  1. Just a question for the SC folks to consider and the Rebels to ponder: Why would Coach Quarles not play #17 much in the second half? He showed poise in the pocket, hit recievers in stride and escaped pressure while still looking down field. Could CQ respect SC and not want to score again? Could CQ not want everyone to think #17 is a better option than Vaught at QB the rests of the season? These are just thoughts not numbers, but the numbers were PRETTY good for #17.
  2. I figured vocabulary was not a strong suit for even some of our Rebel faithful. I am sorry for using words with more than one definition. Here is the definition that matches the post: "being the only one of the kind; unique; unsurpassed; matchless: the sole brilliance of the gem." Go REBELS!!!
  3. The sum of the parts is bigger than a sole. The two quarterbacks will be at least 70% as effective as Tyler. Everyone else will be 5% more effective due to knowing they have to pick up slack. End result is 20% more productivity. A couple of new twists on Offense will help as well. Rebels roll over the Bears as usual. In Football when the Rebels play, one person does not supersede the combined efforts of the team. Go REBELS!!!
  4. I was talking to my cousin and he mentioned what happened in 2000 with the quarterback switcheroo. Wilkes goes from QB to WR and DB, Giles goes to QB and 11 in a row to the championship. Wonder if that has crossed GQ's mind. Vaught is fast and would stretch the field at WR. Sometimes it is not about the best player playing a position, but the position a player can make the team the best it can be. SC will test an unpredictable secondary. Could get interesting. I cannot imagine anyone running consistently on this front 7. Good banter so far this week. Go REBELS!!
  5. Just finished my homework. West will give MHS all it wants if Cummings will go press man and stack the box. Back in 2004 it was a tough game until Cade and the boys started hitting some corner routes. Cade could throw much better than Tyler and the recievers were much harder to cover in man. Could be interesting, but the Big Red Machine scares too many away from attacking their weaknesses (DB's). Got to go to bed and get ready for that big test tomorrow.
  6. He ran the most basic running play he could FOUR times. If he had wanted to score 70, he would have. Last time I checked, the other team is supposed to stop the offense. Not the offensive team. Go eat your sour grapes.
  7. I am glad someone brought up the TN high game. It was 49-0 and could have been worse at half. I see a huge similarity with the defense of TN high and HHS. HHS has been running man free and man 2 the last 3 or 4 games. I do not think it is possible for anyone in TN to only have 5 men in the box and stop the run of MHS. TN high switched from cover 3 to cover 2 and MHS checked off to either run or pass depending on how many were in the box. It did not work out of their defense and I do not know how it will work out for HHS defense if they keep 5 of 6 in the secondary.
  8. Hopefully, the Rebels can handle the fullback like Lucas Tipton and company did to the big Hillsboro fullback in 2002. That guy had to be 240lbs while Lucas was about 175. Lucas stuck him! Calvin Bryant was actually 260 and Lucas hit him in the second quarter and put in on his back. I watched some highlights of him. I have never seen someone so skinny lay the wood so hard. That was one heck of a game. i hope we do not get pushed around like that. It took multiple trick plays and an on-side kick to win that one.
  9. Great HS football game. BHS was a great football team. I am glad the BHS coaches kept throwing it. Like I posted earlier, throwing the ball favors MHS. #2 has a cannon, but was only accurate with the quick hitters. Many have said it best: "maryville has great players." Example, Garrett #12 for MHS runs a 5 flat forty yard dash, but he is one of the most gritty winners/players I have watched. BHS had control of line most of the night. Their D was really good. Thank goodness for trick plays from coach Quarles! Have a great weekend and remember to buy your tickets at MHS not in Cookevile. Give MHS more $, not T$$AA.
  10. After watching the Oakland game earlier today, here are some keys: 1. Zone play for BHS scares me to death. MHS has to keep gap responsibility. RBs and QB are really good runners. 2. If BHS has to throw it, it will be over. The QB is not very effective with his arm. 3. NO WAY BHS can play defense against us like that. We will throw for as many yards as GQ wants to. 4. #11 is your best defensive player. 5. With some success in the running game for MHS, the play action will torch the Blaze. 6. This should be a GREAT game. Who can capitalize on opportunities will be the difference in this one. Happy Thanksgiving!
