  1. Coach Allen always has his teams prepared for FHS, no matter who he is coaching. His only slight mis-step was getting a T called on em just after the end of the 1st half after MJ led the whole way. FHS tied it up @ 31-31 with a technical free throw to start the second half then took the lead and kept it. FHS took a 49 to 45 lead into the 4th quarter without Derek Anderson. (He took an elbow to the mouth @ the end of the 1st half & went to the hospital to have the tooth re-attached) In the 4th quarter, the Rebels got an occasional double digit lead but MJ kept fighting back. Not a very good game by the FHS post players but much credit should be given to the MJ boys for their tenacity on the boards and shooting the 3's down the stretch.
  2. Rebels should win by 15 or more. Quickness, smothering defense, size, shooting inside & out should all be in FHS favor. "Maybe" MJ has a press that can rattle the boys from Franklin. We shall see in a few hours!
  3. Good post! We'll know a lot more after January. "The court" is definiteny the best place to resolve any difference of opinion!!
  4. siegel (with a full/healty roster) Franklin Hunters Lane Whites Creek Shelbyville :justwrestle: But I haven't seen Oakland or Lebanon play.
  5. I believe Franklin will outplay Ravenwood with their inside game & their shooting from outside. (and their pressing defense if the coach decides to use it) FHS wins by 10+ each time. But what do I know. I obviously favor FHS. I just hope for good games and packed gyms. We need somebody as a "Rival" this year. And since Brentwood doesn't have much (but we all still like to kick their butts) and those football games were tough losses for FHS, why not Ravenwood as our main Rival this year!
  6. I thought that 1 of the refs was getting pretty friendly with Lucas whe ya'll would come back out on the floor. But I didn't have any of them "wink" at me. How did you get so lucky?
  7. The "Hoops" version of The Battle of Franklin ended with Franklin winning 76 to 62. Franklin led 61 to 41 before the subs took over.
  8. Well let's see. Franklin beat Whites Creek in pre-season scrimmage but that doesn't really count. We beat Hunters Lane in June @ the Lipscomb Summer Camp and I guess that doesn't count for much. Then we beat Siegle @ Siegle Nation but it wasn't a District game so I guess that doesn't really count for much either. Nope, we don't belong on that Top Teams list!!! Ya know, some list or ranking is not gonna get you to "The Boro". And once there, it sure won't get you that gold ball. I just hope that we have one or more teams from Middle TN playing on the last two days. That AAA sweep by West TN last year was the pits!
  9. Sorry bout that. I'll get it right from now on. And you're right. That other thread has dragged out way too long! I'm sure that is why Jim started this thread. To sorta "Nip it" as Barney would say. (showin my age)
  10. No doubt, Jimmy has a nose for the ball and knows what to do with it once he gets it. And yes, our posts are taught to get hands up and just try to alter the shot a bit and our guards are always lookin to intercept that kick-out pass.
  11. No doubt, Jimmy has a nose for where the ball is goin & knows what to do with it once he gets it!
  12. You got that Wright!(pun intended) I would rather watch a fast pased game of well coached over-achievers who understand and SUCCEED by the T.E.A.M. concept than a team with only 1 ot 2 superstars any day.
  13. Well said. And Siegel didn't actually see our "most smothering" defense. Ask BGA. And what the heck difference does it make whether Dude was tryin to dunk or not!!! (I can't believe that I said that.)

  15. Franklin could certainly have played the last few minutes better as well. FHS had the leaad 59 to 58 with 2.5 minutes left. Nick Trauma stole a pass on the far sidelines and Tony Murry was breaking away for an easy lay up. The pass went over Tony's head and we give the ball back with 2:07 left. Then we had a 61 to 58 lead with 1 minute left and, I believe, took a 64 to 58 lead with about 20-30 seconds left. That's when Jimmy made his only 3-pointer of the night with <10 seconds left in Cookeville-type fashion, banking it in from the top of the key. Then Derek Anderson gets fouled with just a few seconds left and misses both free throws. We should have won by 5 to 10 points. We should have focused our defense even more on Jimmy. Again, he is one awesome, all-around player. To leave him open for a couple of easy back-door lay-ups was in-excusable. And talk about poor clock management the last minute of the first half. It was 34 to 24 with 1 minute left. Next thing you know it is 34 to 29 FHS at the half and then 37 to 34 Siegel just into the 3rd quarter. That was a 13 to 0 swing!!!(yikes)
  16. FHS probably would have gone after Jones with our other post players but we ended up not having to. We could have gotten him fouled out earlier but he was better for us on the floor with 3 fouls in the 1st half and 4 in the second. Maybe Franklin should be in that ranking? But it's not important where we are now, it's how we end up that counts!!!
