  1. Mt. Juliet of course,Lebanon, Rossview, Coffee co., Springfield, Summit, Riverdale. Pretty big QUAD. Oh lets not forget the middle school. M.J., West Wilson, Prescott, Algood, Avery Trace
  2. Yes, Lets compare wrestling to one of the slowest most boring things to watch there is "Golf" Ranks right up there with watching paint dry. Every division needs their own time for the finals, even girls. Not during other matches. We all missed enough matches at this years state, trying to watch 3 mats all at once. Great now its gonna be 4. All for girls wrestling, but 4 finals all at once. OMG
  3. He coulda' done better if he wasn't hurt Friday night. Doctor will tell. But evidently you misunderstand. A wrestler doesn't wrestle for medals , you're right. But they do give medals at every tournament we have ever been to. So why not make the biggest accomplishment of some of their careers just a little better. That's what I'm trying to say. Trophies are mementos of accomplishments. Something to look at down the road and remind you of what you did or didn't do. Yes you'll remember that on your own. But lets say it's been a bad day, you look up and see that medal and smile. Real athletes will participate no matter what. Medal, trophy or not. But if it doesn't matter why do we not just tell the O.W. that he did a good job. Why give out team trophies at an individual tournament. Because part of it is hoisting that reward for the accomplishment. Could you imagine the picture on the medal stand if first place was hoisting a big trophy. We just disagree about the smile a real nice medal will bring to a kid. Just saying if your gonna give out medals, Give a medal.
  4. I agree with you west. To eliminate the two 4-5 hours of down time would be a great idea. If you got rid of the delay Friday, you could wrestle the 5th and 6th place match Friday as well as the 3rd and 4th place matches. This would leave Saturday for the finals. Weigh in 8 A.M. start wrestling at 10 A.M. Then you could draw to see who goes first (D-2, AAA, A-AA) It takes 2 to 2.5 hours to wrestle a duel. Which is essentially what it equals to per division. Leave 5 to 10 minutes between matches, for medals or one hour after each division is over. Wrestle 106 wait one match for loser to cool down. Give out medals between matches. So at the end of the 113, match you give out medals for 106. And so on. 2.5 hours to wrestle, 1 hour for medals (either between or after, NOT DURING) This is only 3.5 to 4 hours. One mat. D-2=10 A.M.-2 P.M. A-AA 2 P.M.-6 P.M. AAA 6 P.M. - 10 P.M. Done by 10 P.M. if you waited till 10 A.M. to start. Weigh in at 7 Start at 8 or 9 and your done earlier. Let the finals be the highlight it deserves. 1 mat, 2 athletes, spotlighted in the center for all there to watch.
  5. Yes while your there on the podium the teeny tiny medal is fine your happy, 5 minutes later when your showing it off to friends and family not impressed. And as for growing the sport, If I was a new guy coming in to wrestling and I saw a huge trophy or medal given out it would make me want it more. On the other hand if I was the same new guy and saw the medals ide be like " That's all you get" Which would you rather have a Porsche or a Pinto? I'm sorry but a big medal or a big trophy does make these kids happy. Ask the kids that placed. I know I heard it from several of the wrestlers, from multiple teams.
  6. Doesn't make it right. Give the kids something they want to show off they earned it.
  7. If tssaa makes a thousand off the tournament to me that is too much. If the numbers need to increase then put the best venue and show on. Word gets around that it was awesome then in 2 years people will be there to see it. Like I said before I wasn't disappointed but I wasn't real impressed either. The only thing I was disappointed about were the size of the medals. The region and state high school medals are the smallest medals my 7 year wrestler has ever received. 100 plus football, baseball, and wrestling medals 50 plus are wrestling. They could also get more vendors. More to do in between matches for the families that are sitting for three days. There are a lot of things that could be put out for a little more enjoyment to the families. I have seen it done at a couple of events.
  8. Yes a state medal should put others to shame. The little kids aau and usa medals are 4 times the size. It is awesome to get a medal, c'mon tssaa put some weight to these medals. P-wee football participation medals are bigger. The format isn't my issue its the size that matters. lol Give the kids bigger medals since venue is donated. And do they still give the rings to the champion. I sure hope so.
  9. I agree Oliver a great wrestler not my choice but well deserving at "THIS" tournament. Credentials should have nothing to do this. He wrestled very well. But for all I care, he could have 20 fargo championships and if I was voting for o.w. that wouldn't matter at that time.
  10. Why not let all competitors vote? Since they will all wrestle there. Even if you didn't place, it was a long road to just make it there.
  11. If you don't separate the individual state divisions and keep it at three mats for the finals, you could hold the event in two days. Without the two 4-5 hour delays. This should bring rental of a complex down.
  12. I would have given o.w. to the freshman who won the 120 AAA. What an amazing accomplishment. Ain't even my kid, my school, my county, or my region.
