  1. Looks like most of the region 7 schools will be there. Go to tssaa.org and click on wrestling schedules at the top of the page. It takes a while to look at each school individually but it works.
  2. Pack lost in the finals at Overton as well and is still ranked sixth
  3. The new rankings are up. There are some very intresting rankings. I guess they didnt get the results from the Overton Tournament. The middle weights in D1 Might look a little different if they had. [Edited by kjfan on 12-12-02 7:27P]
  4. Thanks so much for the intelligent input. Which "weak team" is going to win Hound? What "weak" wrestler should we look for in each weight class to somehow find the strength to win ? As I recall there were several kids in this tournament last year that went on to place in the state tournament. [Edited by kjfan on 12-12-02 10:42A]
  5. What teams will be at the McGavock Tournament This weekend? How about some predictions on who will win @ each weight and which school will win the overall Tournament.

    upsets

MJ2006 if it were bird 6 pack 1 it wouldnt be an upset would it??
  7. Does anyone have the results from the Harpeth Tournament??
  8. Who did Cochran from Brentwood wrestle in the finals? What weight was Josh bennet of Dickson wrestling ?
  9. Jamie Wilkerson of Lipscomb Pinned Josh Johnson (Antioch) in the semis @ 152 Jenkins of MLK Pinned Latham of Overton in the semis @152 Jenkins pinned Wilkerson in the finals @152 Wilkerson is a Freshman.I think he will surprise a lot of people this year. At 145 Coffin from MLK Beat Trivett (?) of Mt. Juliet
  10. They wrestle Overton and MLK Tomorrow. Both of these teams have some top notch kids JP2 and everyone else will find out how good (or not good)they are then.
  11. Seperate, dont seperate, I dont care. The cream of the crop in both D1 and D2 by and large will wrestle each other through out the course of the season perhaps not team VS team but individually at tournaments during the season. Every now and then you have a dream matchup that doesnt happen (Keller vs Simpson)but sooner or later provided they are both good enough (likely) and at the same weight (not likely) they will see each other in the NCAA finals. That said, I have a kid that is a D1 wrestler he has wrestled some really good D1 and really good D2 wrestlers he's won a few and lost a few of those matches. He didnt give a rats behind what division that kid wrestled in when he won/lost to that kid. So it degrades the championship to have two champions at each weight class. So what. We're talking high school sports here not world domination.Let The kids wrestle. Heck most of these kids end up wrestling each other during the off season any way . My son wrestled one of the top D2 kids in the finals at the state freestyle championships this past summer. So dont tell me that these kids cant wrestle each other. It happens all summer long.If the kids really want a match to happen it will. It might be in some dimly lit wrestling room with no spectators instead of McKenzie arena but it will happen. The kid that won will know he won and, when you are a wrestler do you really care if anyone else knows???????? [Edited by kjfan on 11-21-02 9:24P]

    Region 6

ML king @ MCHS takedown Tournament Miller 121 to 130 first place (I Think this is the weight class he wrestled) Jenkins 141 to 150 first place Coffin 151 to 160 second place Byrd 161 to 170 first place
  13. I also noticed that you have Ingle from FRA ranked. he finished third in region six at 145 last year. You dont have Jenkins From ML King listed and he finished second in region six last year at the same weight.?? You have Tim Pack Listed at 160 (another region six guy) while all four of the state qualifiers at this weight are back this year and are nowhere to be found in this poll. Whats up there?
  14. Ryan Scott Mcallie. Three time medalist two time state champ and just a Junior this year. He will probably be a four time state champ and most certainly will be a five time medalist.
  15. Jemario Gordon (189 Whites Creek) Graduated Bennett (DicksonCo) Looked closer to 160 than 145 at the MCHS take town Tournament Cochran ( Brentwood) was wrestling at 152 at the Tullahoma tournament.

