  1. The Halls guards already have before. Sharp with 16, Borum 18(so much for the O for God only knows huh?), Segers 21, Lucas 9 + the 16 that Cody May threw down in that last game. Smith 21, Ward 25, Roach 10 for Powell Let's see, that's 63 for the 4 Halls guards(that's excluding Cody) and 56 for the Powell post players. Nearly 5 guys in double figures for Halls, where's the D? Perimeter Play/Bench will decide this game and Halls just has the better perimeter and Bench. Hargis has scored a total of 7 points against Halls this year. Nonetheless, it's just going to be a flat out great game. Can't wait till it gets here.
  2. Austin Noe-Halls I don't know much about the other freshman at Halls or I might list some of them too, but I know Austin is good. I've seen him on several occasions over the years.
  3. I have to go with Halls. Guard oriented or not, Cody May will have something to say when they try to come inside. Smith/Ward may score points, but Powell's guard play let them down too much in the last game(in both games combined, Conner, Hargis, and Addis have combined for 24 points). Senior Willy Buchanan stepped up and found his shot against OR and had like 3 threes or something like that. It's good to see that Willy had some success out there. Hopefully he can continue that good shooting. The question surrounding this game though is who's gonna step up off the bench? Powell's bench play wasn't that good in the last meeting and Halls had Segers come off the bench to score like 20+. Whichever team has that role player step up whoever it is will be in great shape. What I look for Halls to do is pack it in a zone and make the outside players have to step up and beat them which I don't think they can do. I also look for this game to be very physical and both teams get to the foul line a whole bunch. There were 61 free throws in the last game. Has Halls gone 28/35 in both games(56/70 total) in the tourney thusfar from the free throw line? I think that's the stats I've heard.
  4. Well, the rankings are out at tbca.org. They've got Halls third in the state behind 1.Farragut and 2. Houston. Overall 2nd in the east.
  5. Well, if you look at the statistical leaders at Knoxpreps.com you see that lee is in the top ten in points, rebounds, and assists...granted not all teams have reported all the games probably but to play the post and be in the top ten in assists is saying a lot. He's a good player, but still, Go Halls
  6. Is there any way we can just go ahead and play these games tomorrow night. Friday seems like forever away. Great job to the Halls and Powell teams tonight. I'm going to take Halls again. I didn't make it out to the game tonight, but I can pretty much guarantee being at the game Friday. Halls/Powell will be one of the hardest fought games you'll see this year in my opinion. I can't even begin to imagine the difficulty Halls will have with it being that elusive 3rd game vs. Powell. Hope Halls can do it. Also, I'll take Clinton in that consolation game. It's late, see ya'll tomorrow for the discussion that I'm sure will begin about all this.
  7. Good point mocs. I have to agree with the upset thing. Halls beat Karns twice and played Clinton close twice...the only teams to beat OR in district play. All 5 of the teams have been really close all year. It's just a matter of who shows up when. Anyone can come out of this thing first. It's just a shame Karns is out of it.
  8. I say let buzz stay for now. He's got 4 more years on his contract. That means we'd be paying him for 4 years without him doing a thing for us. he's got a good recruiting class coming. If he can get Gordon(?) to come to UT, how are you going to fire the man? What Buzz needs is to surround himself with coaches who actually do something for him(I'm sure they do something, but what they do isn't working). He was successful at Tulsa and Appy State (I think that was where he was at). Bottom line is that Tennessee is paying Jerry Green's contract right now still...will be paying Buzz's if they can him...and would be paying the new coach whoever that would be. I don't particularly think they want to pay for 3 coaches at once. Another thing Buzz must recruit is a big man down low who can actually dominate a game. He needs some sort of inside presence so that the good guards that he has can get open from an inside-out game. Lofton can shoot the ball like crazy, watson too..mcfadgon is slumping but could easily shoot it lights out. Now he's got Smith coming, mcfadgon will be gone, but Smith can probably overcome that loss for them. Wingate needs to be more consistant and work hard in the offseason. Patterson needs to look to score more instead of trying to give the ball up. Let's look at this from a slightly different perspective also. How many of us complained when Notre Dame fired Tyrone Willingham because we thought they didn't give him enough time. Well, same case really applies here. The team this year is majorly underachieving. Some games you can tell they want to win, others it doesn't seem they do. They've beaten Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, Xavier, and Stanford on the year. They've played up to their opponents level, but also down to their opponents level(i.e. Auburn, Mississippi,etc.). The players need to have the attitude that every game is the national championship and that is partially Buzz's fault, but he can't make them do it. I like it that Buzz is concentrating more on getting Tennessee players to come to UT. It's a shame that Brewer and Humphrey of Florida aren't at UT, but that's in the past and there's not a thing that can be done about it. If he can get Gordon to UT or one of the other big time players everyone's discussing concerning UT to go along with Smith, then he'll have the base core of players he needs to turn the program around and get everyone off his back. Anyway, I've rambled for way too long.
