  3. Who knows why they gave a pay raise. We all know there's an abundance of bodies willing to umpire. Umpires already make a killing too. It's not like umpires have anything else going on, umpiring is their main gig, right? They ought to be grateful for any payment since they get to spend the majority of their spring time evenings away from the wife and kids. That's payment enough, right? I like Devilsden idea, let's petition the TSSAA to get this started ASAP! I think the umps should not only pay the schools, but the TSSAA as well! Money, money, monnnnneyyy! Moneeyy!
  4. Dickson Co. was impressive the whole tournament. I think they trailed only one time the whole tourney, that was against Siegel in the championship game. They lose 4 seniors, including their dominant pitcher Brooklin Lee. Those 4 seniors made it the AAA championship game all 4 years, winning the title twice. Very impressive. I know Brooklin was the pitcher all four years and I think the other 3 were either starters or at least regulars all 4 years. Heck of a run for those girls!
  5. I believe Hendersonville ended Henry County's season, not Clarksville. Clarksville did have Henry's number this year. Dickson Co. advances again today, beating Stewart's Creek 2-0. From what I have seen, I would put my money on a Siegel/Dickson championship.
  6. Dickson can do it all. Swing it, throw it and catch it. 4th consecutive trip to State, so they've got the experience and confidence. Confidence is huge in high school sports. They got a shut down pitcher they'll ride the whole way. I caught one Clarksville game this year, they look to be tough out too. Nothing on any of the other teams. But, it's high school kids, so anything could happen. Looks to be decent weather for the week, maybe a shower here or there. I just wish the TSSAA would come up with a better schedule. Too hard to get to the games in the middle of the week and middle of the day. Feel bad for the parents of kids from West and East TN. If your kid goes all the way, that's almost a whole week off from work and a week's worth of outrageous hotel prices.
  7. Big Congrats to Sycamore on their first Regional title! Way to go War Eagles!
  8. Coach Dunn is first class, for sure.
  9. I think I saw it was Lewis County.
  10. Dickson didn't sneak up on someone like I hoped. Best of luck to the other teams. Very tough district.
  11. It's like that in a lot places in every sport and in every age group. I've been attending a lot more youth and school games lately and it is really appalling to see and hear. I was at my niece's 8 year old basketball game a few weeks back. A lot of the kids can barely dribble, looks more like herding cats than a basketball game. Parents were livid with the refs for the majority of the game. They foul constantly, travel every other time they touch the ball, and these people were giving it to these two poor souls that were just trying to make that game possible and earn a measly $20. It is really, really sad.
  12. Hate to hear that for the boys at E. Hickman. Wonder if Ray Ragan, his assistant, is interested in being a HC again?
  13. I don't recall a Dickson team ever being this bad. I have my theories on what the problem is, not the coach, but I'll keep them to myself and not air it on the world wide web. I have feeling the issues behind my theory won't be there next year.
  14. Ouch. Tough year for Dickson. Maybe they can sneak up on some district foes before the end, or better yet, sneak up on them in the tourney. Crazier things have happened, right?
  15. This district used to get a lot of chatter on here. Just glancing at some of the scores, I'm going to say Hickman from the south and Mont. Central out of the north. This has got to be the most spread out district in the State. Montgomery to Lewis, Fairview to Camden. That some miles right there.
  16. I know for sure Ravenwood beat DC 4-3 last night. I think it was the exact same outcome and score from Monday night as well. Game 3 tonight at RW. How about this weather?? I think we were having ice, sleet and snow this week last year.

  18. Sounds like Creek Wood will have a vacancy before long.
  19. Sarcasm wasn't the intent, had no point other than there is a need for officials. I we'll aware of bad officials, been one myself a time or two(in more than one sport). Some want to be a part of the problem, others want to be a part of the solution. Those on the solution side should go to tssaa.org and give it a look. If there's more than enough bodies to fill the games, then we can start talking about evaluations. Hard to put a standard on something no one wants to do.
  20. A lot of highly knowledgeable people on here, the TSSAA sure could you use you guys/gals. TSSAA is in serious need of officials in all sports. Please go to TSSAA.ORG and get signed up.
  21. A lot of you guys know a lot about officiating basketball. TSSAA is in great need of refs in all sports. Please list your name and your location. I know a lot of the assigners and will get you two in touch.
  22. I don't have an opinion on this golden bear, just cold hard facts that are on video. Maybe bias was the wrong word, delusional might be better. School should have taken action and removed the kid from any athletics for the remainder of the school year and when they didn't, the TSSAA should have stepped up. Kid and coach may be good people, but good people make mistakes everyday and they normally have to face the consequences. The administrators set a horrible example, especially those that reverse the silly one game suspension.
  23. Anyone saying this was not intentional is obviously biased for one reason or another. He clearly knew where the ref was standing and clearly prepared for impact. That looked nothing like someone unknowningly running into someone or something. This is down right pathetic. Someone said something about "was there a bad call?" I don't care if the ref called a doube dribble on the kid the play before, that is never acceptable on any football field. That ref's livelihood was put in jeporady by some teenager with an anger issue. I can't believe some of the school officials offer up the excuse that this kid gets A' s and prays. Like smart religious kids never did no wrong. If I'm a ref at a future Glencliff game the coach starts complaing about a no call, I turn and say "the kid gets A's and prays before the game, coach, he couldn't have done something wrong" and turn and smile. I wonder if the officials have enough organization to boycott, maybe at least Glencliff games, to get their message across. This is a huge smack in their faces by Glencliff and the TSSAA. I'd like to spit in Benard's face right about now. Especially since they pulled this crap by suspending the ref. The TSSAA looks lame and pathetic. Sad day for TN high school athletics.
  24. I seriously doubt the privates will form their own body if they do a split. There's roughly 40 private schools in the state, most of them are centered around urban areas, that's not enough to form their own association. I guess it would depend on if the TSSAA would allow its' members to play the privates, probably not. Private schools would have to travel great distances to get any depth to their schedule. I also highly doubt it would cause a mass migration of the talent going to privates, no more so than it is today. You don't just flip a switch and form a high school athletic association. If there were a split, I think it might benefit officials more than any one. Privates, well at least some, would be willing/able to pay officials more and thus may make the TSSAA up their pay to keep officials. I say open it up everywhere, let Johnny from Lewis Co. go to Maryville or wherever it is he wants to go. Adults are making it abudantly clear to kids that sports is the most important part of their high school career anyway, so why not? I hope they don't split, but find some way to make it better for all parties involved.