    Region 7

Does anyone know who the winners were in the advanced division at Montgomery Central on Saturday. I know Miller,Jenkins, and Byrd from ML King in Nashville all won and Bennett from Dickson won as well. If you have any more winners please post them.

    Region 6

The Tennbest weekly preseason rankings are out and both teams are on the list. FRA at 11 and Overton at 21. I wonder where some of the wrestlers are going to be at weight wise. I feel that in the lower weight classes Overton will have the upper hand, but in the middle weights FRA has the advantage. UNLESS Drinkwine and Brewster have bumped up more than one weight class each which would make that too close to call. I believe that FRA should squeak by in the upper weights. All in all it would be a very intresting match up but I did not see a match scheduled between the two when I checked FRA's schedule. Anbody else have any info on which weight classes some of the wrestlers at either of these schools will be wrestling ???
  18. I think it depends on who fills the weight classes. Most of the kids from last year will move up at least one weight maybe two, so it would be hard to say until we find out what weight class most of these kids will be in.

    Region 6

I was at the Army wrestling clinic at harding academy this weekend, and saw several wrestlers from different region 6 schools. The kids I saw looked to be much improved. There were about 8 Overton Kids at the clinic and they all looked like they had been working pretty hard over the summer. I still think FRA has a chance to take the region 6 title this year, but it looks like Overton is going to be the team to beat.

    Army Camp

The camp at harding academy was very good. There were 50 to 60 experienced wrestlers in attendance and several state medalist such as Ray Dunning and Ryan Scott. there were several other top kids out of MBA AND Ryan. A lot of the top wrestlers out of regions 5,6,and 7 were also in attendance. There was also an outstanding middle school clinic attended by roughly the same number of kids. Coach Barbee, Phillip Simpson and the Army Coaching Staff did a great job.Coach Gabriel (Overton) Coach Simpson (MBA) Coach Dunning (Glencliff)and several other coaches were on hand to help out with the kids.
  21. Brentwood High has been omitted in the selections

    Region 6

There are a few others that I would mention, Johnson from Antioch placed third @ state @ 152 last year he should be pretty good this year. I know that he did a lot of wrestling in the off season. Hodge from NCS@135 is a pretty talented kid. Every 160# state qualifier from region 6 will be back. Vanderloop from Hillsboro was 1st in the region last year followed by Byrd of MLK and I think Martin of Overton was third aand Mitchell from McGavockwas fourth but I could have those two reversed. 160 should be a fun weight class to watch in region 6 this year if they all come back at the same weight.Valentine fromlipscomb seemed to be pretty decent last year @ 171. I think all 5 of the kids that qualified for state from MLK Miller@119 Donahue @125 Coffin @140 Jenkins @145 and Byrd @160 will repeat as state qualifiers again I know that a few of them were working out with the local wrestling club in Nashville most of the spring. If I'm not mistaken that Coffin Kid got his hand broke at one of the workouts and I know he had to spend a little time on the mend.(rumor has it he put on quite a few pounds while he was healing some kids say it is muscle and some say it could be pizza.)

    Region 6

Who are some of the better wrestlers coming back this year in region six? We all know the Overton guys, who else? there has to be more to this region than just Overton.there are eighteen schools in this region.Lets hear about some of the other quality wrestlers to look for this year.

    Region 6

While Overton has dominated region 6 over the past few years,I think that with the graduation of 6 of 11 state qualifiers they will probably be in a rebuilding year. FRA has 7 state qualifiers returning.Overton, Hillsboro and ML King each have 5. Hills boro should pick up some quality kids from the middle school programs that feed their school. The same can be said for Overton. ML King can't rely on that many middle school kids moving up this year because they did not have a middle school team last year due to budget cuts. FRA however has a strong in house middle school program and should field a strong team top to bottom. I think if any one is going to take the top spot from Overton this year it will probably be FRA. With that said who are some of the individul wrestlers to look for in Region 6 this year? Who will win this region at each weight class this year and which of those wrestlers (if any)will win at state?
