  1. My two cents is that the TSSAA should informed teams that a final decision on the tournament will be made on the weekend of April 5th. Therefore, that can give teams a few days off and also let them have some light scrimmages. Then, make the decision on that week whether if the tournament is going to be played or not. If it will be played, girls will be on April 16-17, and the boys will be on April 22-25. Our only hope is that the TSSAA doesn’t fall in line and just cancel everything just because all of the collages have cancelled their games. There’s no doubt the media is blowing this thing out of proportion, who knows what it’ll be like in 3 weeks from now - hopefully good.

Here now!! Not to bad but it definitely isn’t jam packed!!

I haven't been to the Murphy Center in years for a girls state tournament, but I have seen videos on social media and it doesn't look good in terms of attendance. However, for Wednesday games, is this normal? Thinking that some fans can't get off work because of the short notice from Saturday night games... Just curious to see if this is normal for Wednesday games. Obviously, having AAA teams go today, doesn't help.

Negative I’ve never wished the rest would lose once Upperman was out. I promise you I’ll be SouthSides biggest fan if they beat Upperman. So you want the rest of us to believe they just magically went from 0-22/ 2-21/9-16 get beat down by 40 in the first round of the district tournament and the next year they are 34-4 state champs with same kids?  Put the pipe down and stop smoking that crazy stuff!

There's a school in Memphis that went 1-25 in the 2016/17 season. That one win, they won by one point.

In the 2017/18 season, they went 5-23

In the 2018/2019 season, they went 16-15

This year, they went an astonishing 29-4 and broke numerous school records.

Do you believe this school is cheating, too? Because what you said (what I indicated in bold) is very similar to this team.

  4. Trying to remember the last time West Tennessee had four finalists (in which they were all deserving) and two winners (in which they both are deserving as well). Well done by the players and the voters. Usually, they are wrong about something in other sports, but they got them correct in women's basketball. I wish Macey, Khyla, Chloe, and Tess the best of luck as they entered their last few weeks of high school seniors, and the best as they moved off to college in August. We are truly losing four amazing people!

Go Gibson County, Westview, and Greenfield! I'll be rooting for y'all as all of us have moved on to the diamond.

Why hasn’t some big time program signed her?  I just don’t understand!  Love her game and her attitude.  She will make someone an incredible PG at the next level!

Is it too late for a high school senior basketball player to sign and play D-1 ball? She's amazing and I can't understand what's the situation of what is going on with her. Hopefully, she's holding out for a school and/or she is planning on signing after the season. Hopefully!

I was thinking the same thing. I have been in education for a long time. Big and small school systems. It is unheard of to have baseball players participating in football scrimmages during baseball season. Very odd.

Agreed, usually players that play both sports they'll break it in half by semesters. Also, I don't expect there to be a "clear cut favorite" in baseball this season to reach Murfreesboro. Yes, Peabody and Huntingdon will be favorites in 1A, but there's not a version of "Greenfield in girls basketball" or "Peabody in football" to reach state in baseball.

Didn't get to make it like Id planned but heard it was 3-3.Not sure though.Heard LC lost one of their starters to a knee injury.Think it will be ok for football season but hes a key pitcher on the baseball team that has aspirations for a state title .Just what I was told.

If he was a pitcher, then why is he playing football?

It’s a disgrace to women’s basketball the way Huntingdon played the in the championship.  Weathers hitting the floor at least 10 times.  Knocking her mask off at least 2 times on purpose.  Son watched dad do it in the championship and thought he would beat the girl down.  Sad night!

Hey, I just want to say welcome to this thing called the playoffs. Last time I checked, we're now in March, correct? The possessions are limited, the physicality of the game will increase, there's more to play for. I'll recommend watching hockey. Go watch hockey now, then watch playoff hockey, it's two different things. And I love it. I'm sure you'll love it, too.

