  1. Ok so lets talk about yesterdays outcome... Surprise - Hudgins getting caught by surprise early, the kid who beat him had a good tourney tho and gave Hurley a serious run in the finals. 126 place 1-3 has quality! A little surprised Nyguen at 182 - solid hard worker deserving of the win. Not to surprised - Spangler at 170 hard worker but just got soundly thrashed by English in semis. Deans pin of English was at best a roll through very quick pin but he had the take down so good job. Business as usual Begley and Broyles - a sad mess at the end of that match... No surprise Vaughn, Bagley 145, Bagley 195, and Frye.
  2. I will tell you driving the boys all over to tourneys during aau and making sure we drove to Nashville and Chattanooga to wrestle a few times a year made a difference with my boys. I also think the influence of UTC and MTSU helps drive wrestling in those regional areas of course, just like it did in my past. Good college wrestling that is visible makes a difference in influencing kids, and taking kids to matches early on makes a huge difference as well.
  3. i agree with you completely on this Baller!
  4. ok fellas easy there. No doubt Greeneville and SE had an impact and 2 seymour kids I have seen would have been 2 or 3 seeds likely. the truth is the split hurt all some and gave a bunch more kids medal opportunities, my choice that doesnt matter, is i wish regionals and state were not watered down a bit like they have been but not going to change...
  5. Hopeful they beat Maryville getting past next match would take some doing, win 2 or 3 matches total and good success, proud of them either way!
  6. I know no one may think the Hill has much chance in the matchups at state, I however am hopeful and think they match-up well with Maryville by weights. Of course I am especially looking forward to 195 as no one seems to give much of a chance - but never underestimate will to win and desire to step up against a challenge in some people, you never know. I have looked at the matchups with second dual either Cookeville or Ravenwood and unless the wrestling is just that much better on the west (which it may be) there are some matchup situations as well that could lead to a close match or a win. We have some pinners that can collect bonus points and scramblers that if they don't win are likely to only drop 3 pointers... A little self belief is good medicine.
  7. Talked with Storm briefly missed weight at the regional duals by ounces said was the only thing that kept him out of the regional dual, I am hopeful he will be fine during individuals - nice kid. So Newcoach did you make it to the reg. duals, was a pretty exciting match up between DB and Jeff. Was impressed with Jefferson county effort to get to state. The Hill was really good in the finals but all the matches were competitive. Glad I made the trip enjoyed it very much!
  8. Saw the match from start to end. I think what we have here was simply got caught out of position situation - yes have seen English look pretty good the times I have seen him this year except one match at a tourney that he really didn't look like he was there, but although improved overall against Begley, I think it is a 1 in 5 type proposition. All kids have moments where they can loose focus or get caught no matter how good they are. Congrats to Jeff County making it to state however, they really had great focus and effort across the board that night and even though they got beat pretty good by the Hill they were very competitive every match and showed tremendous heart. Hard working team!
  9. Sci hill 40 -27 over DB. 152 Austin Frye did great job takedown at will... 145 Austin Bagley and Jeffers 2-0 Austin won - never a spot of trouble Jeffers wrestled the entire match with hands clinched under his belly to not get turned. Jeffers did ride well for his top period in the 3rd, but never in doubt or close to an offensive move. Begley DB got a forfeit at 170, Williams SH at 106 got a forfeit, Bagley 195 pinned his kid in first, the 182 match ended up close due to conditioning DB held on to win that narrow decision. Ref stopped match heading into 3rd for injury time cause DB - called for injury time as he was dead exhausted and said he needed to throw up, not faulting anyone but have not seen a stoppage for that reason ever before. Got plenty of water and time standing over the can - could be he has the flu or something maybe, no ill will I hope he feels better sincerely. The rest of the matches went as expected no surprises
  10. Begley is DB and he is having an excellent year, I also like Frye at DB he is a tough kid with good length and skills, the Bagley boys are at the Hill and are both having tremendous seasons at 145 and 195 either can beat anyone on any given day and Austin has not been beat in Tennessee this year and only beat himself in a very few tough matches but one, Gary Hutchens is really putting it together at 126 and looks comfortable and aggressive at his weight, Max Vaughn still recovering from surgery but he should peak at the right time. Still some real good youth at the Hill as well for a sustained run and the Admiral Wrestling Club with Coach Frye is bringing them up well as seen at aau tourneys around Tennessee. The Hill wrestles tough teams and tourneys out of state often and early season and this year seems not as many kids cutting hard so they should still have something in the tank at the end in my bias opinion. Nice to see the east mentioned by someone Sommers..
