  1. High is a heck of a QB and will/should be great somewhere....Im not going to put him above Bray just yet though. Maybe beside Worley!
  2. Wall has size and arm strength, but needs to work on his mechanics and decision making. Too many times he double clutched (not pump faking) second guessing himself before he threw the ball. Ive got my own personal feelings on the QB situation but that's neither here nor there.
  3. maybe they dont have a good running game
  4. As long as GQ and staff are strolling that sidelines, they're always top contenders in my book!
  5. Are we making predictions? CAK #1, Alcoa #2 then comes everyone else. With that said, CAK takes the title again next year. Yea, I said it!
  6. Thats understandable but trust me...get use to it. If you win, you're automatically assumed to be a cheater. Its not going to go away any time soon.
  7. You have the choice to play QB for a team that went 7-5, going 2 and BBQ in the playoffs or playing for a team that had one of the top 3 active winning streaks in the Nation and a 7 Straight defending State Champion....Which would you choose? Its not a knock on AE or any other school. Alcoa (as well as Maryville) have put their names on a map to the point where kids WANT to play for them.
  8. The "recruiting thing" has really ran its course...Actually its ran its course 8 years ago. We (Alcoa and Maryville fans) are still waiting for your PROOF that we recruit. Not "Oh my Uncle Tom Bob son Billy Joe from Milan said his Aunt Billie Jean lil Cousin Ralphus told him Alcoa was recruiting." SHOW ME PROOF Then we get to whine about Open Enrollment....So...Why were you all not whining about it in the 70s, 80s and 90s? Hmmm?? Guess what, we were open enrollment schools then. Actually, list me ALL of the OZ players both teams have/had...I can promise I can list you 3-4 that arnt for every one of yours. Again, please please list all the proof you have....Again, just like 10 years from now when you're still whining...We'll be waiting for answers.
  9. 2002 for Alcoa, 1996 for Maryville Like I said above 26 State Titles > 29 Consecutive Playoff Appearances.
  10. Kinda funny, those of us that were saying he couldnt run his smash mouth offense and win this year are patting ourselves on the back as CAK take home our State Championship this year.....WITH a West Coast Offense (which in a previous post is something I said I wanted to see).....So.....
  11. Ill take the 26 Gold balls those 3 teams hold over a yearly playoff streak ANY day. Playoffs dont mean crap if you dont win it all. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME! [/HermEdwards]
  12. Look at it how you want but as Ive been saying all year long, this Alcoa team isnt the same caliber as the previous years. Its not necessarily a bad thing against them, its just Alcoa was just THAT good in previous years. Yes 37 points should win you a ball game. How many times this year did Alcoa score not just 37 points but just say 21 points and didnt win? 7 @ AE. 14 @ Greeneville, 14 @ CAK and then 37 @ CAK. Its not like the offense put up lots of points in those losses either. You win as a team and you lose as a team.
  13. Alcoa has also come accustom to not having a coach hang around for very long too. You gotta remember that. We went from Coach Dalton to Coach Phelps to Coach Ironside to Coach Meadows back to Coach Dalton to Coach Reid to Coach Rankin in a span of about 15 years. To a lot of schools that not much but when you consider Alcoa has racked up 9 state titles under those coaches...Its quite a feat. Most schools struggle after coaching changes. There's also a lot of alumni and former players that dont feel they should be committed to the staff at the moment because it wasnt "their" staff. I myself am guilty of it among many others. The only ties I have to the current staff is Coach Adams, none of the others were there 10 years ago so part of you says "Eh, if they go they go...we'll be fine"...At the same time I really think/wish Alcoa would find a "hometown" type guy that doesnt have a high probability to just up and run off to Georgia or a Private School. We havent had an "Alcoa guy" since Coach Phelps. I think thats one reason so many people are supportive with the possibility of Coach Nix taking over if/when the time comes. Nix, as far as I know, is a local guy and loves the area. Plus the intensity he shows on the sidelines is second to none. Seriously, I know a lot of people cant see it from the visitors side of the field but if you're ever on the home side you know what Im talking about. Coach Dalton, God rest his soul, said it best in 2001 that Alcoa needs stability at the head coaching position. 10 years later we're still needing it. If its Rankin then so be it, it its Nix thats fine too but we need someone there thats going to be there 10-15 years later and continue to improve the program. Just my opinion....I feel like Paul Harvey. Yes, he's been the DC since I believe Reid was coach. As for who would call the offense...Personally Id like to see Coach Henry stay behind and be an Offense Coord. He usually does the calls in the JV/Freshmen games and as a very balanced offensive mind. However, Henry is also a "Rankin guy" and I would imagine if/when Rankin does leave that Henry would probably follow him.
  14. Ive heard different rumors about Rankin leaving but nothing official. However I think most Alcoa people know, unless the higher ups pull the rug from under him, Coach Nix is the next head coach whenever Rankin leaves.
  15. I just dont see the point in having a "homer" attitude in sports. 90% of the time when you've got that attitude nobody wants to discuss sports with you and the ones that do wont take you remotely serious. It doesnt make you a bad fan or any less of a fan to be objective. Ive been a 49ers fan for 20+ years, I love the team but even though we're 9-2 Im not going to sit here and tell you we're the best team in the NFL and we're going to win the Super Bowl and nobody can stop us. Thats silly! We've clearly got a lot of problems on the team to improve on. Positive up beat happy attitudes aren't always the answer in life. Sometimes you need to be told "you suck" to make every thing click so you and improve. Not to mention, "Homers" end up eating a lot of crow....I myself am a Chicken fan!
  16. Everyone has a chance....Im not going to put money on it though.
  17. Im not saying we're going to be terrible and back to a 3-7/6-6 type season. I dont know what the schedule looks like but if its anything like this years Id chalk a loss up to Maryville, 50/50 on Greeneville (I think they lose a bit) and probably CAK. Webb (I assume we play them in the opener) isnt going to be easy either. Ill say the same thing for next year that I said at the start of this year. we very well could be a 5-5 state championship team.
  18. Keep looking....many coaches/schools from different levels have looked to get GQ and he refuses to leave. Im convinced there is only 2 ways he'll ever leave Maryville... 1)Retirement 2)Death Maryville...and sadly the rest of their opponents...are "stuck" with GQ!
  19. Its not a downgrade. Ive seen Austin East play at least twice this year and they have the same problems...Penalties cost them...its not even "football" penalties...Its dumb mental mistakes that cost teams. The scary thing is this AE team could have been a lot better then what they were if they limited their mistakes.
  20. Sounds like vintage AE....Have the athletes but not the discipline....I think I heard 12-13 penalties in the game *smh*
  21. Its a good way to catch a cramp. I know its out of respect but Id never take a knee personally.
  22. Because Rankin can retire from public schooling and go into private school coaching and double dip his income. Basically pull twice the money. Plus, its not going to be easy for Alcoa from here on out. The days of Lindsey, Warren(s) and Tysons are behind us.
  23. We only had one injury that cost us any significant time in Koko...Everyone else for the most part was healthy with minor dings here and there. 99.9% healthy vs CAK and Maryville and Greeneville both had their ways with our defense.
  24. Heard some grumblings about a new private school opening up somewhere in Middle Tn that he might be interested in/candidate for.....Who knows. Personally I just hope we keep Coach Nix and can find a way to keep Coach Henry as well.