I think that tough schedule doesn't fair as well for them this year. That team they had last year was a once in a lifetime group! They played a physical brand of football & laid into everyone they were put up against. I know Puckett is going to do his best to get his boys ready, but I don't think they have the same caliber team as last year's group. They will probably go undefeated in region play, they will beat UC, but Crockett County, Westview, and Ripley will defeat them this year. Last year's team could compete with anybody, this year's bunch will more so resemble a 1A team! :thumb:

Stoppp Lake County will beat Westview this year. All LC have to do is score 21 points (if you know, you know), and I'm not buying in the Ripley hype until I see it. However, I wouldn't be shock if West Carroll takes down Lake County. I do believe 1A in West Tennessee will be down in 2020.

  10. From the west side of the state, I believe the two teams that will go will be north of I-40. A lot of turnmoil has happened in good ole West Tennessee this past offseason. I think 13-AA will be down drastically. I like Covington this year, but no one in West Tennessee have a legit shot, including Lexington.

Thanks for your kind words about SGC Jokur. I appreciate it. Speaking of private schools would you like to compare ACT scores from your high school to SGC? I certainly wouldn't mind taking a look at them. I take pride in the fact that we are educating kids to be productive members of society. Also, we do not need to save any money. SGC is going to go give Wooddale our best shot. We gave them a game last year and expect we will do the same again this year. That is the spirit of competition. I think our boys have that competitive drive to play hard regardless of who the opponent is. Thanks again for your kind words.

I thought this was about basketball, but since you went there.  Yeah I will compare ACT scores apples to apples.  SGC is at the national average (21), with the demographics that they have, it isn't anything special.  You do not have the same kids that these schools have.  There are kids at these schools that can compete academically with the best at SGC.  Meanwhile the private schools in the area have similar demographics and their average ACT scores are closer to 30.  SGC is a good school, but they have the luxury of having their demographics.  I really do think SGC is a good school, but it really makes me mad when you want to come at other schools in the area.  Look at what you got at SGC and what the other schools are working with.  Every decent person in education takes pride in what they do and wants to produce good productive members of society.  Yes SGC should make the trip and I hope they give them heck and win.  I wish the best of luck to both teams out of Region 7AA.  I want West TN to dominate every sport.

Hey, rook (@JacksonSportsFan07) please tell me what school that @ManOfMillions mentioned other than South Gibson? I'll be waiting

Welcome to CoachT, who's your school that you're representing?

Less than 24 hours from the game. Lets be honest folks. Most folks are getting the game that they want.

I personally, did not think that SGC had a chance to make it this far into the season. Considering what was lost from last years team I simply used basic logic and didn't think it would happen. Coach Wilkins and company really surprised me. They have played pretty good ball this year and have proven they can play with some of the best teams in the state. Also, lots of people talking about loosing the the guards.... I get it. The boys we had last year playing the 1 and 2 were great.... But the boys we have playing it this year are no slack either. Both are great athletes and got a really late start to BBall because of FBall.

Additionally, I know that on paper SSHS is favored to win it all, " has the hoopers ", has the tradition, and honestly has beaten everyone that stepped on the floor with them. I have not looked hard, but I can not find a chink in their armor. They can pretty much do it all.

I am by no means saying that SGC should be favored to win the game or we are going to win but I do think it is going to be a competitive game. I personally, think that SGC has played a tougher schedule than SSHS. I think this will be and advantage to the Hornets in a close game. Speaking of close games coach Wilkins and company have mastered the art of winning them in the past few years.

No one gave SGC a chance to beat them last year, but SGC found a way to get it done. They won that contest by 5 in a relatively low scoring contest. I think the hawks only had 2-3 losses coming into that contest, and have zero coming into this one.

In closing, I really hope that getting the refs from Memphis does not mean that its going to be street ball again on the court. I just want the refs to call a fair game and not make it biased towards 1 team or the other. Having Memphis refs letting street ball rules go will definitely help the hawks. Lets all just hope that we have a clean game that is decided by the players and coaches and NOT the refs!