  11. I love wrestling and love it even more for the intangibles it builds that lead to increased success in other sports and life lessons such as self control, self reliance, self responsibility etc... I think the balance, footwork, and work ethic of a wrestler translates to a superior athlete AND a better person in general during the trials of life!
  12. that was the best roundup of a tournament I've seen thanx much Newcoach!
  13. How is everyone did you go to the Indian tourney Newcoach215? Looked like some good wrestlers came in by looking at the team list.
  14. Humor - hope we see some of these guys tomrrow at Waage takedown tourney, good a matchup list as any I am glad you had some Seymour guys on there I keep forgetting about them cause I never see them, thanx for the reminder. I am sure a few weights are gonna get tweaked but these lists help remind me who to keep an eye open for...
  15. btw if anyone wondered I am Marshall Bagley , may help understand my blind allegiance to those Bagley boys, also at times I have tweaked and pissed off some bloggers and don't want to be anonymous in commenting thanx - Feels like I just stepped up in a AA meeting - whew...
  16. I think as Kingreene said I was way off on some of where kids will be at weight classes. and that will shake these up a quite a bit. Dewey is a great kids he was younger then my boys but was at the aau scene when they both were there albeit at younger age group, he was raw but level headed when young and worked hard at VWC and king when he was the youngest guy in the room, just forgot he entered High school this year. Bright future! Tim has done a great job preparing these guys! See you all next week at takedown tourney I hope.
  17. I do agree Tennessee high probably has done the best feeding the program over the last few years - they are right up there with the Hill and DB, could even be in a position to win region if not this year next. Congrats to those hard working dedicated young men!
  18. the inside scoop is my boy Hunter will be at 195 and I hope he stays there - he is strong enough and very physical with natural feel that most big guys will struggle against. Costa Kalagros is a scrapper can turn it on and battle anybody just not there on skills yet and still in football, He will win a lot of matches and if he puts some technique together could make finals don't know what he weighs this year but I would guess around 170. Storm Williams is a name I hear on here often I just never see him (my bad) Plug him in of course - there is room for two in each final and anything can happen when kids start believing for the better and worse as I observed last year during regional semi finals... I don't know anything about Elizabethton since Callahan graduated. Agree Vance will be very good of course just don't know where he weighs in. Also I am not sure where Palmer is just heard some speculate 182. No slight to any young man here its just one guys opinion with a limited knowledge on who is where and based only on kids I have seen wrestle. feel free to put your list together - that is how we can learn about other kids in our area to watch as fans of the finest test in sport!
  19. Not knowing all or even sure what realigment did for region one big school teams here is my thought on region one big school individulas, please feel free to fill in or disagree, and of course not positive on wts. these picks would at least in my opnion be in finals 106 ? 113 ? for small school my choice would be Brockwell SS 120 small school would of course be Boatman GR Lock, big school Lane SH 126 Big school Gary Hudgins SH - Lock 132 Big school Max Vaughn SH - Lock 138 Big school Corbin Hurley Br 145 Big school Bagley SH - Lock - yeah I know what did you expect - but I am right ... 152 Big school Frye likely or Broyles? 160 Not sure who is here Dean DB maybe, could be Rolston SH 170 Not sure who is really at the top again could be Deans wt. 182 - Begley DB - Lock, fight for second between Hardin and Spangler toughest wt class this year in this area 195 - Bagley SH Dont be surprised - yeah I know what did you expect ... 220 - dont know who is here hwt - dont know who is here Yes these are my honest "unbiased" best guess assessments Your turn!
  20. proud of the guys who entered and tried! No doubt I see first hand that it woke one guy up and technically he was good enough to compete but learned he wasnt strong enough and needs to work much harder, I see a new sense of where he is at in his eyes and a willigness and desire to improve on the things he learned first hand. great tourney win or lose!
  21. Worried ? Lord no...! I am guessing the Hill welcomes the competition - a rising tide floats all boats anyway. Personally think the Hill is in real good shape this year - with excellent leadership and some very strong and determined wrestlers.
  22. Newcoach - Dont worry speaking for myself I am never offended here, I just like the banter and to have a little fun with my wrestling following friends, yes sometimes I have an opinion too and throw it out there, if people dont like it - I like you at least hope they are not (to) offended by it as well.
  23. Dang where is my like button, oh yeah oops...
  24. Actually those are nice kids - are you all sure you wanted to do this to them? Yeah I had too... Happy Fall Friends!
