  1. Well, all the discussion about Halls "cheerleading" managed to get into the Knoxville News Sentinel http://www.knoxnews.com/kns/preps_baseball...3780889,00.html It still amazes me that this is still being called "bush" league here on Coacht. All I know to say is that it is a tradition of Halls baseball, I guess people are just mad that this team brought it back in full force because I do remember six years ago when I was a freshman that this clapping and chanting was done as well. Another thing you males might want to consider is changing the way you call it. If you have a girlfriend or wife, I'm sure they would jump you for making these sexist remarks and we all know that the female has the final say anyways, right guys? Don't deny it!!! thumb
  2. Larsen, he's the number 1 and you always pitch the number one in the first game of the regionals
  3. I imagine Halls would pitch Larsen against whoever they play in that first game of region so he could turn around and pitch in sectionals assuming Halls won. That would be the plan I would think. That first game of regions will be a pitcher's duel no doubt.
  4. nec, you got a pretty good argument there, but you got to figure in that, well, speaking for Halls who isn't on the list, anyway, Collierville beat Halls in Halls' second game of the year or something like that 8-1 against their #3 pitcher. I believe halls has the longest winning streak in the state ever since.(not looking at the Farragut rainout where Farragut was ahead or the loss to Oak Ridge where O.R. had to forfeit) As for the rest of the teams on the list, I have no idea what they've done or when they played Collierville or anything like that, so someone else can talk about that.
  5. He's talking about the (Knox) Halls High School baseball team clapping and being into the game this way while they're batting. In another thread a bunch of people are talking about how it's girlish and classless and it should stay in softball.
  6. good point, got in too big of a hurry, lash out if i'm not mistaken it's only done when halls is batting and when the pitcher has the ball. It starts back up after each pitch. You can call it softball or whatever, but maybe different teams and schools have their own way of involving themselves in the game. I don't think anyone should talk bad about another teams tradition or how they approach the game, especially if they're considered one of the best in the state.
  7. Why does everyone latch out at Halls for being in the game? Pretty much all the players were up off the bench clapping like Halls has for a long time and in turn the Halls fans were also. It's tradition and to see most of the players up their participating with each other, isn't that somewhat of a demonstration of a team working together. I guess Halls should just sit down and talk back and forth amongst themselves in the dugout like a lot of the other teams and be reminded of when it's their turn to bat, that way other envious people won't ridicule you all for playing together and participating together.
  8. Halls..they're 20something and 1. I believe it's 28-1 with them being on a 27 game win streak.
  9. Halls is averaging nearly 11 runs/game. They're batting average at last I saw was .423 or something near that.
  10. Are you kidding? Adams leaving or retiring as head principle. He was awesome. What other principle would you ever hear of at the football game either my freshman or sophomore year just turning his eye at the senior prank. I mean, come on. Senior night, the band's on the field, finishes their show, they(some senior or someone) cut the lights to the field...instantly fireworks go off in the neighborhood behind Halls High School and two students go streaking in their underwear across the field. The only reason anyone knew they were on the field was because they were lit up by the lights from the scoreboard as they raced past it. Ah, that was just awesome. Maybe Adams didn't completely let it slide, I don't remember, but for him to not get bent out of shape at the game...Mrs. Groves would've freaked and called some riot police or something crazy. Now her I didn't like that much at all.
  11. Halls has been scrimmaging DB forever it seems in both the spring and the fall. It's always physical, or at least it was when I was around. They also always try to schedule some quality non-region games unlike some coaches. This year they got Karns(a team on the rise), Seveir County(just a rivalry of sorts somehow), and Gibbs which well, this is the first year they'd play Halls. Ironic how they dropped the series back when Halls was a much better team thumb
  12. for the north knoxville area it has to be halls/powell in the battle of Emory Road. always close and physical or at least of late. The two played in a hurricane last year lol
  13. so since you saw the shot, who won lol
  14. geeze, ya'll farragut people sure do have your panties in a wad...to quote myself in my first statement..."eh, catapono or however you spell his name should go back to north carolina where he's from. How would that do farragut hehe" Nowhere did I say Catapono was a bad player, nor did I say it would kill farragut...the point was the kid is good. How many times have you heard someone say.."I wish he was still at that other school (in referrence to any kid in a situation)." Rarely is that said because a kid is bad. Would farragut like catapono not being there, no way. And maybe it's just me but when someone throws "hehe" at the end of a statement, does it not indicate a joke or sarcasm? Anyway, the point concerning the one player making or breaking a team was defending someone calling me an idiot because it's a fact one player CAN (definition: Used to indicate probability or possibility under the specified circumstances) make or break a team(not every team obviously). Now, would you defend yourself if someone called you an idiot who for one doesn't even know you and two, doesn't even have their point correct. yeah, one player isn't going to break farragut, yet, you all seem to think i said that somewhere. Please, let me know where I said farragut couldn't win without Catapono. I mean, if that were the case, Farragut would only win when He's on the mound and you know how absurd that is. I guess Catapono just better pitch all 40+ games Farragut has this year since I said somewhere in this thread that farragut couldn't win without him.
  15. I was about to say I thought he was getting pretty close to the bigs. He's a great pitcher. What I like about those stats is the 4 walks-30 strikeouts. That is just amazing.
