  1. Who is the person the parents referred to amd which old Catholic coach? BBV, both are retired. I know one thing, if the right people started a club and did it the right way....all 3 would be in trouble.
  2. Wonder if that's why Garland left?
  3. That won't happen at Catholic. Parents rule that place.
  4. Raven, Please... Grace fans have no room to be whining about sportsmanship. I've been at Grace basketball and football games for years and they are the worst! So many other schools say the same thing!
  5. UT is struggling, no doubt. Rob Patrick, however, did not forget how to coach and recruit. He is like most D1 coaches that are very hard on the kids. They tend to be verbally abusive and that has been noted by some on this board in reference to local club coaches as well. Rob has been here for a long time and, unfortunately, has probably developed a poor reputation among recruits with many girls transferring. Transfers are always going to happen, that's part of college athletics. Perhaps, Rob and UT need a fresh start. He has been at UT longer than most coaches stay in one spot. He is a great coach with great knowledge of the game who has hit a rut. He does, however, have SEC level talent but they are very young. Remember, coaching at any level is hard these days. College is worse and yes, parents are heavily involved as well. Not just a high school problem. Ask Holly Warlick and Rob, they will tell you.
  6. Mike Jones knows more about volleyball than anyone in Tennessee, and that includes Rob Patrick at UT. People would be shocked if they knew his resume. He doesn't speak of his past experiences much and thats a shame. Catholic did the right thing by keeping Mike Jones on staff. They know how valuable he is. I had a chance to talk volleyball with Jones one day and I was blown away.
  7. I love you but you have no idea what you are talking about with Catholic when Jones left. I'm done discussing it with you. I hope Chris Hames is paying you well as a marketer for her. Happy Thanksgiving. Lord have mercy.
  8. I don't think Chris Hames was Webb's first choice either. Ktruth, you wanted criticism of the Hames and now you are getting it. Careful of what you wish for. Don't get me wrong, I think she's a good coach but there are many other good coaches in Knoxville.
  9. You have no idea what youare talking about with the Catholic job. People who are reading your posts have inside knowledge, trust me, of the Catholic and Bearden jobs and Chris Hames was never even mentioned. Ktruth, I love your passion but you have no idea what you are saying. That's all I will say. Please stop with the conjecture. Catholic and Bearden volleyball jobs were never in play for the Hames. Please stick to facts and things that you know. Enough cheerleading.
  10. Wow. I can name 2 more coaches in Knoxville in addition to your list that are better as well.
  11. Hmmmmm? Interesting. Watch out. Ktruth will be upset that you criticized the Hames.
  12. Here's a juicy rumor. Catholic will just have parents coach on an interim basis for a year while they do an exhaustive search. Also, Bearden is hiring a former college coach who is moving in from out of state. Several other jobs opening up as well. Can anyone verify this? Ktruth, have you heard any of this? You seem to be well-connected. Happy Thanksgiving
  13. And Webb was very good many years under Dennis Ray as well. Some schools like AC, Farragut, Catholic, CAK and a few others are good nearly every year. Remember, its all cyclical and players make a great coach. Ask John Wooden.
  14. I didn't mean to get testy and no nerve hit, I promise. Just pointing out that ADs would not be calling the Hames to get advice as k2 mentioned. Most ADs do not care about girls sports anyway and rely on a parent to find a coach or just post the position on TSSAA job openings. Everyone here has been critical of coaches but the Hames seem to be sacred cows, beyond any criticism. Not that I was criticizing, just trying to clarify a point. I could be critical of coaches on this site, including the Hames, but I choose not to do so. Yes, I agree with you ktown. Many good coaches and there are many variables with coaching.
  15. K2, trust me on this. There is not 1 AD or principal who cares one bit about what the Hames think. Chris Hames has some great players and plays in a lower division of high school ball. There are only a few good teams in Webb division. She is a good coach but there are several good coaches in Knoxville. Remember, players make a coach look good. I know you love the Hames, but let's be real here. Volleyball in Knoxville does not revolve around the Hames.
  16. Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as rude. I was just asking why k2 even mentioned it. Who cares if the Hames like a coach really? And they shouldn't care who likes them. Please forgive me if I came across as rude.
  17. Just wondering...what does it matter what the Hames think about her? Are they involved in the hiring process?
  18. Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss was a high school coach in Memphis and coached Michael Oher, the real player from the Blind Side movie. Lots of coaches started in high school.
  19. CAK won state title because they had better players who were healthy for once. Jamie, although not real popular, did a great job with this team. He coached them hard and well. His assistant did a good job but I would not say she helped get them over the hump. No disrespect. This was Jamie's team. He does a good job. You can't deny that with his record over the past 3 years. He's also had lots of good players and lots of size. Great players also make a coach look good and smart.
  20. Who knows. There may be more jobs open soon too. What do you think?
  21. Several. Some high school coaches don't want to coach club. And it is incorrect to say they have to be club coaches to be good. As noted earlier, some stay out of xlub coaching for many reasons.
  22. Philly, I have learned that everything is believable these days. Makes sense for high school coaches to not be be affiliated with a club for that reason. Just a thought. Wink. Wink.
  23. K2, sorry but that's not quite accurate. Volleyball is an exempt sport for TSSAA. That means they can hire anyone to fill positions for minor sports. They enacted this years ago to be able to have quality coaches fill minor sport positions rather than have football coaches, or similar, fill the positions. The minor sports were getting screwed and schools could not find faculty positions for all coaches. This allows them to hire the best coaches they can find. Football, basketball and baseball are considered major sports and require head coaches be faculty or staff..with a few exceptions. For example, Garland worked at UT when he was offered the Bearden job 3 years ago.
  24. Speak to girls who played for Mincey at CN. I know a few, not that it is a big deal. They are full of good info.
