  1. Pardon my french, but this was a darn good game. Baylor deserved the win; we were just a little shy on depth and a couple of fumble recoveries. I am proud of the Spartans. They did well. If you were at the game, was it not the longest 48 minutes of your life???
  2. My error. I picked up the wrong game. It was Howard Tech (#233). And great news for Soddy Daisy. RebelRon, you guys are a force to be reckoned. Awesome team, great coaching. Good luck the rest of the season and get back what belongs to you!!
  3. Agree totally with O. On a side note, it would be interesting to see the Sonny Moore algorithm. Wonder how they will rate the teams post Week 0 and the respecitve narrowing/widening of the spread between Webb and Baylor? Sure a loss is killer regardless of the Rebels #2 preseason ranking, but a win over #181 ranked Soddy Daisy cant be that helpful.
  4. I'm loving the optimism Big. Back in the "old days" (read that as pre DII), Baylor was great contest. I have a lot of respect. Will be interested to see how Spartans will prepare this week after last night's loss.
  5. I agree with the craziness of it all. Crazy in a funny way, but crazy nonetheless. But maybe the end game is not the NFL or the BCS, but just to get their child into college. Plenty of colleges will take their child if they are smart enough to endure the classroom and tough enough to endure the field/court. It's a viable tactic for the "getting into State U" strategery.
  6. If I lived in Nashville I wish I was Ensworth too.
  7. Funny thing. I spoke about Friendship just last night. And I said "Dont get ahead of yourself [Dad], we have to be smart and play our best ball against Friendship. They have a great program". Everyone around me agreed. The Spartans have some pretty good talent returning this year. Hopefully we can be competitive and have a good game against y'all.
  8. An excellent observation. As previously mentioned, Webb does play Maryville and Baylor. We also play non-regional Catholic and CAK (local, larger private schools that would be in our division if they had teh budgets to meet the travel requirements of DII. ) The playoffs have teams that are very, very much like Webb in numbers, size and mission. ECS. USJ. St. Georges. Great teams with winning traditions. Hopefully we can get a chance to be back in the mix.
  9. Ensworth is the best football program in the state. Period. One of the top programs in the nation. Period. They are bigger. They have more depth. They work hard, its what they wanted and they got it.What is there to contest? Nothing. But I wouldn't want to be anything but a Spartan.....
  10. Focusing solely on the Webb game, it is ill advised to take them lightly. They are a force for sure.
  11. In my heavily biased opinion, the best coach is David Meske. For all the reasons you noted plus he is dealing with a much smaller pool of athletes (Nashville vs Knoxville) that must be able to continually cut the academic mustard at Webb where you have the more typical student athlete (as oppose to athletic student). He has left an indeliable mark spanning over 25 years and postively affected that communuity for two generations.
  12. Pretty sure it was Rockwood.
  13. Only two varsity games for Webb. He played as a freshmen at his former school. He had to sit out the majority of last season since he transferred in. Great kid. Very, very bright.
  14. I am sure the team looks forward to playing Friendship Christian. What a load of hardware you have in your trophy cases! But from what I can see you have your gamers, too! And yes, Todd is a fine boy with a great future at hand. He is "Very Spartan". Our issue has been depth-- we dont have any. And after Maryville, Baylor and CAK, we may be pretty banged up. Looking forward to your visit to Spartanburg this fall. If you want to see a fine former Spartan, go to Cumberland and see Caleb Blance. Great guy.
  15. Red, I agree. It just sux to be us.
  16. Webb had only five seniors. One of whom did not play due to previous injuries. We will need to identify another huge linemen, a speedy running back and a spirited quarterback. If you look at our roster from last year we will need some of the younger underclassmen to step it up this season. And it would be nice if we could ease our way into the season, but the Rebels won't let that happen....: ) Interesting post on Jones and Catholic. Do I need to round up my "Catholics for Webb" friends? They show in mass (no pun) for the Webb v Catholic game.
  17. I know zip about Bishop Byrne but am interested to see with combining it with Memphis Catholic if they will b able to assemble a football team? Did BB play on their home field?
  18. Here is the DIIA E/M All Region Team. What is interesting is the difference between how the sports wrtiters voted (All State) and how the coaches voted (All Region).
  19. Click here to read it in the Commercial Appeal. Lots of Spartans on this year's list. The vast majority to them are juniors and sophomores.
  20. How many attened that game over the last two years? 12,000+ ?
  21. Agreed. Recent moves in D2A will improve the whole division. would be great if we could bring in some of the other privates who play D1 into the fold.
  22. I've seen a couple. Mundane comes to my mind first. Same agenda, same drills, over and over and over.
  23. BGA is next year. I think they are a region game (have not seen how they are split next year). Dont know anything about Friendship, but hope for a great game.
