  1. what has mccallie done that makes them a state powehouse this year? Who have they played? LFO? Braircrest? i mean really im not saying that Powell has beaten anyone either what im saying is that this is probably the first real test for either team this season. And what has watts done that makes u guys so down on him....? I'm not saying that i disagree with what ur saying i just wanna know why ur so down on a kid who has played great over the past two years. At any rate i refuse to predict that powell will win this game but i will say its going to be a lot closer then u guys think
  2. bbs this is just a serious question i have a lot of respect for the history of the halls high school program but what makes u think that halls really had a chance to beat central this year? I mean the matchup just does not favor the devils the bobcats are built around speed and quickness which is something the red devils dont have a lot of from what i know. At any rate i can't see any way that halls doesn't destroy Gibbs (who i know very little about) this week
  3. dont know what you were watching but powell and mccallie was a tie at best for mccallie both offenses moved the ball both defenses struggled a bit but i think that powell won that scrimmage.... now that being said neither team showed much and this friday will be a much different game. The big blue have a heck of a football team and Powell is pretty talented as well. I really think that both teams will have problems on the defensive side of the ball in this matchup Watts is a playmaker and so is coleman so its gonna be fun to watch. This one will probably come down to the wire i would say that this one is decided by 10 points or less either way
  4. I think Hightower is a pretty good little back, but LC got dominated along the line last night. When Powell had their 1's in Hightower had 12 carries for -9 yards. When Powell went to the 2's and he had some room to run, he showed he had pretty good speed and quickness.
  5. id like to agree with u goody but man i dunno after the way we played last week im not too quick to pick us in any game lol.
  6. and by the way if wanna talk about coaches not teaching ur kids class lets talk about the webb coaches. Our LB's were getting cut in C gap which is outside the tackle box...not legal our pulling guards were getting cut on counter...not legal. And the sickest thing i ever saw our wedgebuster got cut on kickoff which is just plain dirty forget that its not legal.
  7. easy chick we never thought it was gonna be handed to us but we did under estimate the spartans. For Cody and Lee not to shake hands after the game wasn't the best thing they could have done but i can promise it wasn't because they weren't man enough to admit that we got beat it wsa because they were hurting like all of us were. We didn't play like we are capable of and we were disappointed in ourselves. This is gut check time really early in the season and congrats to Webb on a big time big time W. I would like to say that Cody and Lee were in the team meeting after the game so i dont know who said that they weren't there but i promise u they were. And finally take nothing away from the coaching staff at Powell High School. They are some of the finest men that your ever likely to meet and they preach and preach to us that our character comes ahead of our talent and our football goals. They are more interested in us as men then they are as football players. Now I'm not saying that there aren't discipline issues that need to be addressed but i can assure you that those problems are in no way a reflection of the coaching staff or the job that they do.
  8. wow webb was impressive. I mean i knew they had some track kids on their d but they were just flying around. I walked away very impressed. That being said the db did not take it away from gal. He dropped it and the db caught the tip but id say 92 made up for that with his D. I dont think webb rolled up 300-350 yards either but they got enough obviously. Lay off of Hanson too he missed a pressure kick, hes young and the game was on the line......he did hit the extra point before the penalty and would have kicked it from 5 back but the holder called fire. Bottom line is a lot of Powell's guys came out thinking we were gonna roll and we got hit in the mouth and hit in the mouth and hit in the mouth. Well Webb definately bloodied our noses and now its time to see if we truly are a great team or a team that stays on the canvas when they get knocked down. Next game Lenior City after that mccallie then maryville then farragut thats a heck of a schedule looks like these cocky panthers got grounded lets see how they respond
  9. Powell almost beat Maryville in the playoffs when maryville plays their best ball that was the man's point. Last year we came closer to beating them then anyone except for melrose... when was the last time any Webb team even came close to beating a team like the rebels. Oh and by the way thats the rebels of maryville not that terrible west team you beat up on last week. That team that almost beat maryville last year is almost all back with the exception of huber and bruhin. You people picking Webb to win tonight are gonna be real disappointed on that long ride home tonight.
  10. ok iloveu, ur gonna get ur mouth shut in a big way tomorrow night my friend. Cody's soph. he played tailback and reciever (not his natural position) Cody's JR. year he played HB and SOME QB this year its his show and u guys get the full dose of the kid who made maryville's d look bad at times last year. And for u to say that jay courtney and brandon thrower are NOTHING proves that you have no idea what this powell team is all about. Your comment about Webb being the only team in the state that works on the basics is completely moronic and ridiculous and you really should never be able to post on coacht again until you get some knowledge of the game we all know and love. good luck stopping those two guys who are NOTHING and Josh Huffaker who by the way rushed for 100+ on you guys last year. Now shut up, sit back and watch what happens, and when the dust settles you can think,"man i bet i had something to do with that i should have kept my mouth shut."
  11. Hey roadrunner i know you think that your roadrunners should be getting all the respect in the world right now cause they beat red bank but i hate to break it to you hunny red bank isn't very good and you guys beat them by three points on a fumble recovery. Just a friendly reminder that if you want me to respect you or your team they gotta earn it. This is a serious question though all i hear from u this week is how AE has a kicker and Fulton doesn't. I dont know what happened, you mind telling me how AE ended up with 6 points against red bank?
  12. well Jordan Lakin play a lot of football for the panters Lee Smith and Justin Galyon start both ways at DE and TE although the TE's are not in on every play. John Bruhin goes both ways along the lines. other then that i dont know of a lot of guys who start both ways but most of the guys who start for us are in the rotation on both sides.
