  1. Philly. I agree too. You are spot on. I know you asked for two people to answer your hypothetical. One wasn't me but I'm going to answer it anyways. I would absolutley not play for that coach. The hypothetical sounds very familiar to what people are saying went on at Bearden last year. That is why two main players didn't play this year.
  2. Sounds like the future is bright!! Congratulations!!
  3. K2R you are correct. Catholic has always had great coaching staff. This new coach is no different. If he was at Farragut, Bearden (all the girls would have tried out), CAK or Webb he would win a state championship. There is no two ways about it. He can flat out coach. He gets the most out of his girls and they seem to be having fun..
  4. I just looked up to see where the CAK coach was before he came to knoxville. He was at a small college. That should answer your questions about him. Not too many people leave coaching college to coach high school (if they are any good). You can make all the excuses you want but the facts are the facts. Everyone knows why you leave..
  5. Bratman. If you look back on some of my post you will see that I hold Anderson County volleyball in a different category. Their Rich volleyball tradition is second to NO ONE!!! If I could pick one high school volleyball team to watch year in and year out it would be AC. I know how they do it. It's tradition. The program has such a high standard that no one in the school is going to let it down. That's the same reason why Maryville continues to win in football. AC also has and has had many great coaches. This also is part of building a tradition. mas6. We are basically talking about knoxville volleyball. Not any where else. We have no idea of how other places, such as rural towns do volleyball. Thanks for sharing how that works. It great that you are helping girls find a place in volleyball. Keep up the good work.
  6. Mas6. If you are sending your daughter to play club because that will give her a scholarship, then you are sadly mistaken. Playing club volleyball does not guarentee a scholarship. The club directors don't guarentee a scholarship. Your childs hard work and dedication to the sport will help with that but not guarentee it either. 2% of the athletes in the country get a D1 scholarship. That's not many. I've been around one club for a while and the director never once told my daughter or I that if she played club she would get a scholarship. That's absurd!!!! The PR club was great to be around for a time. Not sure about now. It didn't however produce a lot of D1 players. Keep looking for non club players to become collge prospects. You won't have to work that hard. There aren't many!!
  7. This may go down as one of the craziest thoughts on the board. As I see it, Club volleyball is a business. It's not anything else. If you don't have it then it would be very tough to recruit. Ask the college coaches if they would rather have club girls or high school girls. I'm not giving you an answer, I'm asking you to find out from the horse's mouth yourself. Can you tell me how many college coaches have been at your high school volleyball games this year? If there wasn't a market out there for club teams then they would all go bankrupt. It's the american way. That's how businesses get started. When one sees a market for an idea and he or she goes after that market. If they were wrong then they close up shop, if they were correct then they profit. Please don't go there with the "elitist" excuse. I've been to many tournaments over the past 15 years and I've talked to a lot of club directors. They have ALL told me that alot of their players are playing for free or discounted prices.
  8. Chill...Then don't read it anymore!
  9. You are exactly right Beachboy!!!. We get so caught up (as parents) in our children that we lose focus on what we should be doing. We constantly battle with doing the right thing vs doing what we think is best. It's not always about "my kid" is it? I think not. I had to deal with this a while ago at Karns. I thought the coach was not giving my daughter a fair shake. Even some of my friends would tell me the same thing. I thought (seriously) about moving her to another school, because you know. The coach knows nothing I know everything and my daighter should be playing..LOL.. Well i am so glad I didn't do any of that. I understood that my daughter wasn't playing for a reason the coach had. The coach is the coach and that's how it was going to be. I made my daughter stick it out there and boy oh boy was she better for it. She learned so much from that. One of the things she learned was, although you can always run away from problems, you don't. You deal with them and learn from them. It's time our parents start doing that. Don't move your kids just because you think they "deserve" to play. Let them learn and strive to be better. Sooner or later we (parents) will not be able to help our kids out.
  10. Great Article. Any dad would be proud to have a daughter like that. She'll do great things college. With her help and the other senior leadership, the team can't help but get better.
  11. I can't answer that question. I'm just telling you part of what was told to me. Like I said, in order not to embarrass the coach and go into more detail. Let's just leave it at that. This answer wasn't to talk about K2 vs KVA. It was an answer to beachboy.
