OK, that argument is not valid. So what if there are 317 D 1 teams. How many are in the area? I'd say maybe 20-25. How is he going to play at a school say in North Dakota? As to other people...From previous posts, people are saying that he could walk on at some schools. I think when people bring up the argument of whether a player is D 1 worthy they are talking about actually earning a scholarship. When you walk on you don't play. There are extremely rare occasions such as Moody at Kansas, but there is a lot more to that than you know. So Parshall probably couldn't earn a scholarship at a D 1 school. Maybe in two years, but not now. Could he walk on at a small D 1 school? Of course, that's not a stretch. But he wouldn't play. Anyways, the reason I'm on here...is Caleb's hamstring alright?

Usually the only teams that are happy and content with polls are the ones that are number 1. And polls do matter in college basketball, they give the committee something to go by throughout the year as far as who was strong at one game and who was weak at another game. That's the main reason there are 2 polls in college. And if the voters are thought to be biased then they're replaced.

Yeah, Gerald Green is no 6'9". He probably is at 6'7" though. He is one amazing player. Depending on what source you go to he's the number one player ahead of Louis Williams. It's really a toss-up in my opinion, but like gomab said, Williams is younger.

A bench player is just filling in for the starter to catch a breath. Most coaches realize that, but they also expect the bench player to be mistake-free. That's not really too much to ask though. The coach doesn't expect them to start running the offense and putting on a show. I think coaches get frustrated when a player comes in off of the bench and tries to impress people and makes a stupid mistake. Can you really blame a coach though?

I think in most cases prep schools are good. I haven't really heard of any problems with prep schools playing high schools, but that would be left up to the state to decide. In most cases a prep school is a very good option for kids that struggle with grades or maturity. I don't know how I feel about kids that go to prep schools just for another year of basketball. If they're not ready to play D-1 then go JUCO. There are plenty of schools that make their teams from JUCO transfers, you mentioned Cincy, Oklahoma is another team that lives off of them. A player like Brandon Rush is a perfect fit for a prep school. There is no question that he is ready to play for any D-1 school, but his grades are terrible and his maturity level is questionable. He transferred from his high school in Kansas City, MO and went to a school in North Carolina hoping to get his grades up. His grades weren't even good enough for JUCO, so it was either prep or go straight for the NBA. A lot of that had to do with the mistakes his brothers made. JaRon left for the NBA and is now washed up overseas. Then it was discovered that JaRon and Kareem took bribes from AAU coaches. So I think he just wanted to make sure that didn't happen to him. He has definately matured since I used to watch him in KC, so I think he's on the right track. So I guess depending on the situation prep schools are a wise decision.

This isn't college basketball. Polls are meaningless. There is no selection commitee in high school basketball. I think you see inconsistency in high school polls because, frankly the writers don't care. They just go on reputation and records.

A coach has to be good at drawing up plays for sure, but the most important thing in my opinion is whether or not he can get his players motivated. It's a lot easier at the high school level since the kids are younger, but in college and pros is where you have to be special. Another factor is making halftime adjustments. But to answer the question, YES of course a good coach matters.

South Gwinnett actually plays Arlington Country Day on Friday. It's going to be on ESPN2. South Gwinnett has 2 guys, Louis Williams and Mike Mercer, who have signed with Georgia. Most NBA scouts think Williams will go straight to the pros though. It should be a good game though. Gwinnett has the best high school backcourt in the nation with Williams and Mercer.

I wasn't at the game, but I'm actually more shocked at what I'm reading on here. You guys need to grow up. And I'm talking to Temple fans and Grace fans. You may not think you're ruining your testimonies because your names are protected, but people will come on here and read the things you say when they see that there are 5000 posts in under an hour. So the testimony of your schools are kind of taking a hit. Just drop the whole thing and move on, this is beyond ridiculous.

I had a chance to see Vashon from St. Louis play last weekend. They are insane. I've seen a couple of the other teams. The ones from GA mainly. But Vashon was running like no other putting up monster dunks every other time down the floor.

I agree that he's not on those player's level. But I still say he could play for a couple of SEC teams in his Junior/Senior years. That's not really a stretch. No, he wouldn't be a 4-year starter, but those are few and far between these days.

Grace Golden Eagles let me answer for you because I'm pretty sure this is what you're going to say...'No, but it got us a silver ball. Temle didn't get a silver ball did they? We went further than Temple so that makes us better.' Even though Temple already had a silver ball, and a couple gold ones.

I probably see more high-school games than anybody should. And I don't just stay around Tennessee and Georgia. I have seen SEC players in person. I've seen Big 12 players in person. I've seen NBA draftees in person. Caleb Skogen could play SEC basketball. And if you're talking about Louis Williams, he's actually number 2. Gerald Green from Gulf Shores, TX is number 1. I've seen both play and Green is better. In fact I've watched #4 Brandon Rush since he was in middle school. You might know his brothers Kareem and JaRon. I've seen #8 Tyler Hansbrough around 10 times. So I have a pretty good idea of what is out there.

When I think of Caleb Skogen playing SEC basketball I'm not thinking Kentucky or Florida, I'm thinking Ole Miss or maybe Vandy. There is no doubt that he could play for either of those teams. He wouldn't start his freshman or sophomore year, but come on, there are some McDonald's All-Americans that don't start their freshman years. Another argument I've heard is that he's too skinny. That really doesn't make a difference at all. I've seen plenty of players that are just as skinny, if not skinnier, than Caleb. Besides if a coach wanted him to gain muscle they could always send him to the weight room. But why are we arguing about this point? He already signed.

I don't mean to nitpick, but Jake won in 2003...But anyways you make a good point. I wouldn't say Xavier is hands down Mr. Basketball by any means. I actually think it hurts him that he's 6-8. It's rare to have a big man win Mr. Basketball in any classification, much less Class A. They hold that against the player even more since the number of big men is so small. They have consistently voted for the playmakers. Xavier may be able to shoot well, but I'd like to see him run point against a state quality team. I don't see that happening.
