  1. Ok so here it is 1:30 and I still can't get the image out of my head of the look on those young men's (DC players) faces after the call. The TSSAA should be ashamed that they allow this type of thing to happen. The call itself was ridiculous to start with, but in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs in the district championship game. No, I do not have a kid playing for Dyer County so I'm not a disgruntled parent trying to make excuses, but I promise you this, there will be alot more made of this than some want there to be and it will start tomorrow in the press if you know what I mean. This crew should never be allowed to call another game. I don't care if it's T-ball, to do this to a group of kids for whatever reason is bull....If I was Preston Ozment I would mail the runner-up plaque back to the TSSAA with a note saying no thanks.
  2. No matter how many times you read the same thing. It still comes back as you saying Mahaffey is the best coach in West TN. Hate to say this but Mahaffey hasn't gotten a signature win yet unless you count Brighton like others have. You are right about the whining was there for the Bolivar game... it came from BOLIVAR FANS if you go back and look! The game in Feb. gonna be fun! i dont know if he will be the best coach in west tennessee but i do believe he will get dyersburg basketball back to where it should be, and he will do it the right way. Look, didn't in any way try to get into a war of words so I'll try to simplify what I meant. As far as Mahaffey, I said he "MAY" turn out to be, not that he was now or would be soon. Further, with that statement there was no disrespect aimed at anybody. True, he has no signature wins, but I guess what I meant was that Dyersburg has seen a very positive turnaround since his arrival. Again, wasn't trying to get in a war of words, but on here I should have expected it.
  3. Read what was said one more time..."One of the best"...and yes after the Bolivar game there was alot of complaining about the officiating...perhaps you didn't hear it, but the whining was there. It wasn't a prediciton concerning Mahaffey and wasn't spoken as one, again, read it again. Hyperbole much? Or just short memory? Best game in several years, you really think this game was better than the '07 game (66-65) where one of the teams (DC) actually did come from behind in the last seconds to win? Best Coach in West TN?, wow thats a prediction. Never beaten by a better team? Where were you for the Bolivar loss? See anyone claimimg the refs stole it? What a load of hooey!
  4. Ok, the game was one of the best played between the two teams in several years. Those who know me already know I think DC has a really solid team and do what they do very well. Having said that, I think what many DC fans saw last night is simply what many Trojan fans have been seeing all year with Dyersburg. Yes, the boys program, under the watchful eye of what may turn out to be the best coach in West Tennessee in Mahaffey, is on the rebound so to speak. With no 'superstar' the team has bonded together and they will get after your a.. for 32 minutes. Make no mistake about it, DC is a very talented team that didn't play very well and still came away with the win, so congrats to the fellas. However, by the end of the season when the district tourney rolls around, which team will look forward to playing Dyersburg? Probably not very many. For the many wishing to crucify the referees, please get over it. Over the past four years since McCord arrived, and I mean this, I can't remember one game, not even one, when DC lost a game (there hasn't been very many) when it was because the other team was better. It seems it's always somebody's fault (meaning the striped shirts). Seriously, I can't help but wonder if Dyersburg would have won last night, it would have been all because of the officiating. Hogwash!
  5. If the game is played at the same location as last week it will be Halle Field. Not a terrible field and yes, though Denzell Wilson (#2) and No.5 (can't remember his name) may not look menacing, they are hard to bring down, especially Wilson. Though really thinking Dyersburg and Crockett would be playing this week,it didn't happen. In the end, I think the Cavaliers will advance, but I promise it will not be an easy day at the office. Good luck CC.
  6. Dyersburg struggles once again against the Indians, losing its fourth straight and five of the last six. Oh man so much is going wrong and the downward spiral continues. On three occasions in the first 8 minutes of the game the Trojans had the ball deep in Indian territory but came away with nothing. A sputtering offense, way too many missed tackles, and a solid effort from North Side was the difference. By the way, the quarterback doing the damage against Dyersburg was freaking freshman for pete's sake. Better stop now as the blood pressure is at an all-time high, but a win against Haywood will get Dyersburg in the playoffs. Seriously, the playoffs? By the way, Haywood lost in overtime to Westview and put 37 points up against the Chargers. Dyersburg managed 7. Though its a hard pill to swallow, but a 4-6 record is on the horizon if alot of this and that doesn't come together in the next week.
