  1. I will agree that Gerald can be out of control from time to time, but he has been brought up under Doc Shelton to be a player who slashes to the basket, and I think that both of the charge calls against him late in the 3rd and early in the 4th could have gone either way. BIG BEN
  2. Hats off to DLHS for a well played game. Robinson fouled out with about 5 min. left to go in the game. Foul trouble has pleagued him in the games I have been to, The kid is the best all around player in the district hands down. If you go just by shooting, you could prolly toss it up with Josh Slater, but as far as speed, defense, rebounding, and team leadership is concerned, Gerald is your man. This tight distrcit race will go down to the wire. Where is the district tourney this year? Anyone know? BIG BEN
  3. I love the new college site, but how about a little love for the Lipscomb Bisons on the homepage... I mean you have belmont but not LU? C'mon now Coach-T! BIG BEN
  4. Great game tonight for the Royals... Eventhough the entire game looked really sloppy on both sides. Win could have been alot bigger with MLK holding the ball and playing keep away for most of the second half. Gerald Robinson comes out and puts on a clinic scoring 22 of the 49 points for MLK, show he is clearly the top gaurd in the district (over Josh Slater -- 10 points) and probably even the best in middle Tennessee. Clarence Smith had yet another solid performance pulling down a handful of reboounds and scoring in double digits yet again. This inner city rivialry isn't as hyped as it once was. I was highly dissapointed in student turn out for both teams, especially DL's. The house is usually packed for both of those games. However, the weather and the game being on a Tuesday probably played a factor in the size of the crowd. Hope to see you all at DL, where hopefully we wil lhave bigger crowds and a better game. BIG BEN
  5. When it was explained to me why they had to remove them I was told for safety, because lets say 2 players are going up for a board and a finger slides under the "message" braclet and then the players rips his arm down catching that finger in there... see there are so many what if's... I mean lets not complain or argue with the refs about it, just put on your jersey, shorts, and shoes and lets play ball... BIG BEN
  6. Did Jamie Henderson finish top in the GoMab Showcase this year, out performing everyone else on the floor? Didn't think so... And of course a guy can see the floor if all he is doing is feeding to Trey Hobson for 20 three point attempts a game... BIG BEN
  7. Im not Josh Jones.... One of the others is... Idiot BIG BEN
  8. Well you just heard it from the man himself so...
  9. Eh, but he isn't even the best PG in this district... I gotta give it Gerald Robinson. This guy is practically the fastest guard in the state with amazing jumping ability and great court vision. It will be great to see Slater and Robinson duke it out for the title "Best PG in 9AA" BIG BEN
  10. Now I know the question is MLK's depth, but they had a few more people step up and play this year that weren't on the roster from last year and they have some people who have moved up from middle school ball. Clarence Smith's brother looks pretty decent and will be a force, but look for the top 3 to carry most of the weight along with Eugene Kirk a Junior guard who sat out last season with a broken wrist. Doc always has his boys ready to compete so don't rule them out just because they seemingly graduated their team. BIG BEN
  11. Yeah, Josh does have a bright future.... Gerald is going to ba amazing this year now that he gets to step up and lead the team! Good Luck to all in the new 8 AA! BIG BEN
  12. Well, I'm back on the boards... Definately the biggest difference is the absense of Martin Luther King and David Lipscomb from this district. Your talking about losing the top two teams of the district last year and now having 3 and 4 compete for a spot in the region. Prediction for this distrcit: Greenbriar, They bring alot of experience back and won't have the powerhouse teams to fight... look for them to skate into the region. BIG BEN
  13. Yes, Finally.... I am tired too of people saying that Middle TN is weak... Look at the AA and AAA tournaments this year... 8 teams 4 from the West and 4 from Middle... Middle -- Hillsboro, Martin Luther King, siegel, and David Lipscomb West -- Raleigh Egypt, Jackson North Side, Ridgeway, and Bolivar Central BIG BEN
  14. We are shipping 6 seniors out of the lineup. I hate to say it,but MLK basketball won't be the same. We will lose Johnny Lee #12, Kris Smith #20, Demario Dayton #44, Shawn Sims #34, Amit Patel #24, and James Kaminski #42.... The best Senior Class Ever at Martin Luther King... Thanks for the ride fellas we will never forget it... BIG BEN
  15. I know how you feel man, being a senior myself I am going to miss the games. But yall keep doing what your doing Harris and if anyone wants to rip yall and say your blowing smoke, come find me and I'll let them know just how "real" the siegel Nation really is... BIG BEN
  16. So, after watching the Royals go down on Friday night, after putting up the best game they could have played (Sorry, but MLK is getting no respect for how close they played Bolivar), I stayed to watch the AAA games at the Murphy Center. After getting to watch the Delk twins beat up on Hillsboro, I was about to get up and leave untill I started to talk to a couple from siegel. I had read a lot on Coach T about the Nation and they convinced me to stay and watch the team, but more so the student section. I WAS AMAZED... especially for a two year program. All of you who know me know that I lead my school's student section at MLK, but the Nation puts me to shame. Even though the tourney was held in their hometown, It was crazy just how many came out. After continuous talking with the couple behind me (who by they way was the siegel girls volleyball coach and her husband was a baseball assistant at siegel), I anxiously awaited siegel to get a free-throw because they assured me that the chant off a made one would be like nothing I had ever heard. DID YOU SEE THAT MESS?!? DANG!! How original and well organized... I mean the whole fan section, it was a true fan's dream. Then was the great chant/distraction of the Ridgeway players when they shot free throws... All in all I was more impressed with the Student Section than with the team. What a show.. Just thought I would tell yall to keep it up a fan base like that can boost any team, especially with who you got coming back... Just keep cheering and they'll keep winning.. BIG BEN