  9. Halls 74 Karns 67 Powell 60 Central 40 Halls was 28/35 from the free throw line(according to prepradio), giving them the victory. Tomorrow night Halls@OR Powell@Clinton
  10. probably because he's from farragut and everyone gets tired of talking about farragut
  11. I wouldn't be surprised to see Austin Noe see a bit of time at Halls. He'll be a good player over the next few years even if he doesn't actually get in this year.
  12. I still have to go with Halls winning this one tonight. Karns is in a losing funk right now in the district. They've lost 4 of their last 5 district games. The lone win in their last 5 district games was the surprising W over Oak Ridge by 2(but, after beating OR by 2, they turned around and lost to OR 83-58 about 3 weeks later). Halls has won 3 of their last 5, including beating Karns, Powell and Campbell County. Their losses have been to Oak Ridge(Cody May had the flu and played sparingly I believe) and Clinton. Karns let Campbell County get one of their 2 wins on the year against them 3 days after they beat OR and granted that CC is better than that 2-10 district season they had, but still. Karns' Fersner and Jones are the only two to score in double figures against Halls in the teams matchups this season and It's awfully hard to win if you've only got 2 in double figures(even with Fersner scoring 30). Just ask Halls how that works b/c that's how it has been there for the past several years up until this year when Webster got them playing more as a team. Halls is a very dangerous team. Everyone on the court can score and since they're playing more defense as of late, look for them to succeed in the tourney. I agree with Mocs on how it's sad that someone will have to lose tonight. Both teams are very talented. I hope to make it out to the game..it just starts so late and if other games before it are close, this game may not start until 9:30 tonight. Good luck to all. How does everyone think Powell will do with Central? This could be a tricky game!!!
  13. Jameson Dowling, I graduated a couple years ago. I never played high school ball but I love the sport. Who are you high flyer?
  14. beeeuuutiful, I never thought I'd hear the words Halls and defense used in the same sentence in refference to halls actually playing defense. It's always been, Hall's doesn't play defense or Halls can't break this defensive teams press or this or that. Nice post mocs. I was waiting to see if someone else would say that Halls has found some D this year(and if I previously did make remarks about their defense, then, oh well). I didn't want to be the first since I'm a Halls fan. Good luck to all the teams, but especially the big red
  15. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that my uncle had his hand in the anderson county baseball fields...he did william blounts grass and others also...i'll have to ask him which all he's done. I know he's done AC's football field and Coalfield's i believe, but if you've been to William Blount lately, that grass looks awful purty. Except for the third base dugout area which the coach specifically ask him to do it that way...don't ask b/c i don't understand it either.
  16. ah, bummer, he's such a great guy. Thanks
  17. any new news yet or are they still wrestling?
  18. Halls over Karns...they just seem really hot right now even though they had the letdown late against Clinton. I like CC in a slight upset of Central.
  19. Has Vandergriff of Halls wrestled his semi's match yet in 275?
  20. this is the schedule on tssaa.org February 19, 2005 8:00 A.M. Weigh-Ins (Division I & II) 10:00 A.M. Consolations (4th Round), Third & Fourth, Fifth & Sixth (Division I & II) 4:00 P.M. Championship Finals (Division I & II)
  21. I'd say he's talking about Cody Phibbs. I believe he was undefeated last year or maybe he only lost 1 or something like that. Good pitcher.

    Halls Baseball

How far will they go, who's going to challenge them in district, how will they do in your opinion with the pressure this year that they didn't have last year? Just a few questions that could be answered and debated on if not more.
  23. Halls may have the best 3 combined pitchers in state with Larson, Lockwood and Phibbs. It'll be tough for anyone in the district to overcome that, neverless anyone else polston decides to throw on the mound.
  24. I would imagine he said that because last year, Farragut was the more mature team, with Waldrop outdueling Larson in the state championship game that Halls lost 3-1. Waldrop's gone and Larson has had another year to improve. That might be what he meant
