucker was a thing of beauty. The run game needed to be better, but did enough to make the Cavs watch it, and not go one dimensional on defense. Kudos to the OL for keeping Cole clean. Really needed that last night. Pressure on him was limited to a large extent, with only one instance of contact on a pass play. Credit the defense for getting the two stops when absolutely necessary. They played OK for the most part but really stepped it up in the 4th.
  2. Well there has been good reason for the hype over the years. But it will never last forever.
  3. Yes, good night for region 1. Looks like, as a group, Region 1 has closed the gap. But let's see what round 2 brings. Oakland and Maryville still look to be in a different class.
  4. Yeah, what I am hearing is a great desire for this rematch from the WV kids.
  5. You know, I got hammered pretty hard about my comments WV was the better team over McMinn County. Wonder what they think now?
  6. Played at Sweetwater, then coached at Cleveland, before marrying former Bearette Paige Redman they moved to Oakland Ridge and took the jobs ther.e
  7. Congrats to Walker Valley. That was a nice win for them.
  8. That was a nailbiter at the end. But 411 yards for Cole Copeland pass on a 30 of 37 passing night./ Cookeville is a really good team.
  9. Yeah there is a 10 on the field and warming up.
  10. shhhhhhhhhhh Heard some interesting things myself. Soon to find out.
  11. I know a lot of people were concerned when we moved to the Super 32. IT was going to be tough step up in the quality of teams we would face. The thing is I never was that worried about the competition, but the travel. Good competition makes coaches, players, teams and even the support structure to step up. And this two year experiment has made our Bears a better team I really think. I am probably one of the few, though, that really prefers that the TSSAA, when they announce regions in the next few weeks puts the Blount County teams in with us. While most consider the teams from Knox County, Hardin Valley, Farragut, and Bearden, to be as group tougher, I would prefer to play Maryville. Some would say that's crazy to get your team beat that badly every year, but I take the tack that playing the BEST, will only make you better, and maybe better than the rest as well. Besides, I Iike playing them.
  12. That could lead to a high scoring game, with the way WV can score. Sounds like there may be a lot of points scored Friday Night.
  13. I made my comments based on what I know about the team and what has happened all year. Walker Valley is very talented, (and yes, more talented then McMinn; McMinn played better with no errors) but stand in their own way with mistakes. McMinn County took advantage of the turnovers to gain possession and run their offense, which they did very well. Against Bradley, Walker Valley made 3 major mistakes (none forced, 2 fumbles, and a snap over the punters head) that gave the Bears short field and easy scores to build a good lead to maintain. But they racked up a lot yards and scored quite a bit against us in the 2nd half. When they are on and don't screw up, Walker Valley is a dangerous team.
  14. Learned long ago, the best way to defend the Wing T offense. Tackle everyone in the backfield every play.
  15. Nope, I gave an honest appraisal of skill and talent, and what the weakness was.
  16. Now that I agree with. Too many classifications, for our state. Even if you do the public/private split, which is an entirely separate discussion. And especially too many public divisions if you force the privates out completely. 5 is more than enough for public now. And probably could do it fine with 4.
  17. I don't count the years before playing Bradley.
  18. I would rank WV as better. McMinn County won because WV turned the ball over 4 times in the red zone. If WV scores on those drives, they lead by 35 and win going away. WV has really good players, but have not shown the discipline and tends to make mistakes at crucial times. That has really cost them this year. If they don't make mistakes, that can beat most anyone they play.
  19. 11 years for Walker Valley. Was Charleston High before. Had a few good teams back then in 1A.
  20. Funny how we meet Cookeville when we have a Copeland and he is injured. In 2011 they got us when Bryce broke his arm,and now with Cole questionable at best. But this year, I think we have the backup to take the reigns and go. We almost come back in 2011 with our backup once we settled in on him. At least we get to play here on a good field where the lines are straight lol.
  21. Well you are a bit off there. 41,000 population for Cleveland City. roughly 100,000 county wide. Cleveland High is the only city School System high school. Bradley Central and Walker Valley (which replaced Charleston High, a small single A school back 11 years ago) are county schools. Walker Valley is on the very northern part of the county off the first exit after crossing the Hiwassee River going south.