  11. They were not big and strong, but fast as lightning. We could not two hand touch the QB. Not very athletic up front in 09.
  12. All of the talk about numbers and points scores rolls down my street. I think if you look back turnovers is the huge key. Against Mo'West in 03, there were 6 turnovers and still could have won in OT. Bradley Central this year - 1st half, 6 possessions, 2 scores, 2 turnovers, and two large penalties that could not be overcome. If Coach Quarles does not get hurt by penalties or turnovers, it is very hard to shut him out. Attention to details and doing what his players can bests execute is a huge part to his success. The field is draining well. Good view of it from Library. It will be dry on Friday.
  13. Why are you not talking about the game or football? These pointless sidebars and meaningless banter just fill pages for the people that really want to know about this game. What about the game and Friday night? Thoughts/predictions/advantages/etc...
  14. What is wrong with asking the question. I heard in 05 when MHS played Melrose for the second time, but with a new coach, he watched film and did not think MHS looked very good. The players tried to warn him. The quote from coach "After beating Hillsboro, it doesn't matter if we are playing the Indianapolis Colts, will are going to be State Champs." I guess he underestimated the little non-athletic looking rebels. Remember - "Team beats individuals"
  15. This is the first year MHS has not had one-half day on Wednesday. They are selling student tickets. I have mine already. With several players going both ways, it could make a difference. The intensity that players can play with decreases when they have to play every play on both sides. Two tests and a quiz tomorrow. A five day weekend is a GREAT thing though. After hearing about BHS, wraping up in space will be the key IMO. Some good athletes in space, but passing game is not very intricate. BHS, when watching film, do the little white boys look like they can play?
  16. The same playbook since 7 years old is funny. They do not run the same stuff at the Junior High. If you want the truth, they do not run the same offense now that they ran back in early to mid 2000's. Coach Quarles as adapted to reading defenses and not trying to push you off the line every play. It is almost unfair when they run the zone read (hand-off one play, keep the next, and throw it the next) all off of the same action. Glad I do not have to stop him. Glad we have turf now.
  17. I need some information for my computations. How many players for BHS go both ways and what position are they? Let me make a comment about the MHS team in 2008 (White Station year). No disrespect, but perhaps the weakest team MHS has had under Coach Quarles. If we can beat BHS, I like our chances. Go rebels!
  18. I hope we can all remember there is a reason the Rebels do not have individual leaders in the area statistics. A team will always beat an individual. If anyone has any influence with a couple of players that like to make individual choices, perhaps you can explain 49 in the first half without them says TEAM!! Wish all the teachers weren't piling it one before Thanksgiving. Go Rebels!!!
  19. That article is from 2000. My cousin was on the team and use to tell stories about how bad the first 4 games were that year. He described the snow coming down in Murfreesboro as they were kicking the snot out%2
  20. That would be a first for the week. You have to appreciate Coach Quarles and his staff with their unwavering position on character above just winning. I can remember a couple of situations growing up where mistakes (selfishness) by players cost them games if not career. Coaches across the nation could take his lead or moral and ethical tenants.
  21. Anyone else at practice today to dispel this "troll"s facts.
  22. I find it funny that some of these "mature" adults live vicariously through these message boards. We will see who is rolling on the floor rw87 on Friday night. I think my boys will win, but selfishness can cost a team. I have to finish studying my FACTS!
  23. Trying to get all this homework done. I bleed red and black. Rw87 put your money where your mouth is on Friday night. If all the players play you win. If they do not, I guess this young nerd knows my FACTS!
  24. I promise my sources students at school today are much more reliable than yours. Maryville players out for the game. MHS better be ready!!!
  25. Information about missing players is not correct. Better check your sources. Huge boost for SC on Friday