  17. Wow, I'm humbled. Hope nobody on our team reads this. They might get the big head! But I too really appreciate team play and great passing. I don't think that ever gets Old. (School)
  18. No, not upset at all. I try to stay "low keyed" (pun intended) on these forums and not attack teams, people or their attitudes. I was just saying that "if" Siegel's post game had been on, we have the players to handle it. We handled BGA's 6'9" post (Scott Saunders) who, IMHO, is a stronger post than Lucas.(but certainly not a Keith Ramsey) We didn't show you all of our weapons last night. No sense in tipping out hands to the guys scouting the team if we don't have to. Yep, it was a GREAT GAME. Hopefully, both teams will have several more good games like that to prepare them for the post season. Best of luck to SN.
  19. Lo-Key, Franklin does have post players. No, they are not 6'-9 like Keith & Lucas. But we have a 6'-6 post (Pamplin) and two 6'-4 posts (Glover & Batt) We have summer / AAU experience against many teams with 6-8 to7' posts. We easily beat Hillwood with their 7'-1 post. (Saffore - goin to UT-Chatt.) One of the best ways to beat a post dominant team is to run um ragged. Again, speed kills. FHS loves an up-tempo game. Thus, we were thrilled to see Siegel come out of the gates runnin last night. We have lots of depth at guard & post that allows us to run-n-gun and press.(which we didn't show ya'll last night) Siegel definitely has a tougher schedule than us. That will pay off for ya'll come the post season. And, as previously mentioned, this loss and any other during the season will only make you stronger and a little humble goin into the post season. The last thing I want is for us (FHS)to go into the post season undefeated.
  20. It takes us Franklin folks a while to get back home from Murfreesboro. Then I wanted to read the posts before weighing in. Seems like half of the SN visits here. All those posts about "Did he dunk, did not, did so, did not" made my head spin. So here is my 2 cents worth. (and, yes, I did weigh in yesterday) I'll do my best to take the high road with my comments. 1st) Jimmy Oden is the most impressive player that I've seen so far this year. We put several different defenders on him & he blew past most all of them. 2nd) Ya'll should be very proud of the "Siegel Nation". That is a very tough crowd to play in front of. 3rd) The refs didn't cost anyone this game. I think they missed as many on both ends. No need to debate each questionable call. Now for some introductions: #10 is Donta Brown - a quick shooting guard. He hasn't had a break-out game this year, so he was due. He won several games for us last year. #14 is Antonio Murry - our starting point guard. Yep, speed kills. Tony had plenty of help from Derek Anderson (#32), Donta & Nick Trauma (#30) with those steals. Of course, those "floater passes" were certainly appreciated. And yes, those floater shots of Tony's are a thing of beauty. FHS ended up with six threes and Siegel with only 3 of em. Definitely an off night for both teams from the perimeter. But Franklin knew that we had to slow down the "3 Parade" to try & keep the Siegel Nation" at least a little less rabid. We held John Crenshaw to only 8 points @ McGavock a week after he scored 33 against Siegel. We may have a player or two with an off night but FHS can always count on a strong defensive effort. Lucas got himself in foul trouble early in the 1st quarter which took him out of the game to a great degree. Lucas - Player of the Game with 13 points? I don't see it. But I'm not dis'n him. FHS does have a couple of good post players but the coach evidently decided that he didn't need to use them much. Hard to argue with success. It was a great game for all fans of HS basketball. And yes, we now have that target on our backs. Hopefully, we won't have another melt down in the Regions and we'll get to cross paths with ya'll in Murfreesboro. We look forward to getting to play against Keith Ramsey. Good luck to siegel the rest of the way. Hope to see ya'll in "The Boro" come March. Good night, all.
  21. After tomorrow night, we'll know if Franklin belongs somewhere on the list!
  22. A good inside - outside game is great to watch, especially with guards that can light it up with 3-pointers. But Siegel "doesn't" have two healthy posts. (and one evidently has some anger issues to deal with) However, Siegel guards have certainly done well without Keith in there. Should be an exciting game. Time will tell.
  23. Yes, Whites Creek can be beat. Hunters Lane, led by Jeremiah Crutcher got into a running game. (the best way to negate the impact of big men) With a 12 point lead going into the fourth quarter, Jeremiah had plenty of help with 3 teammates also scoring in the teens. Can WC beat BA? You bet! Again, the running game may be the best way to minimize Brandon Wright's impact. Best of luck to WC on Jan. 17.
  24. The "measuring stick" is ready! Two undefeated teams - should be exciting. We'll know more after Tuesday night. And it will be interesting to see how Keith plays the first few weeks of "real competition". A surgeon's knife can play games on a basketball player's mind! Will he crash the boards or cruise the perimeter? Time will tell!
