JoeWillie has watched this thread with interest all week and just dropped by to say I wish it was practical to see this game. Greasers vs Socs, always a battle. Growing up a Greaser my hearts with GB in this one but my head says Grace and home field will likely come out on top. Hard for 1A teams to compete with big linemen, solid running game and decent passing attack as well. Throw in traveling and the hill's pretty steep, not that Grace can come in overconfident. Good luck to both teams; both respectable and formidable programs. I hope the winner goes home pleased to have won over a great opponent and the loser goes home knowing they beat me tonight but they'll remember me tomorrow. Take your best clean shots on the field guys, shake hands and get on with the remainder of the season. Undoubtedly one of the premier games of East Tennessee. Wish I could be there.

Just trying to stir up some support for the boys. With apologies to OP and his thread maybe they'll be a purple storm after Friday night. Hixson game is just to big not to have some excitment on these threads. I expect to see Mac the gunslinger at his best in this game. He plum faked me right outta my seat last week. This coach is the real deal and Marion is on a mission. Just hope he tightens up that defense soon. Last Friday night don't count much. No disrespect to Sequatchie but they give us a lot of help on getting that particular shutout, can't count on that type help too often.

Naw that ain't it. We've just had a bad case of weeble-wobbles for the past few years. Our weeble finally righted itself and I reckon most posters are just a little nervous hoping it won't tilt again soon. I think the team put that behind them the last eleven minutes at Hixson. That one just got away and like any fish story it was huge. They'll be fine from here on into the playoffs. Game coming up Friday is big too. Region game with playoff implications. I guess purple posters will show up eventually. Till then I'm using this nondemoninational thread. Make a post on the Marion thread and your ears ring with echos for minutes after.

Alright, here's the untimate insult to all those purple warrior nonposters and I know they're out there. I'm gonna ask a Marion County, non thread related question on a Old Pirate Pittsburg thread. Purplepastry, why aren't those Marion folks posting anything to keep their thread on the durned first page? Twice I've dragged it back for them and it's already gone again.

I'm sure it ain't but Roy is my Hero. He's unquestionably the smartest poster on coacht. There's pure gold in his posts. He always reduces this game to its purest, simplest form and pokes fun at all us experts while doing so. He is a bunch of intelligent mess.

Old Pirate Marion was on receiving end of some terrible calls last week as well. One wild play stopped too quick. Several sideline warnings also. Are you saying Pirates got expected raw deal from officials or were singled out for some special severe calls to help SM win? One is typical, other is worthy of investigation. Just curious.

Something happened along about 2008 with the 2A TSSAA classifications having 9 regions and either 2010 or 2011 things got hosed up again. 1A Regular season for Marion but 2A playoffs. Just a bunch of mess. I think it had something to do with holding down regular season travel for teams across the state.

Second page and the last post was seven hours ago. Purple Grad might as well go ahead and rename this thread the "Marion vs Look Out Valley But Nobody Gives A Rats Butt" topic. He can do that; I've seen him in action. This is the last time I drag this thread back to the front page. I don't know a lot about Look Out Valley except they had low numbers and one lightning fast back at the Jamboree. Our safety's better be ready. Don't count on chasing this guy down from behind. Now I understand how that question would be plum danged halarious for folks used to sitting on the Pirate side of the scoreboard. Oppposite side, not so much. You know the answer but I'll go ahead and type it anyway, cause I'm bored tonight. Put the game safely away (that'll differ with different opponents), sit as many starters as possible, and run off tackle plays until the final whistle. Let the clock count down max time between each play. If you're still driving practice a short field goal. All valley kickers would benefit from that. If you do happen to score while leading by 50 with under a minute to go, kick for the single point, don't go for two. Come on, an innovative coach smarter than me can come up with any number of ways to run a clock out without embarrasing an opponent. And here's another important point. When you're being interviewed after a big rivalry victory, don't tell the interviewer your disappointed you didn't hang "half a hundred" on the other team. Now as for that Harley man's comment about my comments to the Whitwell players, what should I say to them. Roy knows, and Old Pirate knows, in fact everbody in Tennessee knows Whitwell stands little chance of beating the Pirates. Yall can overlook Whitwell and leave half your team at home and still dominate. Thats facts. The rabbits will run Friday night and Whitwell won't catch them much. Nobody has, not even SM. What the Whitwell players can do is find a Pirate player each play and do what football players are supposed to do. They better cause the Pirate players will sure not pass up the opportunity. That's all I was saying. Wasn't whinning or whatever you alluded it was. I'm just not going to tell Whitwell players its gonna snow in August.

