  1. Has it been that many games in a row?! Um... yes please! I'd like to see that streak end tonight!! I talked to former standout kicker Mike Jackson last night and it got me to thinking back on our kicking game over the years. I guess he was the best kicker we've had that I can remember. Still has a few records I believe. Besides consistent PATs, he kicked (gasp!) field goals too! Hopefully we'll see the kicking imporove as we get into this season more.
  2. Well it's only a few more hours til kickoff... Looking forward to seeing the team in their all black home uniforms tonight instead of those white ones last week. Think I'll get me one of those Monster drinks before the game. Roy likes those Red Bulls but I like Monsters better. Now if only I'd bought me one of those Murphy Fair books earlier this year to study... On a serious note, I hope we do better kicking PATs tonight. The kicking game worries me sometimes. I don't expect it to be crucial tonight but it will be somewhere down the line. I'm just ready to watch the game. Go Pirates!!
  3. I'm not saying that MCs troubles are going to cost them the game against Whitwell. I'm like Pegleg, I believe that this year's Tiger team can beat this year's MC team regardless of whatever drama is or isn't playing out down there. The Tigers are showing steps of improvement under Coach Barnhart. He's taken over a program that has been in a slump for several years and things won't change overnight so any signs of improvement are good. There's a mindset that has been ingrained in the school football programs in Whitwell that will take awhile to change. I'm glad to see them doing better.
  4. Hmmm... sources are saying that the Warriors had 9 players quit yesterday. If this is true then things aren't sounding any better for them this year. If the ones who quit didn't have their heart in it and were bringing morale down, then it may not be that bad. Maybe some of you Warrior faithful can shed some light on this. Alot of disarray in the Warrior camp this year it seems. Hopefully they will get things ironed out and back on track soon. I'd like to see our whole county doing well. Having said that, it's sounding like the Tigers' odds are improving for tonights game. I hear the Warriors are going to wear their purple jerseys instead of white to the game. An attempt at intimidation? I'd watch this contest tonight if I wasn't gonna be cheering on the Pirates against LV. Gonna be interesting
  5. I watched Whitwell play Copper Basin and although there were many mistakes, they showed some signs of improvement. However, once CB got ahead by a couple of touchdowns, the morale quickly deteriorated for Whitwell. I think Whitwell has the best chance to beat the Warriors this year that they've had in many years. With Justin Havis at QB they have some versatility and can move the ball. The Warriors have struggled so far this season but no doubt they will be up for this one against a county rival and after suffering back to back losses. Whitwell needs early momentum in order to keep confidence high IMO. Tigers 28 Warriors 21
  6. I'll be down on the wall mostly, with an occasional visit into the stands to talk with sportman, powerp and a few other scallywags. I think our boys will continue to improve this week and find their groove, especially offensively. I looked for red bull cans and fudge rounds last week as an indicator of where Roy may be. Never saw any. I did however see a feller come in who looked uncannily like Roy's pic on these forums... He'd look right at home in a leather vest, ridin a hog up to any local waterin' hole. Hehe
  7. Easy, Roy! You crack me up! It was the Jr High (South Pittsburg Academy) playing tonight, not the JV. They won over Whitwell Middle School 40-14.
  8. LOL! I think you're right, Capt. They aren't gonna gain much more size now. Tough practices in the heat will probably cause a few to shed some weight. The bulk (no pun intended) of their weight lifting is done during the spring and summer before the season starts
  9. Ha! Good one. The Pirates should swab the deck with those Jackets from the mountain... bringing to mind another Coming to America line that you're dad loves to quote, "This mopping is easy"! Seriously, if we struggle in this game, it could be a long season
  10. I believe Coach Tierney is teaching at Richard Hardy right now, if I heard correctly. I'm not aware of him coaching anything right now. If anyone else has more information, maybe they'll share it
  11. You're right about that. They are working hard at practices and we have an outstanding coaching staff to guide them. Practices are broken down into efficient groups with these coaches going over and over and over things. They are being taught, it's up to them to apply it all on the field. I've saw a couple of flat practices, after which Coach Grider reminded them that they can't just "flip a switch" and start performing at game time. These kids put alot of pressure on themselves to perform well and not fail. I think they'll be ready to take the field and commence to hittin on guys other than their own team mates this Friday. Lookin forward to it!
  12. I believe that not all of the players are listed in Murphy's Fair because they transfered and/or weren't there during spring practice. D.J. is on the team and has been practicing. He is originally from SP. He attended through the sixth grade. He has been at LFO and has now transferred back if my information is correct. He may not have been there for spring practice, or maybe not officially on the roster at the time that the Murphy's Fair information was gathered. There are other players on the team who weren't there for spring practice and maybe are not on the Murpy's Fair roster also. I'm sure by the time the game programs are available, the roster will be correct.
