  1. The Bees have broken a lot of streaks this year - hadn't beaten Smith County since the 90's, hadn't beaten York at York in as long as anyone can remember. When a program has been down as long as theirs has, there is a lot of negative history to overcome. Hoping they can add LA and DC to the list that they beat this year for the first time in a long time.
  2. Warren County seems to be having trouble winning again this year. They are much improved and are playing teams close but haven't really brought home many wins. I think SC takes this one in a close game.
  3. So what changed in the second half of the DeKalb and Trousdale game? Not having been there to see it, seemed like two completely different games going only on the scores.
  4. Upperman is expecting their next three games to all be close. What can they expect from Macon? It is fall break in Putnam County so attendance may be low for the home crowd. Does Macon bring a crowd?
  5. Thoughts? Upperman seemed to start slow last week at York and had a lot of penalties. They need to clean up their game this week. Four games left and all are 8-AA games that they have to win.
  6. Dustin Williams, huh? Too funny. I hear he's a nice man and I know that the players like and respect him, but afraid you're way off base. Upperman probably wouldn't have won a game if I were calling their defense. Karma is a witch - a lot of teams learn that every year - including LA this year. UHS may not win another game for two decades, but the kids there this year deserve to enjoy the rewards of their hard work just like LA did last year. Will they win a gold ball? Guess that remains to be seen, but going 6-0 to start their senior year after being 1-9 freshman year is a heck of of an accomplishment and they deserve to be proud of that while they work to keep winning. So, who cares what the numbers are on the shirts at the end of the year - right now the shirts say Upperman Bees and that's something to be proud of all by itself. To take a program with 19 kids and one win and turn in completely around in three years is an accomplishment no matter who you ask.
  7. They must have been down. Baxter's middle school only won two games and lost most by a large margin and they beat DeKalb 6-0.
  8. Herald Citizen today made it sound like York had a solid game Friday night. Are the Jets just that bad or is York getting better?
  9. Too funny. So, if you can't beat them, cheer for someone else who might be able to. Good strategy. Best of luck to the Blue Devils for the rest of the season.
  10. I don't quite understand the 'what goes around comes around' comments. Doesn't appear that Upperman is trying to beat anyone as bad as they potentially could (except maybe Gordonsville and I hear that one was personal) but even if they had, maybe it is just what has been 'coming around' for years 'going around' in a different direction for once. They have been the ones taking the pounding from others as long as I can remember and I don't recall anyone feeling too sorry for them. I am sure when they are down again, these same people won't be crying in outrage that they are getting beaten.
  11. Thoughts on tbis one? Haven't seen York play this year but they used to be tough at home.
  12. That's what I heard too. In other words, if you're going to run your mouth, be able to back it up or be prepared for the consequences.
  13. Putnam County provides no money except coaching supplements to any of the schools here. All funding is through gate/concessions/fundraisers.
  14. Nothing wrong with fans and interested observers looking ahead I suppose as long as the players aren't.
  15. There are still a lot of games to be played before the DC/UHS game. I'm hoping the Bees are just focusing on one game at a time. Any team can beat them if they start looking ahead.
  16. Upperman has homecoming this week. Hope the combination of that and coming off of the bye week doesn't leave them flat going into this one. Haven't seem Jackson County so don't know how they stack up against the Bees.
  17. They have a group of 18 seniors that have played together since many of them were six and they have practiced three hours a day, five days a week, eleven months of the year for three years - success never comes easy or quick in football unless you can recruit. Their schedule has been easy so far - Gordonsville and Smith County were down more than expected. There are many games left to play though.
  18. Connor York and the rest if the starters were out for all but one drive in the second half if the last game. Individual stats are of no concern to any of the coaches or players on that team.
  19. Not sure if anyone would have believed it - most thought Uhs would be 2-2 right now. First Upperman team since the 1950's to go 4-0 to start the season. There's still a lot of football left to play this season. Hope they stay focused.
  20. Agreed. That senior class has been through a lot together and they have stuck together and worked to lead that program to a new level. I know some of the kids from church and they are humble and appreciative of the success they are seeing. I truly hope they stay healthy and continue to win more games.
  21. This doesn't describe the Jalen Manning I saw running last week in Baxter. He had great vision, quick feet and would run over you. Without him, UHS would have won that game by as much as they did the Gordonsville game. He was effective on defense also. Maybe not district MVP but he's got talent. I haven't seen Linder play much but if he was a truly great player, he wouldn't have been involved in activities that he knew would keep him from playing and hurt his team.
  22. I saw both play at UHS. Looper is a threat every time he gets he ball and he makes offenses think twice after he hits them a few times. However, not sure they have as much depth as Gordonsville. I've heard that was the tigers worst game, but based only on what I saw against UHS, Monterey has a solid chance of taking this one.
  23. Torn between where to spend Friday night. In think DeKalb and Sparta will be a good game but I think there's a chance SC pulls the upset and that would be too good to miss.
  24. Haven't seen Coffee County but heard the Pioneers put on a respectable show in Cookeville. I hope they can pull this one out.