Forgot to add, Marion does have at least one player who squeezes the ball so tight both ends bulge. Good job to that player. Just want him to know this fan notices and appreciates his effort.

Agreed. Just believe any player handling the ball should make a personal commitment to maintain possession. I watch how some of these players run in traffic with the ball not secured. Chances for a fumble are magnified when this happens. Trent Richardson completed his SEC career and fumbled like never. Its a concept apparently not stressed enough in High School. Marion especially is a team that could benefit from players making a commitment to end all plays without fumbling. Think Hixson for example.

Right on the money Purple. Just what in hades is so hard about covering up a football. Kids need to learn that toting the rock is a RESPONSIBILITY, not a right. Scores probably about right. Maybe add a late one for Marion.

Mr Legit you are right and you are wrong. Don't judge these players by what they showed at SP. Like all previous MC teams they tend to play a little "Skeered" against the Pirates. Most teams do. JoeWillie has done a lot of stupid things in life and he's about to do another one, give up Marions secret. This team has lots of talent. Its more than just the Xeman brothers. Teams that play Marion expecting a two pronged fork will get skewered quickly. Winning breeds confidence and this team is gaining more of that each week. Kids learning their roles and carryhing out their assignments. Exceptional coach (es). Not Pittsburg/SM level yet but their gitting there. They will outplay Lookout Valley over the game and win comfortably.

Game related comment. Go Whitwell. You probably won't win but each play all eleven of your players have an opportunity to hit a Pirate. Don't short change yourselves. Enjoy the chance. Do the fans a favor and drop Grace. Pick up a team OP mentioned earlier if possible. Don't drop Signal. Listen, all weekend folks have asked me "Did you see the Pittsburg/SM game". Nobody askes if anyone saw the Whitwell/Silverdale or Marion/Sequatchie game, They wouldn't ask if anyone saw a "SP/almost any team but SM" either. Why give up a game that attracts so much attention. Its a total win/win game for SP no matter how you look at it. I still believe SP is going to have trouble coming up with any type of reasoable schedule. Do you really think Whitwell would be playing you guys Friday night if they had a choice. And thats the point. Teams that have a choice won't. Ain't gonna get much better soon. Face it your team is almost a guaranteed lose for most teams. Who choices that.

Old Pirate, serious question here. If Pitsburg drops Signal Mountain who can they expect to schedule to replace this game? Seems like the Pirates have reached the level of "Nobody but established programs will play us". Boyd lives with the same problem. Drop the SM game and pirate fans face either very long drives against pretty good programs in distant cities or short drives against very good programs in the Hamilton county area. Either option is a loser for program and fans. Won't surprise me if Sequatchie drops SP soon as well. If that happens just look where the SP schedule would be then. The SM/SP fued should continue and related parties should find a way to get over personality difficulties. Opposing coaches should never need police escorts to leave clubhouse after halftime. JMO but I see a real trainwreck coming for the SP schedule.

I agree. Can anyone close to this team tell me why our defensive backs seem to play like their bolted in place. The only part of our team I think Coach Mac could improve. Disipline is one thing but its not breaking a rule to react a little quicker.

Troll maybe Coach Price and Coach Mac will get together and arrange a Marion/Signal matchup in the coming years. Marion is improving fast. Give them another year and Coach Mac won't be dodging nobody. I guess Coach Boeck would get a more favorable welcome from Marion fans than he got from those down the road last week. From some of these posts sounds like the Signal/South Pit matchup just went Pzzzzzzit. One of the premier high school matchups in the state too. Everybody loses if this series don't continue.

Marion will win this game comfortably. This team is better than many people think except for that pass defense. It reeks.