  13. fulton gets AE in EVERY go round this year. AE simply does not have the offense or the defense to stay with Fulton this year end of discussion.
  14. earn some. One fumble recovery against a red bank team we beat 21-0 doesn't do the trick.
  15. Matt French can not even be mentioned in the same breath as Ryan Walker. West is flat out awful. Yea its the first dang game whatever west is terrible mark it down Matt French will not roll off those kinda numbers against our d this year. Webb may have had some injuries but Lee is the first or second best TE in the state and in the top ten in DE's. I promise u Webb wasn't missing that kind of talent. West is not even close to powell so dont feed me some line about french picking on west. I know Webb is going to be tough and they may be the favorite because they have beaten us two years in a row but this one IMO will be a little more onesided then you guys seem to think.
  16. well i would like to say in regards to the AE line splits i play LB and didn't feel like they were that big i know i didn't come through unblocked all night.... on to the matter at hand...Webb's backfield last year was better then it is this year. U dont replace Ryan Walker dont know why no one has mentioned that yet. Last season Powell's Lee Smith did not play at all in this game that hurts big time on both sides of the ball, Powell's Justin White did not play forcing Jay Courtney to play out of position and forcing myself into a starting role at SS that i was not capable of handling. I know I know "if ifs and buts were candy and nuts... injuries happen in this game. Heres my biggest point does anyone remember who started at QB for the panthers last year in this game????? Cody Watts had big plays but SR Wesley Roop started and split time. Cody is a great athlete but not as big of a threat at HB as he is at QB. Im not going to say that Powell is gonna roll, we're not. That wing-t is brutal and Webb's backs are very talented and will take advantage of a crack so its gonna be a good one to watch in Powell on Friday. But i have to stick to my boys and say that my defense holds them up enough that cody leads us to victory in this one.
  17. after playing both teams preseason i can honestly say that the roadrunners dont have a chance in this game. They are having a down year and i thought Fulton was too but the Falcons showed me a lot last Friday. Falcons by AT LEAST two tds.
  18. well i have to go with red bank in this one. From my experience they are the more physical team. As one of the dad's of one of the kids on our team said " i wish we could put every one of them in a suitcase and take em to every game." referring to AE. If we played AE every week we'd be 10-0 no problem. Red Bank is a pretty good little team but at the same time i believe we beat them something like 21-0 so either way neither one of these teams are on the same level as Powell but ill take Red Bank in a close one.
  19. powell has got some pretty good size. Jordan Lakin 5'11 225, Ryan Key 6'1 205, Justin Lamb 6'3 205. not bad size but as a group hasn't proven a lot on the friday night level.
  20. if this if that whatever roadrunner. Ur boys couldnt do anything to stop cody last night bottom line. And ur right both guys did fall down on that play cody tripped over ur boy after he ran him over. That collision wasn't a tie i promise. And I'll call him THE best player on the field last night cause he was. Theres not even a question as to who the best player was last night. your right had the roadrunners been able to tackle cody he wouldn't have been the highlight, well news flash if we would have scored more points then maryville last year we would have beaten them. Wrapping up is part of the game and watts is difficult to tackle that is part of what makes him great. As for ur comment about him not being able to spin in real games, two points...he only spun one time and the jamboree is a real game for one quarter i was out there and when ur out there it feels like friday nights ur not thinking about just getting through it u want to win. The roadrunners are a solid team but on this night cody watts showed that he would not be stopped period and he made a whole lot of people believe everything that ive been saying on these boards for a long time. Good luck roadrunners u guys are a class act i didn't hear one word of trash talking and i didn't see a single cheap shot. The roadrunners are for real and are gonna be a force in 3a football this year. Good luck to u and again if theres any update on the injured young man i would love to hear it.
  21. well powell handled the roadrunners like i thought they would. Watts looked amazing but the roadrunners looked good. If anyone has any word at all on the young man who was injured in the powell ae game please let me know my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
  22. well webb handled the devils pretty well tonight but they looked like they will fill that fourth playoff spot nicely especially since carter isn't around to beat them late in the year anymore. That rain last year completely took cody's feet out of that game. If thats in dry weather cody runs all over halls like he will this year. And Powell is far from a two man show or one man show as ive said before but ull find that out soon enough as for now i say bring on the spartans one game at a time boys.
  23. thats my boy prowler we gotta stand up for our boys. Listen hunny powell would destroy ur beavers even worse this year then we did last year. And as for ur comment about powell being a three or four seed every year and nothing more. Powell has played central with the winner of that game being the two seed the past three years. Now it is true that powell has come up on the short end of that exchange all three years however third place in region 3 4a would be good for first in any other 4a region in the state. But ull see just how elite powell can be if we come to play every friday night this year.
  24. ok primetimeplayer time to go to school son. Powell is not built around one player we have TWO absolutely amazing offensive threats in Watts and that Lee Smith kid who commited to that school in knoxville ummmmm oh yea the university of tennessee. Add to that Jay Courtney and Josh Huffaker running the ball and Brandon Thrower also in the passing game. Not to mention some kids stepping up like Jonathan Thibodaux and Craig Shaver. Thats not a one man show. And talk about us stepping up.... I guess its a good thing the carter green hornets moved out of our region since they seemed to keep ur devils out of the playoffs every year.
  25. I've been involved in the McCallie camp since my soph. year because i joined late my freshman year. Generally speaking the team that finishes with the best record at the camp is crowned "camp champs" it doesn't really mean anything just that we had a very successful camp. I'll tell u this much though the Powell McCallie game in week three will likely end up being one of the games of the year thats a really talented group of kids they have up there on that campus. And i also would like to thank everyone at McCallie for everything they do putting that camp together.