  16. Larson is the stud of the group. By far the #1 man in the rotation. If I'm not mistaken he throws a fork ball to back up his fastball often which hits the 90s fairly easily. Don't hold me to that fork ball though...I may be thinking of someone else. Lockwood is a Strong Left Handed kid who I hope quits playing football and will concentrate on Baseball. It would be a shame for him to mess up his arm with the potential he has. He sometimes gets out of control, but Has drastically improved in that area over the years. Nasty curve as well. I would say he throws mid to upper 80s. As for Cody, he was undefeated last year as a sophomore like Catapano. Granted he didn't face the competition Catapano did but still nonetheless, undefeated as a sophomore is pretty good no matter your competition. Cody probably throws lower to middle 80s and has some nasty junk. He puts the ball where it needs to be and is a really smart pitcher. He stepped up big for Halls early to mid season and became the 3rd man in the rotation. So, Halls has it's pitching rotation back in tact for this year off last year's runner-up finish. As I've been saying in other forums, Larson held Farragut to 1 earned run I believe in that championship game that he lost to Minnesota twin Kyle Waldrop 3-1. It was a tremendous pitching game if you like pitching thumb
  17. And the Red Sox would've won the series last year without Kurt Shieling(sp). I think my point with the Sox will talk for itself. I think you should think before you speak. And my point wasn't that farragut wouldn't win without Catapano. I met Rob when he first came to Knoxville when he was 12 I think. My little brother played with him that year and then practically quit baseball after that season(not b/c of Rob before you jump to that idiotic conclusion). Anyway, he(Rob) was dominant then and still is. And no, I'm not the idiot you seem to think I am because I think one player can make or break a team should they lose that player. Look at the Lakers in basketball if you want. They don't have the shaq daddy and they sure aren't that good compared to how there were now are they? Shaq's in Miami and how do they look? So, one player can greatly affect a team no matter the sport. Now, do you still think I'm an idiot?
  18. Someone posted on the scoreboard Clinton 72-Maryville 66. I don't know if that really is the case or not, but we'll find out i'm sure
  19. Yep, definately would have to go with Larson, but didn't this topic say seniors? Delmonico is a junior no matter that he's leaving early or that he was held back. And catapano isn't leaving early, so he definately needs to be in the seniors thread next year, not now. Anyway, back to Larson. I believe he held the almighty Farragut to 1 earned run last year in a 3-1 pitching duel with Minnesota Twin Waldrop, in a losing effort, on two days rest at that. He still started out the game in the low 90s and stayed in the upper 80s all night. I can't wait to see him pitch this year.
  20. eh, catapono or however you spell his name should go back to north carolina where he's from. How would that do farragut hehe
  21. Well, the Clinton boys came through in OT as I heard it on the Clinton radio winning 89-85 in OT. Congrats to the Dragons. Now, if everyone else would follow suit, that would be great.
  22. I know what you mean by the 3rd man rotation, but I also know Cody pitched in some of the state games, but I can't remember which one(s) and I think he dominated that game(s). I'm sure he could tell you for sure. But, here's another aspect on it. Cody was a sophomore last year. To be a sophomore and pitching up on varsity and winning like he did is impressive. Yes, Lockwood was a sophomore last year as well, but it was more expected of him. In my own opinion of Cody, he'd be the #1 pitcher on a lot of teams around here and in the state, yet, he's the #3 man at Halls, or at least the last time I heard. thumb
  23. That's good news mocs, not for other teams but good for him. I saw how he went down Friday and it was kinda just a freak thing. I'm glad for him that he's alright.
  24. I haven't seen any of the other region play, so I don't feel comfortable making predictions. However, I do trust that mocs made some good predictions because he's been doing it all year it seems. If all these teams were to win like mocs thinks they will, I look for Halls to beat Clinton because I don't think the player who got hurt(Dixon?) will be able to return and even if he does, there's no way he's 100%. Also, Halls has played Clinton tough all year and are just flat out due for the win. So far, OR had beaten halls twice, lost the third and Powell had lost to halls twice and won the 3rd. As for Powell and OR, I have to give the upper hand to Powell. They played extremely well the other night against Halls and I look for them to continue that toughness. So, that sets up game #4 between Halls and Powell. My prediction will continue to be a Halls victory every time these two meet. I didn't understand why Halls ran so much man to man defense in that championship game the other night when they were so effective in the 1-3-1 matchup or whatever it was they ran in the game at Halls. Also their shots were a bit off and they just had a cold night shooting the ball it seemed. Cody didn't have a good night in the post, but you can pretty much guarantee that wouldn't be the case again. Overall, all these games will be real intense and the adrenaline will flow through everyone at the games like crazy. Good luck to all but especially those Red Devils. Also, 2/5 from the 3 land isn't too shabby PT. College coaches would love 40% from their players from 3 land. Just keep throwing them up and hitting them like you can, especially on that familiar court thumb And Willy, throw it up man, you got a nice shot. Find that rythm big man.
  25. I would throw Phibbs from Halls in that mix of underrated guys. Yes, he's a pitcher and everyone is talking about Halls' pitching, but they're not really talking about Cody. All you hear is about Larson and Lockwood and for good reason, but Phibbs is stout on the mound and merely a junior. If I'm not mistaken I think he was undefeated on the year last year.
