    Band and Football

This season, as in the past several seasons, Peabody has about 10 young men who play football and perform in the marching band.....a testament to a coach and band director who work together as well as tremendous dedication put forth by the guys who do it......I don't know how they manage, but they do. They are under a lot of pressure from their peers, coaches and band directors as they are expected to give 100% to both activities. The band players do not perform at away games, however, but they change into a clean jersey and remove their pads for home game halftime shows. They travel with the band and perform at all contests, and they are a valuable assest to both programs. We are fortunate to belong to a school whose goal it is to develop well-rounded students and integrate pride in their school as a "team"...encompassing all of their activities together - not seperate entities. P.S. PEabody won their game against USJ (14-13) last night in part because our kicker made both of our field goals, something USJ was unable to do to tie the game......our kicker is also a band captain and a member of our percussion section.
  2. FYI - Having a GREAT time in Murphreesboro. Haven't found one thing to complain about, and they haven't played "Dixie" once at the Murphy Center. Wish you were here. XOXO
  3. YEah, Yeah......got you figured out......see you at the game tonight! ROLL TIDE!
  4. Yeah......she likes to kick a ball around. Now give me a clue about yourself.
  5. Nope....just love the Tide......two kids involved in lots of other PHS activities.....and I have a really CRAZY husband......that clue you in?
  6. Trenton's not that big.....I'm sure we've met!
  7. Yes, LC plays great defense and has a good press. And if the refs call it all one-sided like they did for the LC/MC game, Peabody is in trouble. If they call it both ways, Peabody might have a chance.

  9. I aree with your synopsis of the game. I really think SF can pull it off. They have played, in my opinion, a MUCH stronger District and Region than USJ. Alvey has never been a factor for Peabody. GO LADY RED DEVILS! Will anyone be carrying this on the radio?

  11. My blood happens to run orange, too, but it's just not the same unless your watching the Vols play.
  12. I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice. And I bet you are right in that nothing was intentional with the song choice....I think what got my attention first was the SLLOOOOOOWWWWness of the song! It was weird! I happen to personally like "Dixie" too, just don't want to hear it at a ballgame, sitting among other parents who happen to be African American.
  13. After spending the previous week at Lake County, how refreshing to experience great hospitality and sportsmanship at Gleason. Your new facility is really great. Every night, your parking "guys" have been friendly and helpful, and well organized. Nice clean restrooms... The games have been fun to watch. Overall, a pleasant experience. The only "chink" in your armor is your poor choice of playing "Dixie" during the halftime of the girls' final last night. I hope this was just an oversite (Freudian slip perhaps?), but how insensitive can you be? I'm glad our girls were still in the lockeroom at the time. I hope you will use better judgement tomorrow night as the LC/Peabody game doesn't need any more fuel for their fire. Congratulations on an otherwise super job as hosts.
  14. I was told by TSSD administration that a fax was received from the TSSAA on Sunday that cleared him to play. No explanation was given, however it is widely speculated that other officials present at the game that night may have intereceded on his behalf. I just thought heck had frozen over, for the TSSAA to rescind any calls made. Sorry for your luck. One post-script on that incident - this same ref made some very similar calls against Doaks when he was in eighth grade......I definietly think he (the ref) had some sort of axe to grind. Anyway, unless something new has developed today - he's in for Greenfield. Roll Tide.
  15. Let's see......97.7 is located in TRENTON.......they cover TRENTON and the other Gibson County schools week in and week out.......they are supported by businesses in TRENTON and GIBSON COUNTY.......and you don't understand why they seem to favor our teams?????? HEEEEEEEEEERE'S YOUR SIGN!!!!!!!! .You guys do a great job week in and week out covering sports for GIBSON COUNTY teams. I appreciate your interpretation of the dynamics of the game that we at home can't judge. You guys who don't like it - get your own radio station. Roll Tide! And best of luck to the rest of our neighbors in GIBSON COUNTY!
  16. Go Halls, is all I have to say! I'm going to see my girls play tonight at LC and I am Not looking forward to going back into a still-steaming environment. I told my daughter this morning that we should go to Saturday's game and after the PEabody game, we should put a "Halls" sign over our "Peabody" shirts to help yall out. Here's a point to ponder that no one else has brought up: Under TSSAA bylaws substitutes or spectators who leave their designated area during a game may result in a fine($250.00 minimum) at the least. - does the classsless debaucle they displayed AFTER the game count????? Not allowing our players to their locker room????/? Taunting them all the way? Good grief. As for PEabody, we'll take our medicine and go on. I understand that when the second tech was called, Doaks had his back to the officials and was jumping up and down in fron of Sisco questioning the previous tech. ?? If so maybe an appeal is due - although unlikely to be granted.
  17. Listening for the buzzer would make sense - although in a case such as this, how is .5 seconds decided upon? Would that be the standing rule? And if so, what if your scoreboard doesn't break seconds down? Then what? I guess the games over??? I remember well the issue of the clock continuing to run around the 2:48 mark......it was just a crazy game from the get go. Kudos to the WV coaching staff . However, if they lost the Belote kid, I'm sure they might rather have had a loss at the end of regulation in a game that otherwise means nothing, and still have him for post season play. He's a great player and hope he's okay. I'm looking forward to today's call in show. I would like to hear the opinions of others who were at the game last night.
  18. Does the TSSAA address "nanoseconds"? I agree with you. Without the technology, how can a human (ref) see the split seconds on the clock, watch the play (as in this case - mid-court) AND listen for a whistle? BOY IS HE GOOD - NOT! He has consistantly made TERRIBLE calls all year. This has been the worst officiating for a season as a whole that I have ever seen. And I make that remark on both sides of the ball. I'll be the first to admit that PEabody should not have let things get to that point. They did not bring their "A" game to MArtin. Having said that - they won in regulation. Guess I'l go buy that gallon of gas now.