  13. While this was my sons first high school state, I have seen much worse places. No its not top notch. But it was better than last year. I heard no wrestler complaining about the floor not level just parents. Maybe instead of griping about moving it , gripe about what can be done to fix what will make it better there. The atmosphere was kind of dull for the finals. Maybe instead of a five hour break, wrestle one mat each division separately. Something like at 12:00 d-1 3:00 d-2 6:00 d-3. You wouldn't lose money this way. The division you came to watch would then be highlighted giving the finals the attention it deserves. With three mats going it was too much to take in, and if there were 2 or more big matches to watch you couldn't watch all of it. There were some matches I wanted to see from other divisions, but didn't get to see anything but who won or not even who won because I was watching the other match. Or if there was a big roar I had to ask what happened because I was watching another mat. Separation of the finals would allow more people to concentrate on the one match. Then immediately after the finals have the podium sitting there waiting while the energy for that match is still there. Or one match later so the loser can have time to calm. Then you could also take the time to award the medals while there is no matches being wrestled. separate them and highlight the mat. It takes 2 hours for a dual, add 5 minutes between each match for awards and announcement of next match 12*5 is 60. This is 3 hours per division. Hosting counties probably last because of less drive time. Just saying Decent venue (needs work) All of those who worked to get this much done "THANK YOU" Would I like it to be at the municipal or Bridgestone? Heck Yeah, But till then lets fix the problems here.
  14. Hsdad what I do is none of yours or anyone elses business. If you want to know what it was about come talk to me and I will tell you. No its not to be confrontational. Some things you just don't post like your above "btw" comment.
  15. all good pfffft there is a kid with a 6- 17 record in the state
  16. 126 Wilkins and Debien second round . Providing they both win their first round. Really, Yall were right no rhyme or reason. 2 losses in state all year beat ranked wrestlers. Lost to Dickenson 2 times. The number 2 ranked wrestler and get thrown to Debien that quick. I guess itll be the hard way to get a medal at all.
  17. Well it looks like they save plenty (TSSAA) Years of hard work, giving up on time with friends and family. Finally get to high school , Make it to the podium in the region and not want to wear your medal because it looks like a quarter on a lanyard. When my son walked up I said did you drop the medal or break the clip already? He held it up and said "It's right hear" I saw the clip holding it before I saw the medal. Not asking for real gold and silver but c'mon. disappointment on my boys face because of expectations that it is a higher level achievement and out of 7 years wrestling the worst hardware ever. Way to make the kids proud
  18. but even if you went 0-2 you would still go. I for one wouldn't care what region my boy was in. But it has always been disappointing to see small brackets. Your top placer in each weight would still go but probably not your 4th place guy. Yes it is a super tuff region. But I know once I knew I was in the state it would take alot of pressure off . It sucks too see some triple overtime matches go on in the quarters and the loser go home when he loses another overtime match to the third place finisher, When you could be going no matter what if you were in a different region. So yes it makes a difference. Re-unite= hard state heck of a fight to get there. don't reunite easier path sometimes a gimme and a decent wrestler can get a medal at the state. Its ok though if the 3rd and fourth are tough they'll prove it, by getting at least to the quarters. if it is not meant to be then 2 and home.
  19. Yes! Re-unite, as I said earlier put up or shut up. 4 regions. Send top 4 from each region. 16 man brackets. double elimination. place top four. 2 day tournament could even be a 1 day tournament. You could send the top ^ from each region if it was four regions. Oh and holy cow my kid wrestles for 7 years now. Gets to high school places in regions and gets the smallest medal I have ever seen. The bracket that was given to the winners was a piece of copier paper. Way to award a kids hard work. I guess that's what happens when there are too many divisions and regions. You get a medal that is 1" in diameter. I have never in my life seen smaller hardware. Youth participation medals are bigger. Heck its just bigger than a quarter.
  20. ha that's what my wife just said. She said "you know not all of those wrestlers would meke it in other regions so it will just make the first round easier.
  21. west all of those whole 4 teams wouldn't have made it past the region quit lying to yourself. you should have to wrestle at least 2 matches to get a medal. (Hopefully a lot more) I for one was very disappointed that mine only had 3 matches to get a medal. including the finals. Cant wait for the state put up or shut up time to get a medal. I want to see the total medal count for the state(s) not just total first places. don't let the new batches of sophomores and freshman sneak up on yall over the next couple of years.
  22. shut up 119 lol but the municipal auditorium does sound good it is just collecting dust bet they could get it for a dollar
  23. Try this out super simple. 1- 4 go to state from each region. (Once Again) If you don't place or your hurt or sick for the region you don't go to state. To seed the top 4 you use head to head. (no ifs ands or buts, bad call or not the winner is the winner) Last year shouldn't matter at all when it comes to seeding/placing wrestlers this year. If you placed last year "GREAT JOB" Do it again this year. Then go to matches won, then by pin. You can seed/place 2nds ,3rds, 4ths from the regionals the same way. In the event you have to many wrestlers in a bracket, the 4ths wrestle-in to the main bracket. The losers of the wrestle-in then go to the 5th and 6th place consolation bracket. This guarantees everyone to get two matches and still have a shot at a medal. No brains here but sounds super fair.