  17. Probably one of the best first round match-ups, Haywood versus Martin Luther King will be a battle between the power offense and power defense. Can the Royals make it 2 straight semi-finals? Or is Haywood simply to much for the Royals? I am looking for some serious insight... I really don't know much about Haywood Post Predictions and Info here. BIG BEN
  18. Woah, before you go jumping on me take the plank out of your own eye. Your own fans, Brier Boyz is the one who was totally trashing me on this board, I just made a comment about how me and the Lipscomb crew are headed to the 'Boro and the cats aren't. The facts hurt man, so before you jump on me, tell your own crew to lay off the personal stuff too, man. Talk about classless... BIG BEN
  19. MLK Basketball will dramatically change after this year. Losing 6 key members of the Royals team, including star PG Johnny Lee and F Kris Smith, the Royals will look to Gerald Robinson (Probably the most underrated player on the MLK team this year), Clarence Smith, and John Hopson (a key starter this year). I think the X-Factor next year will be the leadership of Gerald Robinson. Johnny's shoes are some hard ones to fill, but if anyone can do it, it's Gerald. With an uncanny ability to get to the rim, and handles like nobody I've ever seen, Gerlad brings alot to the table and will give some teams some problems next year in 9-AA. John Hopson and Clarence Smith will provide the team with a ton of production, and also alot of experience. John will become the natural leader for the Royals, the question is simply can Gerald step up. Look for the Royals to be hurt with the losses of many key players next year, but still be able to ball with the best of them. GOOD LUCK IN 05-06 ROYALS! BIG BEN
  20. I played church ball with the kid and from what I have seen he is quite the player. Station Camp looks to be one of the top contenders next year for the 8-AA crown. If Reeves and Jones can lead the team, with Brinkley lighting it up every game, then they could beat most, if not all of the teams coming to join them next year. Even though I am off to college, I'll try to keep up with the High School games, especially with my boy Josh Jones.... (HAHA) BIG BEN
  21. Well, After driving back 3 hours in the driving rain from Chattanooga it sure feels good to sit a home knowing we are headed to the State tournament in the 'Boro. As for the game last night, Walker Valley kept it close until about mid-way through the 3rd quater. In fact they took their only lead of the night in the 3rd, going up 33-32 off of a huge 3 pointer. The Royals would answer however and break the game open looking like the Royals of old. With huge nights from Gerald Robinson (18 points) and Kris Smith (25 points), the Royals are heading to the 'Boro full steam ahead, and if Johnny can step up like he has done all year with help of these 2 then the Royals could be looking for an upset of Haywood. I hope that this game can boost the Royals spirit after losing to the other Mustangs of Lipscomb. See you in the 'Boro. BIG BEN P.S. Yes Brier Boyz me and BombSquad, do make a good couple. We are a couple of huge basketball fans heading to the TENNESSEE STATE TOURNAMENT to see our teams play. Are you going? Oh wait thats right, you were gone a long time ago. So why don't you just, go on and get ready for baseball season, because basketball is long over for you.
  22. If you asked Walker Valley whom they wanted to host on Monday, I can assure you they didn't want the Royals. Doc will kick some hind ends in gear for this one 180 miles from the "hood". I don't know much about Walker Valley, so feel free to enlighten me. However, I do know that Chatt Arts and Sciences and Walker Valley were not the favorites to come out of the region. Predictions and Information on Walker Valley? Post here. BIG BEN
  23. Hey, I'm looking to change my name to "BigHeadedRoyalBen"... What you think.. LOL! Congrats to Lipscomb! BIG BEN
  24. Well I think it is time for a name change... I'm thinking maybe "BigHeadedRoyalBen". Yes, it is true Lipscomb took it to MLK. In a very poor night for MLK, David Lipscomb came to play. MLK shot terrible from the floor in the second half and just looked absolutely flat. All the momentum was going for the Mustangs. I must say, however, that even though LIpscomb came to play tonight, the refs were most assuredly leaning torward Lipscomb. I think there should have been a few more foul calls and also a few more no calls in some situations. Doc Shelton I think put it well when he told his fellow coaches it feels like we are playing 8 on 5 out there. Congrats to Lipscomb and I hope that the trip home to play your Sub-State game will bid well for you. Maybe this way both teams can head to the Boro. Tournament MVP -- Jason Brock (David Lipscomb) All-Tounry Players (From Tonight) -- Slater (DLHS) Lee (MLK) Pharr (DLHS) Hopson (MLK) K. Smith (MLK) Brock (MVP--DLHS) BIG BEN P.S. Looks as if I am off to Cattanooga...
  25. First Question... WHERE WAS THE DEFENSE?!? I hate to burst the David Lipscomb bubble, but don't look forward to putting up the same numbers tonight. With the Royals hold Brock and Mayes in check 3 times already this season, Brock won;t have a double -- double and MLK will clean up on the boards. Also the swarming Royal defense will be in full force tonight. I mean for the 6 seniors on this team, it's their last game versus Lipscomb, unless they completely go all out and make it to the State finals, so look for the Seniors to play hard and come out hot. By the way, Bobcats, What happened to fronting Brock and Mayes last night? I'm telling you thats the only way to get the W versus the Mustangs. BIG BEN
