  10. same to you! we really like it there...will probably join pretty soon.
  11. Sorry, wasn't convinced... You can't make an accusation like you made and expect people to believe you without serious proof. In my opinion, Alcoa and Maryville's programs sell themselves...HANDS DOWN! These coaches shouldn't have to make any phone calls. I'd say they're on the RECEIVING end of a bunch of calls though...of parents wanting their kids to play for them!
  12. Nice!! We've got to get these guys for the bowl game! I may have to get behind mommaSTARS too (or mommaDAWG!)...I'm thinking one of these guys is missing an eye or a body part by now!
  13. I think folks would be interested in hearing the details about Alcoa's recruitment of your cousin from Georgia...please elaborate.
  14. ...something tells me that you are correct my friend!
  15. I agree. I'm proud of the kids for putting in the time and sacrifice to play ball, it's just a shame they don't have better examples on and off the field.
  16. You should have taken your own advice when you were posting all that garbage leading up the championship game! I'm sure there were more than a few Smyrna fans who were embarrassed by your ramblings. You stick to preaching to your folks, and we'll stick to taking care of ours.
  17. Very proud of you Mr. Coleman...you represented the Purple Pride well! Congrats on a fine career and am so glad to see you join a great group of TN kids in Milan's Avery Williamson and Alcoa's Randall Cobb and Tyler Robinson at UK. I look forward to seeing you play for many years to come!
  18. open zones for all...i'm a believer!!!! no multiplier, but tuition should be equal what the system would otherwise receive for an in-zone student from that city (property tax revenue, etc.), as long as the student resides in the same county. if out of the county students were allowed, should be equivalent to what would be received from that system's city AND county gov't.
  19. A couple of thoughts here...being that I'm a recent transplant from Milan, now living in Maryville... I agree with you about the talent and feeder system in Blount county...it is terrific. In my opinion, probably as much a contributor to these programs' success as anything else that is argued on here. I also agree that Alcoa does not get all the talent, Maryville gets its fair share as well. And, it does seem that the talent pool is within Blount county...at least what I've seen or heard about so far. Big difference in tuition amount though, as shown below. It is nice that a family can pay tuition and choose to go to school at Alcoa or Maryville, if that family feels it is best for their child. That is how it used to be in Milan...but no more, thanks to Humboldt. Do I feel that Milan and Alcoa/Maryville's out-of-district policy is the same or equal? No. I feel that Milan's is much more restrictive from an admissions standpoint, as it requires the cooperation and permission of a competing district before admission is granted to Milan schools. How frequently does this happen, I do not know. Also, one must consider why these districts would be motivated to grant such permission, as you are taking money out of their pocket for each student that is not enrolled in their system. If permission is granted, having no tuition (Milan) is an obvious advantage over a school that has $500 (Alcoa) or $2200 (Maryville) tuition. Whether or not Milan pulls all the best high school players from Gibson county must be answered by someone who knows. I cannot answer this question. I can only speak to the kids (middle school age) that played with my son while we were there. He played (plays) football, baseball and basketball, so we were exposed to quite a few kids and their parents. Our experience was that these kids were from Milan, not other areas. Others who have kids that might go to school with those that were grandfathered-in prior to 2004 may have a different experience. Is having a less-restrictive transfer policy / tuition option an advantage over those schools that don't have it? How can it not be?
  20. Ok, it's been 48 hours since you got another gold ball...enough celebrating already! What's the scoop on the team for next year? How many starters will you lose on offense / defense and in what positions... What does the upcoming talent look like? (...middle school, freshmen, JV...what were these teams' records, stand-out players?) Congrats on another successful season!
  21. Real games...link to article: knoxville news-sentinel article Who were the schools that declined? MBA, Ensworth, others?
  22. ditto. i've only seen alcoa play 3 times...twice against milan the last 2 yrs and once against maryville in week 1. i must say, they look like a machine this year, even better than the last 2 years...IMO. They are big, strong, fast, experienced and well-coached. GP will have their hands full, and then some...
  23. This was on Murphy Fair tonight re: the Meadows injury: defensive star Deon Meadows, out for the season with a hand injury. Meadows took the injury in stride but was a great emotional leader for the team from the sidelines. Is this true? Also.... how many returning starters do you have from last years team....# of offense / # on defense.... # that are senior starters?
  24. Same to you guys! That is a great Alcoa team you've got this year!