  12. Knoxdoyle. I understand what you are saying. All those things can be fixed with proper coaching. Hopefully by the end of the year Bearden Volleyball is a force to be reckoned with. Good Luck!
  13. Beachboy. I hope this answer is good eneough. I'm not going to elaborate in order not to embarrass the coach. Knoxdoyle is correct. He was on the smjvc staff along with the k2 staff. He (in the words of my friend) was in no way trained by the K2 directors. He was the 3 team coach and a 2 team coach. You're knowledgable in the volleyball world. We all know 2 and 3 team coaches. Let's just leave it at that. Please!!!
  14. I'll do some research on this. I'll back back to you. Some of our players used to play at k2 before graduating. I'll check.
  15. Thanks EB i was wondering who won this match. I do have to give the Catholic coach some credit. He and the coach before him did a great job with less talent than anyone in the county. He's doing it again this year too. Catholic has been lucky over the past several years to have these two coaches.
  16. Beachboy. The K2 outfit just started generating some talented girls. The last 2 years were girls that had not developed through the whole system. The talent (as I hear about it) is in the younger girls. The next 3 years will tell how well their system is working for their girls. There were some last year that went on scholarship. Two D1 and another to a smaller school (i can't remeber where). The true out come will be these next 3 years. There should be quite a few going out this year from both clubs. I hope all the girls in our county go D1!! Wouldn't that be great!!!
  17. K2 You are correct. As i watch Bearden play and see the girls on the team, it's hard to believe how much they under achieve. Can you explain that to me? Is it the coach or the girls? What's your thoughts? I can remember when we made our big push at winning a state title our coach would tend to over coach in the "big" games. That's when we would lose. We had a lot of talent those four years and when she just let them play they played more relaxed and always won.
  18. K2. If you ask the parents that had anything to do with Bearden in the last 3 years they will tell you he leaves. It will be interesting. If he loses to Farragut again in the tournament they may ask him to leave.
  19. I wouldn't lump the CAK coach in with the Farragut coach. Although he is a close second he isn't as bad as she is. We had a bad one too and now she is at Lenoir City (thank goodness). The Farragut coach knows absolutley nothing about how to play to win. Phandango is correct, she has so many good players that she can take a nap and have a better outcome. The CAK coach tries to manipulate the game too much. Just let the girls play. You have a lot of talent, let them play.
  20. Volleyball is the only sport that I know of that is recruited via club level. Yes the coaches talk to the athletes high school coach (if she plays) but the recruiting is done at the club level. Football and basketball are not. Basketball kids still get recruited via high school and AAU. This is why the girls that have ambitions of playing college volleyball choose club first then "maybe" high school. I strongly believe it should be up to the player and her family. as mentioned before, I have talked to several girls this summer about why they are not playing high school and non of them said it was because their club coach didn't want them to. The high school coaches may think that happens sometimes but that means we aren't giving these students and their parents any credit for being able to figure it out for themselves.
  21. I'm starting this thread because the "Bearden vs Farragut" thread got off topic. This is a better topic for all Knox area high school volleyball. If you have a specific topic by all means please start another one. Great conversation going on. Keep it up.
  22. I was looking forward to this matchup but as I watched the game it was very evident that there is no comparison between the two teams. I told my wife we would be late because I thought this one would go 5. Boy was I wrong. It's obvious that Bearden is missing some girls from last year in a big way. The MB who is not playing and the libero that left for Louisville have hurt them. I'm still trying to figure out why the MB isn't playing this year. I'm shocked that this game was so "one sided". Never thought I would see a Bearden team look like that. Hopefully they will regroup and get some leadership on the team. They will beat the ones they should but I don't loook for them to win any "Big" games. Good luck to both teams as they further their season along.
  23. Hardangle Were you there? Give us your thoughts on both teams. Did Bearden losing some players from last year hurt them?
  24. why was there off season drama with Bearden? Two years ago their setter was All State. She is still there. I know they lost a great libero from graduation and 2 other players due to not trying out, but their team should be solid. Their OH is back along with their MB. They shouldn't have any problems with teams in this area except for farragut. I'm guessing they only have one senior this year since that's the only one mentioned in the preseason write up. They are a young team!!!