  7. Congrats Milan, you have a fine football team. Dyersburg played better than expected, but the Bulldogs were simply better on both sides of the ball. Should go deep in the playoffs but being undefeated only makes the bullseye larger. Could be wrong but I believe reports of the Trojans being out of the playoffs are a bit premature. A win over Haywood County in the season finale should get Dyersburg in as a wildcard, but at this point who knows. Hopefully Dyersburg will continue to work hard and play out the last two regular season games in fine fashion. The offense has sputtered along as of late but hopefully things will get better. Maybe, maybe not. In any case a good football game tonight and yes, it was closer than the 35-7 score, at least through these eyes. Stay the course Trojans and best of luck in the playoffs Bulldogs. Go Trojanz!!
  8. What a game it was. Dyersburg certainly had chances to win the game, but give credit to Crockett County for pulling out the victory. Often times we say to hold your heads high in defeat, it doesn't help right after the game. Dyersburg played as hard as possible, but tonight the Cavs were just a little better. Yes, it came down to the fourth quarter and I really thought the team with the ball last would win. Major props to Crockett County for coming up with the big play when they needed it. After the game I was impressed with how P.A. Pratt gave Dyersburg so much credit. Sure it would have been easy for P.A. to glorify the win with sideways comments, but he knew he faced a solid football team. The road ahead will get tougher for Dyersburg and Crockett, but give credit where credit is due, Crockett earned the win. There should be no excuses, they earned it on the field. Two well-coached football teams gave it everything they had and tonight the Cavs were just a play or two better so congrats. Dyersburg will be fine and must rebound next week against a better Obion County squad. Best of luck to both squads the rest of the season and I hope they meet again in the playoffs. Great game fellas!
  9. Many have waited on this game since the season started. I never get on this site and talk trash and today will be no different. This game will hopefully go down as a classic. Two good football teams going head-to-head in what will be perhaps the biggest game in West Tennessee this week. Yes, Crockett County has a fine football team and the Cav's will be ready to go, but make no mistake about it, so will Dyersburg. Last year the 3-OT game was one I will never forget and hopefully this game will be talked about for some time to come as well. The No.2-ranked squad against the No.9 team will have plenty of fireworks and even a couple of surprises I'm sure. Good luck to both teams and last but certainly not least......ROCK ON TROJANS!
  10. Very impressive performance tonight from the Black and Gold... Ripley returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and from then on D'burg pretty much dominated. Xavier had over 170 yards and three TD's and the defense, led by Lyons, Maze, T.O., Jennings and the rest wreaked havoc on the Tigers from start to finish. The Tigers had 5 (maybe 6) turnovers and only had 90 yards of total offense while Dyersburg had over 400. Don't want to get too far ahead of things, but against the run the Trojan defense could be the best in years. Brown had another impressive night at quarterback, though he didn't throw for alot of yards the kid can sure run the offense and it seems as if the kids up front have become believers in his ability. Alford played the majority of the second half though. Overall, a very impressive win in a game that was over long before many predicted it would be, including myself. Go Trojans!
  11. From where I stood this is what I saw... The 2-point conversion for DC was seriously messed up by the striped shirts. It was as if they had never seen it done before. That was wrong. The inadvertent whistle on the kickoff proved to be costly. Not sure if it came from the stands or from one of the refs, but it proved costly all the same. However, DC's touchdown on Dyersburg's side of the field on a pass was just as bad. Those that know me know I wouldn't say it if I hadn't seen it, but the receiver was clearly out of bounds. Should have been pass interference on D'burg, but not a touchdown. There was a man there from TSSAA that I was talking to and he agreed the player was out of bounds. In any case, terrible calls that helped one squad and hurt the other, but hey it was the first game for everybody. As far as the comment about the chain gang, I was on the other end of the field and didn't see that one. Hopefully the tape from the game will be seen by the officials and help in future games.
  12. A new coach has been hired....see Wednesday's Gazette.
  13. Having been there to witness it, about the only word I can find to decsribe the entire week is awesome. Residents from both the city and county have alot to be proud of, and as far as the DC baseball team goes, congrats on a magical season that ended with a state title. Entering the tournament as the No. 1 team in the state is one thing, leaving as the Class AA state champions is something else. Again, though I for one am glad the week is over (I had to run around much more than most), it was a great experience and one I am proud to have been able to cover. The championship game is one I will never forget.
