  1. Maybe I'm not understanding your case. 1.) You think Coach Martin should not have been retained because __________. He didn't "coach up" the talent. Winning 3 state titles does not qualify 2.) You think not retaining Coach Martin, and hiring a coach with a losing overall record was a good thing. 3.) You believe that Goodpasture should compare itself to CPA. I believe that No one can or should compare themselves to CPA. CPA has a basketball coach that is director of admissions. Who else has that? CPA had a transfer from Greenbrier that was magically eligible, and now his parents are back in Greenbrier. CPA takes a kid who is failing 5 classes at MBA, then holds him back, and is their next big superstar. Your argument of "how many titles has Goodpasture won in 3A" is invalid. Goodpasture has 3 state titles in 2A. CPA has 2 titles in 1A. Are you a Goodpasture fan? Disgruntled parent? You are obviously not a Coach Martin supporter which is fine. However, not retaining him be careful what you wish for.
  2. As a head coach: David Martin 3 state titles, 5 runner up finishes Ingle Martin 0 state titles Seeing that you are comparing CPA and Goodpasture........I'm sure you are a devout Maddux follower as well. I do not believe I ever blamed the players. However, if you look at the entirety of the season, the argument could be made that those starters who got into trouble off the field cost Goodpasture a chance at a fine season. In dealing with shaping young men, I don't think Coach Martin is going to apologize for trying to teach players about consequences to their actions. Also, when you insinuate that the boosters and parents could improve on their coaching situation, I'm sure they had a coach with a losing winning percentage in mind. I'd rather not compare CPA and Goodpasture. One school has a win at all cost mentality both morally and ethically........one does not. That is for another argument.
  3. If u read the post, I never asked he be fired. I think Coach Pierce is a great man of integrity, however the fact is that in crunch time they could not close the deal. Furthermore, comparing the 2 situations is apples and oranges. But since you want to discuss the topic. Goodpasture's football team was not the most talented in their division, with Alcoa, CAK, and Milan..... And their former Coach has won 3 state titles with 5 runner ups. I agree with your assessment that wins and losses are not everything with a head coach at a school. I find Coach Pierce to be a great man of high character. Just raising the discussion on how they could not win the title when it counts.
  4. I think that is the plan. Especially when you fire a guy with 3 state titles. Amazing that this day in age with as much bad publicity about coaches and teachers everywhere, someone with the integrity of David Martin gets treated that way.
  5. Unbelievable that FRA can't get it done in the postseason again. I like Pierce, but the fact is that his teams constantly underachieve for the amount of talent he has in the division that they plan in. Some have mentioned him as a candidate for the Brentwood Academy opening......I just don't see it. The last 2 seasons FRA had the talent to not only win DII-A, but would compete in DII-AA. FRA fans....What is the deal? Is it a coaching or motivational issue?
  6. In Wilson County as well as Sumner, Rutherford County, and Williamson County the executive principal is the one responsible for making the hiring of coaches within the school. Athletic Directors may have a say or recommend, but it ultimately comes down to the decision of the Excecutive principal. That's why I think RB got kind of a raw deal. Especially taking the 15-20k paycut. In Metro, the executive principal can recommend, but has to be approved by "Metro's Athletic Director" in both football and basketball, non-revenue sports (baseball) you can appoint someone. Back to the topic......... MJ wins this district and it isn't close.
  7. I don't think a teacher with 2 sons playing ball takes a 15k/year pay cut to move into another school district to be an assistant coach at the school where his son's play, without having an impression that there was a high possibility of him getting the job. I agree MJ has enough talent with or without them, and sorry if that was the impression of my post. Mel Brown is the principal. He makes the hires. So yes, he is the only one who had a say. Otherwise, Carter is not the coach. Not a big deal either way. It's politics and part of life.
  8. Think it was a slap in the face for Mel to bring Rob Brown over as an assistant coach. Get his 2 sons to play there, and then go and hire Carter as the coach. Brown took a big paycut to leave Metro, probably with the idea that when Purvis moved on, the job was his.......especially with his sons coming into play. I don't see Coach Carter staying around very long.
  9. Don't think you should punish the players and future players with a postseason ban. That doesn't help anyone. Fire the coach immediately. And he isn't allowed to coach for 3 years.
  10. Wow. 23 years old! Nice work by the Ridgeway coaching staff.
  11. No one is doubting Coach Purvis's abilities to coach and run a program. Anyone who knows anything about baseball should be able to coach the MJ team. Personally, I think Coach Brown should have been elevated to HC, but will support Coach Carter.
  12. Goodwin needs to move to the private school sector. Or get at tradition rich AAA power. Cheatham County schools are broke and can't pay coaches. It's real concerning.
  13. Back to the topic.....BigEns can edit his error. Must have been dreaming about those Memphis Grizzlies teams. Ronnie McMahan?
  14. In that situation, it wasn't parents......it was his own actions. In public schools, they won't cut all the players. They keep those freshmen and non-playing sophomores around with hopes and dreams so they can fundraise and be "committed to the program".
  15. Husband couldn't win, and the players in the school would not come out and play for him. It was time for a change.
  16. Ezell Harding sounds like a dumpster fire. Maybe the Geeman can let us know what's going on?
  17. Don't think the coach at MJ matters that much. They have the studs no matter what, but need to get it done in the postseason. Purvis had too many "outside distractions" himself. That's why he isn't coaching. I'm glad Mel Brown could do his good buddy Ronnie Carter a favor and hire his son for the gig. Must be good to know people in high places.
  18. WarEagle, I don't think the ship is necessarily sinking over at FRA. But I do like your list. What about Starks from Harding Academy?
  19. Be careful what you wish for. You might see Goodpasture next year and they will be loaded.
  20. Post of the year. Look the bottom line is Goodpasture won the district. Lynn was the best player. It honestly doesn't matter who ends up where in this district because you still have to go through CPA, East Lit, Maplewood, and Pearl to get a substate birth. I don't see any of the hillbilly teams advancing. And it's going to be tough for Goodpasture to make it to the region finals. The only person who will care who won district MVP 10 years from now is Al Bundy.
  21. Church of Christ played a factor, however Coach Mote was also the cheapest and had less demands of the final 8 candidates according to sources.
  22. Welcome Coach Mote to the Cougar family!
  23. I'm just glad CBJ brought us the "best staff in America"
  24. Yes.....because Alcoa, Milan, CAK, and CPA completely suck. This comment shows your complete incompetence. Not to mention, he won 3 state titles and was runner-up 5 times. I guess Adeylott at Riverdale has been a complete failure as well.
  25. Post of the year. Knowing Coach Bradshaw personally, he is a great coach and I hate that FCS politics cost him his position. He probably didn't understand it at the time, as most of us on the outside did not, but everything happens for a reason, and he is in a much better place for himself. There was nothing I enjoyed more than opening up the paper and seeing he walloped FCS by 40 and stuck it to the Commanders. What they did to him personally was a disgrace to the coaching profession, but not unheard of.......See the David Martin situation.