If you think South Side is favored to win it all, then I think you're in a treat for Monday night. Needless to say, this is not an "elimination game" but it is an elimination game in my book. Has South Gibson played a better and tougher schedule than South Side? Absolutely, but I can't carry weight regarding to South Side games against the Missouri teams, I'm referring to Tennessee teams only. I will say that District 13-AA is weak in both boys and girls basketball, and we need to do a better job in basketball, because it's top heavy and the bottom teams aren't relevant by any means. Wouldn't shock me if South Gibson wins though. Want to be successful in basketball? Just hire a Wilkins and stay patient. Give me SGC +8.

Greenfieldfan, what’re your thoughts on Greenfield holding the ball for the last 1:30 of the third quarter and all of the fourth quarter?

I went to this game. I'm an advocate of installing a shot clock in high school basketball, tonight is another example.

Perhaps Coach Hookfin has offended patriotsnation in some form or fashion that none of us are aware of?? But 0-20 appears to be wishful thinking on patriotsnations' behalf. Hoofkins first three years at Liberty 2-8, 7-4, 12-2. First three years at Haywood 6-5, 10-2, 11-3. If i were a betting man I would put my money on Hookfin.

I'm going to say "hold your horses" real quick. I looked at their schedule off Max-preps  and they got plummeted a few times.  There closest margin of defeat was by 15, and they were beat by 30+ a few times. I would say they will probably win 2 or 3 times, but the point separation is so dramatic where if Heritage (Hookfin's team) improves and the opponents don't improve, the opponents will still have enough talent to win. A lot of times, Hookfin won games at Liberty and Haywood based on talent. Arguably one of the reasons why he didn't win the "big game."

Per sources. Arlington has been turned in for recruiting/ineligible players. Reasons being that they have proved a coaching link since several transferred from other city schools without a bonafide change of address. Also, they have supposedly proven recruitment of out of state players who are living either by themselves or with assistant coaches. Anyone else heard more about this? Can this be true?

Release your sources then..... You're making an attack at Arlington then coming back with a question of "Can this be true?" I mean, come on man....

I watch a bunch of games. Theirs so many good teams north of I-40 that keep me busy. I like to see all the good teams every season but theirs so many its impossible to do.

Agreed, the athletics in West Tennessee are better if you're north of I-40 than it is south of I-40. Basketball for sure, and you can add football to that as well.

Haskins is a good coach. He played a "traditional" style of half court basketball in the first half, and the pick and roll will give people problems... when we switched underneath, the pick rolled out for the three ball, and it didn't drop, but when we followed, the roll to the basket got easy shots, or another pass for the layup... might just come in handy later in the tournament.

Their press is good, but not as intense as South Side's. What I could tell from their pressure, was that they probably are quick and athletic enough to break SS's press, and attack the basket with numbers. Before y'all get too hard on Haskins, he knew he didn't have to throw all his cards on the table to win, and I'm pretty proud of our young ladies to have played well enough to even see the press in the second half. We lose only one senior, and should step up a notch or two (again) from last season... 2018-2019 we struggled to get a win in district.

Agreed, I think Haskins knew he didn't have to go all out on last night's game, which some people are upset by that I guess. I was impressed with Scotts Hill's girls basketball program this year.

  19. Yeah, the McNairy game was a surprised to me as well. I thought them and South Side would win, but eventually Dyersburg (which arguably should've lost last night) and Westview would be the two teams in region.

I want to say two years ago, a lot of McNairy people wanted him gone, won over 800 games but nothing legit to show for. With KWW now gone, who knows...

Question BPM. How close is SG to being 4A?

    3 hours ago, BIGPURPLEMACHINE said:

I thank no about 100 or less. I would say look at enrollments but next year will be the ones that matter. Tssaa will base the next classification cycle off of this coming fall enrollments

They need to be 4A, I think it'll be better for them to be 4A in football. It'll balance the Region 7-4A and it'll give Martin Westview fans realistic expectations to make the playoffs year in and year out. However, Region 7-3A can't afford to let Milan drop to 2A, them though it's a slim chance.
