  1. Absolutely!!! Play ball with all your heart and if you get whooped then work harder to improve. No crying, no pointing to others, just work harder. Even though SGC had a poor year on the field, this group of young men gave it all they had. We had our banquet last night and I told each of them what a great year they had. A couple pointed out our losing season. I pointed out how much they had run, lifted, practiced and sweated week after week for what some call a silly game. I told them that while winning was good the best part of football was overcoming the physical and mental demands of the game. Mark Twain said, "A man can learn things carrying a cat by the tail he can't learn any other way." After four years of football they have learned thing that those who have never had the blessing of putting on the pads will ever learn. That after four years they are all winners! I told my son to not let this be the best four years of his life but to take what he has learned by being a competitor and an athelete and apply them to the challenges that lie ahead. He is being recruited by a few schools to play football. I don't know what his path will be but I know football has helped to prepare him for the journey. Wow! Didn't mean to get so wordy here. Feeling a little sentimental I guess.
  2. Well, thank you BPM! For the most part I aggree with you assement. However, I have seen some very exciting games that came down to one play. We had more than our share this year. Good luck next Friday.
  3. OK, I found this from the NCAA rule book: Rule 7, Section 3: Complete Pass "ARTICLE 6. Any forward pass is complete when caught by a player of the passing team who is inbounds, and the ball continues in play unless completed in the opponent's end zone or the pass has been caught simultaneously by opposing players. If a forward pass is caught simultaneously by opposing players inbounds, the ball becomes dead and belongs to the passing team ." Can't argue with that! But it was called an interception (and I'll take the word of those who had a better view) and that ended the game and answers my question with authority. Much thanks to all who responded.
  4. I did not see the actual play. I had left the stands to slap hands with the players & I was at the other end of the field. I have watched the video on HUDL several times and on my little screen it is hard to tell. I don't know how many hands were on the ball but the ball got to the defender first. I can understand why it was ruled an interception and that makes more sense to me than it being called incomplete.
  5. Hey Swingjuice, The ref did rule it an interception. All this time I thought they had called it incomplete. The co-worker I am refering to says the refs stole the game from us. I said the refs made the right call. I too have looked at the video but I guess I need a bigger monitor. My old eyes don't see an interception. It really dosen't matter now. The game, and the final score, is in the past and no amount of talk will change that. Milan won, SGC lost but I wish fans would stop blaming anything and everything (refs, coachs, linemen, weather, traffic, color of team uniforms, etc. etc. ect.) for our losses. Know what I mean? The way some folks talk you would think there is a group who goes around West Tenessee bribing officials just to make sure SGS never wins a game. Still, the purpose of this thread was to find someone who KNOWS (and can point to a rulebook) what is the correct call in this situtation.
  6. A couple of things here. 1: I went to Hudl and looked at the footage of that play from the game. Neither player was out of bounds. They both went up and then fell on the ground when they came down. 2: According to the newspaper (The Milan Exchange) the call from the ref was an interception. I thought it was ruled incomplete. Based on this I am going to have to concede that my co-worker is correct: the refs made a bad call. Thanks to all who responded.
  7. Milan's year is like something out of a sci-fi movie. Started out the year weak. But as they started to comsume their opponents they got a little bigger and a little stronger. Week-by-week they grew. Week-by-week they got better. Week-by-week they got meaner. By the time they meet CPA they will be a huge, drooling, mass of a beast looking to eat the universe. Bwa-ha-ha!!!
  8. I am having a heated dispute with a co-worker about a call during one of our regular season games. We are down 22-28 with less than a minute on the clock. We have posession. As the clock is winding down we throw a pass to the end zone. Our receiver goes up for the ball. The defender goes up for the ball. BOTH players come down with the ball. The ref calls the pass incomplete. End of game. We lose. I say the ref made the right call because neither player had control of the ball so it had to be incomplete. My co-worker says it was a tie and it should have been called a completed pass for us. I found a video where this happened in a NFL game and it was ruled as complete for the receiver. But, we do not play by NFL rules. Anyone KNOW (not an opinion) if the ref was correct? Thanks. If I can prove I am right then I get to crow loud and strong. If I am wrong then I will have to eat crow.
  9. Funny. Good luck to Milan. Ought to be a good game.
  10. Keep that up and you'll be BigOrangeMachine!!!!
  11. A trip to the river to face the #1 team in the quad. Don't know who will come away with the "W", but I'm gonna pull for Milan.
  12. How can that happen? How are the playoffs going to be determined?
  13. This is gonna be a close one. There is much to be said for both teams but when the dust settles I think Milan will exit with a win. I'm not sure what impact the artifical turf will have on the boys from Milan (my son hates it) and for that reason I feel the game will be close.
