  1. Thanks. I'm afraid the Warriors have run into a buzz saw tonight. Goodpasture's QB is playing like a D1 prospect (don't know if he is or not, but he's got a cannon and wheels) and it isn't looking like CAK's stout defense can slow him down.
  2. It's a sad situation for all affected by it.
  3. Things aren't always as they seem. And the record this year was the 2nd best in his 4 years at Grace. Same regular season record (8-2) as the best year (2019), just didn't make it as far into the playoffs before elimination this year.
  4. The sheep will be well protected. Good luck!
  5. Where did Booger Jr. decide to go?
  6. That's cool! He would make a good Wildcat. But it gets COLD in the 'burbs of Chicago!
  7. Interesting...so, I still don't have a clue whether there's an east all-region team or not. Your comment about not needing "second team" this or that is great and I agree with that sentiment. My point is I haven't seen any publication in the local newspaper or the twitter-verse or anywhere else of an east all-region list. Virtually every other classification and region in the state has had one published. Have you seen one for the east, and, if so, where? Other than on the Haslam school's head honcho's napkin. I don't travel in circles that would make me privy to the head honcho's napkin.
  8. Booger usually knows stuff that others not so knowledgeable don't know, so I'll take your word for it. The Knoxville newspaper has really gone WAY downhill in what they report about high school sports. Hopefully Booger has better news outlets than we do here in K'town!
  9. That's interesting. As far as I can tell, every other division, etc. throughout the state has announced their all-regions, some of them quite some time ago now. Any idea why it's taking Division II--AA east so long?
  10. I never saw an all-region posted for Division II--AA. Anybody seen it posted somewhere?
  11. Agreed. There were some very good players on the teams in the bottom of the East this year who likely won't get recognized as all-region because their teams struggled and there are only a limited number of spots on all-region.
  12. Typically the All-Region awards are done by giving each team a specific number of spots based on its place in the final standings. The team that won the district gets x number of All-Region picks, the team that finished second gets x-1 (or some other number), the team that finished third gets x-2, and so on. So, the team that won the district will by definition get the greatest number of all-region players. The team that finished last will get significantly fewer. I'm not saying that's right, but that's how they do it. Good luck to the Irish this weekend.
  13. Wow. I missed that part of the game when I was trying to watch some online. A friend who knows the family just showed me a clip of the play. Clearly an illegal cut block outside the box and I'm shocked it didn't draw a flag since it was right in front of the ball so at least 2-3 officials should have seen it. The young man who did it seemed pretty happy with himself too after the play.
  14. On that we can agree. And congrats to the Rams on a very nice season. Lots of good players on that team.
  15. If the Irish play this coming Friday the way they did against Grace last night, there'll be another thumpin'. Booger needs to get his troops some of that stick-um stuff--Irish DBs dropped two pick 6's they had right in their hands; also some untimely drops by ND WRs. Only one offensive TD against a Rusty Bradley defense? Having seen the Irish play three times now, their O is beginning to look a little one-dimensional as well. The only offensive set the Irish seem to be able to run with any sustained proficiency is the single wing, and them CPA boys will shut that down in a hurry. I'm afraid your boys have an uphill battle this week. ND succeeded in shutting down Grace's run, as it needed to do. Held the Grace QB to less than 50% completions and had 3 INT (should have had 5). Had a KO return for TD, a blocked punt for TD and a pick 6, and still just barely managed to eke out a 3-point win at home! Of course in the playoffs the W is what matters most, but besides getting the W did you see any positives for the Irish in that game last night?
  16. Very good analysis from what I saw watching on the web last night. I've seen CPA play twice this year and ND three times now. From what I've seen of these two teams, ND will have its hands full, even if Patterson doesn't play.
  17. Webb #15 is not going to get 20+ carries and he's not going to single-handedly beat CPA; it's extremely rare for any Webb player to get that many touches in a game because Coach Meske spreads the ball around so much. Often the stars don't even get more than 10-12 carries in a game. Misdirection and deception are fundamental underpinnings of that offensive style--combined with some breakaway speed. As I've said before, it's likely that Webb 13 and/or 15 will reel off a few long runs, but not nearly enough for this opponent. LB play is the key to keeping an offense like Webb's under control. First, the OLBs have to set an edge and turn the play inside. That's step 1...if you have a good OLB and he sets the edge and turns the play in, then step 2 is the ILBs (and DE and S) have to be chasing the play to make the tackle. Meske will test both OLBs for CPA and figure out which one he thinks is most vulnerable--the answer is neither. They might lose contain a couple of times during the course of a game, but for the most part they're very solid and disciplined. And CPA's ILBs (especially #4) is the fastest LB at closing a hole I've seen all year, maybe the last several years. Sparty is right as well--if your DL can get some penetration and make the Webb RB have to make a move, or get a hit on them in the backfield (even if it's not a tackle), it disrupts the whole play. But even assuming there's not much line penetration, CPA's LB corps is good enough to play disciplined D, set an edge, turn the play inside and let #4 clean it up. Big challenge for the Spartans this week. Good luck!
  18. I haven't watched the film but Warrior Son #1 was an OL so I've gone down this path of holding vs. not-holding many a time. What you're describing--if I understand it correctly--sounds like holding. Having a handful of jersey is NOT a requirement for a holding call; in fact most holding calls probably don't involve a handful of jersey--(it's easier to see and get called though if officials see a jersey stretch). If the OL puts his hands on the outside of the defender's arms and grabs enough to twist the defender's upper body, that should draw a flag. If the OL hooks the defender's arm to take him down, that's holding. If the OL hooks the defender's side under the arm and twists for a takedown that's probably holding too.
  19. Alcoa routinely dresses that many players or more and it's a 3A school. It just means that 1 out of every 2.5 boys in the school is on the football team. During halftime of the CPA/CAK game they honored the CPA middle school football team--let's just say they have a lot, and I do mean a lot, of large and athletic looking kids in the pipeline for the future as well. Announcer rattled off some statistics about how the MS team is 40-5 in the last so many years. I didn't catch all the details. CPA is well on its way to becoming a football powerhouse.
  20. On that we agree. Thanks for editing your post. There is too much strife in the world for God's children to quibble over HS athletics, and I appreciate you deciding not to go where you thought about going.
  21. I'm sure you didn't intend for that to sound like you were making fun of the boys. Go ahead and poke fun at me, that's fine, but let's avoid saying stuff that might be construed as demeaning to the young men who played with heart even if the team struggled badly much of the season.
  22. I think you're on target with your analogy comparing CPA to Alcoa...Aloca in their hay day...not now...as from what I saw against GCA this year's Alcoa team is a bit down compared to their typical standards (will probably still win state because all the viable Alcoa-beaters are now in Div II). I think this year's Alcoa, while very good, is a bit down compared to most recent years, and would be vulnerable to a challenge by the likes of CPA or ND. But yeah, CPA this year is comparable to your typical all-around strong in every aspect Alcoa team; frankly, CPA probably throws the ball better than your typical Alcoa team and runs it as well the typical Alcoa team.
  23. None that I saw. As I mentioned earlier, CAK's passing game was so out of sync we didn't really challenge CPA's secondary, but they looked good too on those rare occasions when CAK got a ball delivered on time on target. A couple of times CPA's offense turned the ball over on downs and looked a little sloppy for a play or two. But those episodes were rare and short-lived. They are solid in all facets of the game and appear very well coached. That doesn't mean they can't be beaten, but it will not be easy.
