  1. Logan Reid of SBA will be wrestling for Lyon College.
  2. I second the fist bump, along with hand sanitizer throughout the day.
  3. Oliver threw his headgear against a nearby wall while he was still on the mat. At least this is what I witnessed from the sidelines. That was the rules infraction.
  4. This is the 2nd thread from 7+ years that has been bumped to the top, that I've seen today. Is it archive week or something? Did I miss the notice?
  5. I call it soda, and people look at me funny.
  6. I have been to a couple gyms where the trainers were not well educated, and the technique for lifts were rather poor. However, one of the Crossfit gym owners in our area, and my favorite so far, was a trainer for professional sports teams. It's hard to say that someone like that has the experience (and college degree) is going to let dangerous things happen. If you signed up for his gym, you had to take a two week course which covered proper technique for most of the lifts and exercises before you ever did a real WOD. I've also seen, in weight rooms, guys pumping each other up while executing terrible technique on lifts that we consider normal (i.e. bench press, squat, cleans). Also, I'd like to know if most schools have access to a professional strength training coach with wrestling experience. There are pros and cons to everything. You, or the wrestler, have to be wise and knowledgeable about what programs or gyms that you (general you) decide to invest in.
  7. Some of our wrestlers have done it on their own, outside of the team realm. We haven't incorporated it into our team training. The wrestlers that have done it on their own have shown great improvement in areas like endurance and explosiveness. For one in particular he was able to put on some lean muscle over the summer.
  8. Most Crossfit gyms will happily oblige you in making tailored workouts for specific sports. I know a few sports teams that have some kind of partnership with Crossfit gyms. The gyms will build workouts specific to the sports' endurance and strength needs. I have even seen this done with Lacrosse. Most Crossfit gyms don't follow the workout online. I've only been to one gym where that was actually adhered to. Also, IMO, Crossfit is a much better "in-season" training than straight weight lifting.
  9. So for every 1700 views do the Brothers go up a rank? Because if so, we can arrange for more views.
  10. Will this be streamed anywhere? For those of us not in the area, I'm sure some of us would still like to watch this.
  11. I did not state that this is why it would have been illegal. I merely stated that such a landing is prone to injury more often than other landings. I could have specified more clearly. As to whether a wrestler's experience level should come into play is hard to determine because referees may not have the same knowledge of the wrestlers that we as coaches/parents do. I also hate seeing a kid win a match because of this kind of call, but sometimes it happens.
  12. The rule simply states that "Wrestlers must return opponents to the mat safely after a lift..." If B comes down and is injured or unable to continue, then the fault falls upon A. Also, his feet clearly go up and over his head, meaning he was headed at the mat shoulder/head first. It's a pretty easy way to be injured. I'd call it illegal.
