  1. I agree Mo West is behind Powell/Columbia/Tullahoma. Knox West might be a good game. You're spot on about Tenn High's second tie breaker being the real x-factor here. Oh well, tomorrow morning we can all stop guessing. BTW, I'm a huge OSU fan myself, love your sig every time I see it.
  2. I agree. Being how close they are location wise, it could go either way. If I'm the TSSAA, I think I like the idea of putting Powell and Mo West in different quads setting up for a possible Powell/Mo West meeting when it means more.
  3. It's based on location...different teams make it in each year so quads change... as of right now (before tonight's games) Knox West is quad 1...see following link: http://www.tssaa.org/d1football/wildcard.cfm?class=5A
  4. Wouldn't Knox West be in Quad 1 and Powell in Quad 2? Only reason I'm asking is because a few weeks ago these same schools were listed for quad 1 and knox west was in that quad. I may be completely wrong. According to http://www.tssaa.org/d1football/maps5A.cfm, Knox West is east of powell.
  5. Just got done browsing the SC roster and one thing that jumps out at me is SC seems a bit small on paper. I'm sure they have a ton of team speed, but I'll be curious to see the OL/DL battle. Might be an x-factor for this game. It'll be interesting to see the size comparisons live on the field as it may not be as much difference as it seems. Go Trojans!!!
  6. Don't get me wrong, I agree that our linebackers are flat out studs across the board. I also think this defense is built to stop the run and that's why they looked dominant on D against Greenville. I think back to the second half of the Science Hill game and if not for Jarek Barry's diving interception, mo west would have lost that game. They couldn't stop Science Hill's hurry up passing attack and they were getting little penetration in the second half. I have not seen SC play this year, but I think back to how they looked last year and how they appear to others this year and I turned to my wife and said "If they play like that against SC, it won't be close.". So the following game against South Doyle, they couldn't stop the pass again. South Doyle's drops is what stopped them and it was way closer than it should have been. East was a rivalry game, so records and stats don't count. But West was playing from behind almost the whole game and East killed themselves with penalties on the winning drive. Maybe West would've scored regardless, but that's not winning football. I really sincerely hope West has made the necessary changes to get this win, but until I see something different than what they've been putting on the field the last 2 1/2 games...I'm a bit skeptical. After the first 3 1/2 games I would have lined this team up with confidence against most anyone. I don't know if the success is getting to their heads, but they better have the chinstraps tightened and the helmets on straight tonight because this may be biggest test for how far this team can go this year. Still hoping for a Trojan victory and I'll be there cheering them on as loud as I can.
  7. I am by no means an expert on this subject, but I have been to every mo west game since the beginning of last season. This is just my observations in that short time. This matchup is a nightmare for mo west in a since that SC's strengths seem to be mo west's biggest weaknesses. 1. Mo west has weak corner play. The corners are not athletic enough and therefore tend to give a lot of cushion to avoid getting beat deep. They rarely make plays on the ball. And with one safety, if he gets sucked up into the line on a play action or is forced to cover a third receiver there's no help over the top. 2. Mo west's QB tends to make some poor decisions and tries to force the ball into coverage when nothing's there. Turnovers will flip the field no matter how well the D plays. 3. The receivers drop easy passes and I've even seen them run wrong routes at times. These are almost always drive killers. So the keys for a mo west win in my opinion: 1. The dline and linebackers are going to have to get pressure every play. If SC's QB has all day to sit back there they'll score at will. 2. Mo west will have to sustain long, clock chewing scoring drives relying heavily on the run. They need to finish drives with TDs, not FGs against SC. They have to keep SC's high powered offense on the sidelines as long as possible. Wesley Goins being injured has hurt the running game tremendously the last few weeks. 3. They can't get in third and long. These more times than not result in turnovers, dropped passes and errant throws. Again, just my 2 cents and that's probably about all my opinion's worth. Here's hoping for a good game tonight (and most importantly a west win)!

  9. I now realize that I am probably overreacting. What initially caused my reaction was at the time this statement was made: 1) Cherokee was behind 42-13 and it was almost halftime 2) They had just been whistled for personal foul and had a kid ejected 3) The kids and coaches on the sidelines were basically celebrating the play 4) And the ripping the helmet's off statement is not so much a big deal as telling the kids to "play dirty". I felt that they were basically promoting poor sportsmanship and telling their kids to try and injure the other team since the game was basically out of hand at that point. Again, I overreacted and apologize to anyone I offended. I would gladly delete this whole thread if I could.
  10. Obviously West. Do you have a child/friend/acquaintance involved with Cherokee High? Did you see the play in question?
  11. As I much as I hate to admit it, you're probably right about the comments being common on most sidelines. I think I am still rattled at how blatant the actual play was. And then to see kids high fiving and patting him on the back like he just made a good play. And the coaches even getting flagged themselves because they were actually irate about the call. I understand frustration, but this was ridiculous.
  12. At tonight's game with Morristown West a personal foul occurred in which a kid was ejected. This thread is not whether or not the call was good/bad/necessary but more about what happened afterwards. A friend of my child is on the color guard and they were getting in position for their halftime show when she heard a member of Cherokee's coaching staff tell some players to "play dirty, rip their helmets off". To any parents of Cherokee players, I would hope that this would alarm you that someone you trust to teach your son, not only the game of football, but little life lessons about sportsmanship and respect, is teaching your kids how to be dirty and classless. All of the parents and fans from Cherokee that I've met/seen have always been nice and respectful. You might want to check into what your coaching staff is teaching your kids. I felt the need to post this just as a FYI as I would want to know that an authority figure was teaching my child things like this. Good luck the rest of the season.
