  1. Exactly, 68 and ready to enjoy his golden years with his wife who has had some health issues. Soddy finished 2nd in the District and beat Cleveland in the Region. Only two players graduate so the program is not too empty it seems. Good luck Soddy in your search for a new coach. I hear there have already been over 30 applicants.
  2. What do you expect, the principals to dress out and play. They have hired Tom Weathers. Most expected that to be a good decision. The school won 3 State Championships last year, so where do you bring in the administration? Did you forget the weather, texture of the grass, wrong cheers, bad pre-game meals, etc.
  3. The Lions will make it two in a row with an overtime win tonight. See you at the game!
  4. RB has the best team overall that we've had in a long time. The talent is there and Cherne is a good coach. Talent wise, RB has much more than Soddy, but Soddy has Shumate. I guess the best will come out when the tournaments run their course.
  5. I agree, these are all very accomplished coaches. I think Coach Cherne is having a great year for the Lions. That still doesn't diminish Shumate's two collegiate national championships. I don't care to hear the argument that he is in the high school ranks now and not college. You can't argue with his credentials. He'll take whatever talent he has, strong to weak, and maximizes the outcome. I would have loved to play for him in high school!!
  6. I am for the Lions, but Soddy is a great school and things will continue to change for RB with when the new Signal school opens. Coach Shumate has the most impressive credentials of any coach around and from all I hear, the players love him at Soddy. You can't go wrong with Shumate and Soddy!
  7. I was totally shocked by the way SD came back. They were down by almost 20 at one point. Russell McNeal played tough and it is evident that Coach Shumate's teams never quit. SD should be proud of the scrappy, extra hustle type kids they have playing. I credit their play to Coach Shumate. The team is not extra talented, but they win on hustle and playing as a team. Good job SD.
  8. I don't think Coach Weathers or Monroe are dealing with this type of situation. I know many coaches do have to put up with some bad situations, but neither of these fine coaches are leaving their current positions as far as what they have said in response to the rumor mongers. In fact, they don't know where all of this speculation even started.
  9. Our whole society has to deal with issues today differently than in "the good ole days". Anyone is the school business has my salute. This is even true in little leagues. If you have ever coached a little league team you know what I mean. There are great kids today, but also many are tremendously spoiled and parents are convinced they do no wrong. Go coaches, principals, and teachers, you are our salvation!
  10. This whole thread is just rumor. I know Coach Weathers and he likes Soddy and is not leaving. I have friends at Ooltewah who know Coach Monroe and say he does not know why this post is up either. This debate is pointless and unfounded.
  11. It is interesting how all of these threads concerning another team become dominated by how great Ooltewah will be. Is there nothing to do in Owl land? This thread was about Soddy and has turned into how great Ooltewah is going to be -detail after detail. Bradley, Red Bank, McMinn, it don't matter. The Owls always turn the theme in the direction of their program. Ooltewah should be good next year - agreed. You guys don't have to keep repeating yourselves on every thread. You could save us all a lot of time and go ahead and post your football program with complete player and coaches' bios, favorite foods, pet names, etc. so the whole state can be intrigued with all the Owl tidbits.
  12. Hey, now Coach Cherne can put posts on for the next 50 years about how RB beat Bradley in '05. That seems to be the ticket to measuring success around here.
  13. The Lions were awsome . I told you some people can't handle success. Sorry Owls, but come on up and cheer for the Lions and Trojans anyway!
  14. Well some of our "regular experts" are proven wrong again. Like I have said all year, anyone is capable of beating anyone at this point. It was really heartwarming to see this "upset". We have not heard from some of those who predicted "bears win it again". The Lions can be a force and they proved that last night.
  15. mnewballer is riding the wave, just someone else's. He probably couldn't dribble a basketball, but has ok typing skills, so he makes a good CoachT jock. Some people don't know how to handle success, but good job anyway to the players. I thought Brainerd and RB would win last night, but the Owls and Trojans played to win and deserve their credit due. mnewballer, don't be a bad reflection on your school's success last night. The season is far from over.
  16. Yeah, our guys just got it taken to them in the second half against Soddy. The big guy made a difference last night. I bet Soddy wishes he had been able to play against Brainerd too. Soddy was tough and showed a lot of improvement. Congrats to the Trojans and Owls for big wins last night.
  17. I just wanted to say good games to all last night. Both boys games where very competitive. The lions let the Owls get too far out to make a successful comeback, but I was proud of the way they fought back. The Brainerd/SD game was a barnburner. The refs must have it in for the Trojans as they got it stuck to them several times. The technical was just a retaliation for some of the fans expressing their disgust with some of the horrible calls the Trojans got. I don't ever remember the officiating being as bad as it has been this year. Soddy was throwing the ball in on an inbounds pass twice and Brainerd's man crashed into Soddy's man both times from behind and the refs called fouls on Soddy. It was horrible. The refs this year have promoted the fans vocal displeasure with pitiful displays of "officiating", then look for someone to call a technical on or to throw out of the gym. I wish something could be done in this area. The players and coaches do well to put up with the poor quality officiating in Chattanooga.
  18. Yes, I will be out of town for that one on the 11th, but will be back in time for the district tournament.
  19. I think the district is at Brainerd this year. I am not saying anyone will be easy, but the last meeting between the Lions and Owls was sweet. I really think we'll do it again. I am looking forward to a battle and I know it will be a good one. All the games in this district will be battles, even for the birds of paradise.
  20. No, look at deniron's posts - pro Ooltewah, anti-SoddyDaisy, and expert at everything. I guess RB will be the next axe to grind. By the way, we really enjoyed beating the HOOTERS and look forward to the next chance in the district!
  21. RB will regroup and be ready for the district. There is so much balance, top to bottom, I was worried about this one. We're still here!!
  22. :justwrestle: You mean TSSAA isn't going to put Ooltewah on probation for this? I thought it was Ooltewah's own deniron who believes immediate punishment for such actions. I believe it was an earlier conflict with Hixson and SD in which heads were to roll - forget time to investigate. Forget there was two sides to the story, as always. Forget sorting throught the facts and making reasonable judgement in consultation with TSSAA. Let the CoachT "experts" determine such fate, even if they don't have the whole story or didn't attend the game. I've heard enough, chair throwing should be addressed by the TSSAA. I hope this is not "swept under the rug".
