  1. Marion is starting the freshman team vs. Sequatchie tonight. I heard Sequatchie is doing the same..
  2. Ready for some football, just a couple days to go. Look forward to seeing all the teams. Heard Marion will be playing lots of young ones during the Sequatchie game due to already scrimmaging them and a 7 on 7. Maybe the starters will play against Whitwell...
  3. We were very young last season, really young. We lost Zeman, the fullback, but we return from last season on offense: four sophomores and one junior on the o-line, Junior First time QB moved from TE, a Sophomore TE. So we will have major improvements in experience on the offense line. Plus a QB transfer that can throw thew ball well, had over 2000 yards last season in Alabama. The two wing backs are more experienced and better. The Henderson kid had 1500 yards last season and is our best skill player . Much , much more speed at the other wing. Wideouts will be better than last due to experience and better athletes. Defense; we lost one linebacker, which was Zeman , one DT , nose guard, one cornerback and a safety. We will have upgrades at DT, nose, cornerback and Safety. Zeman was a heck of a LB and hard to replicate. We return 2 starting linebackers that were sophomores last year which both made all district and one made all state. A corner that started as a freshman last year, a four year starter at middle linebacker, and our d line could be much better this year with one sophomore that made all state last year and two new comers as starters but have some promise and have shown flashes, both juniors this season.
  4. yes, it just will have more depth to the playbook.
  5. I've been hearing two different stories, heard they looked rough vs. Boyd and then you hear they will compete for their region in 4A vs East Hamilton. So who knows? I do know that Brainerd's best tailback transferred to Hixson this season and will be starting. We scrimmaged against him last year and he is a pretty good looking back. They also have a nose tackle that was a load too.
  6. Was a practice more than a Scrimmage with board drills, some 7on 7, lots of special team work and then a short scrimmage of sorts towards the end. First string would take two snaps the 2nds got two snaps and so on. Not like a game scrimmage at all so kinda hard to tell a lot about either team. That being said, we are still way, way better at this point than last year at this same juncture. Consensus, Marion is going to be just fine. Line play was very good on both sides of the ball, on first string, then some fall off of course with the 2,3 and 4th groups. Henderson and Beasley have no trouble getting to the edges when needed, they can move. 1st team defense can be nasty.
  7. #40 is McClain, Hunter is #6. Both have gotten much bigger since last season.
  8. both away... CCS is @ 9 AM est Seq. is @ 6 pm cst
  9. @ CCS this Friday. @ Sequatchie next Friday
  10. add Hunter Downs to that mix as well. Probably the starter there.
  11. He played nose tackle during spring and was basically unblockable and showed some big time flashes. Not sure about offense right now but I will say there is not many two way players for Marion, especially lineman. But yes he is strong as an ox.
  12. yes i agree, there was very little rhythm to that 7 on 7 the way it was set up.
  13. My observations. Team is light years ahead of where this team was last year at this camp this time last year. Its not even comparable. During 7 on 7 portion, Bryce played much better than at Dunlap. Logan done good as well, both made some bad plays too with a few picks by Logan, just some bad decisions at times by both players but overall a very good 7 on 7 performance that keeps progressing. Receivers were much better as well. Harveston had some good grabs but so did the backs out of the back field and Hale stood out. Beasley continues to show out too with his quickness. Wideout will be much improved this year as far as pass game due to size and much more speed but they gotta block and you can tell that until the pads start. Defense keeps progressing since Dunlap with younger players picking it up in the secondary. Logan has a stronger arm no doubt but you can tell Bryce has played in the system a year. He looks more comfortable so far, especially in the run game portion of practice, IMO. Logan is doing great, just learning the system. The lineman camp was impressive too. Adairsville does a good job with the camp. Several Adairsville coaches stated that they couldn't believe the difference in the boys appearance in size and speed from one year to this year. Its very noticeable the conditioning program under Ross is working.
  14. Adairsville and Bartow Co. in a camp at Adairsville High in Georgia.
  15. Decent size, we are not small but there will be some larger teams than us in 2A. Grace last year was much larger than us. You guys would have the advantage, size wise on the line of scrimmage too. Ross does prefer the mobile lineman rather than the large size. Some of our biggest lineman will not play as much due to his system, which by that i mean its a face paced, no huddle offense.
  16. Silverdale took CCS spot in the Valley, CCS took Silverdale's spot in the Chattanooga Finley Jamboree.
  17. 1st Quarter: Lookout Valley vs. Bledsoe County 2nd Quarter: Silverdale vs. Whitwell 3rd Quarter: Grundy County vs. South Pittsburg 4th Quarter: Sequatchie County vs. Marion County Halftime Competitions Fastest Back Fastest Lineman (Numbers #50-79 Eligible) Longest Throw Longest Punt 5th Quarter: Silverdale vs. South Pittsburg 6th Quarter: Lookout Valley vs. Grundy County 7th Quarter: Whitwell vs. Marion County 8th Quarter: Bledsoe County vs. Sequatchie County Underline denotes team that will wear Dark/Home Jersey
  18. As of right now we are expecting to have 75 +/- kids. That is as big of a teams that I have ever known to be at Marion. We do not have a lot of seniors on the field contributing, we are very heavy with contributing Juniors in which a lot of them were starters on last years squad as sophomores. Next year could easily be the best team if a replacement QB is found, which Scott Barton's son looks the part and has the coaches very excited. This years sophomore class is large as well with several contributors that played significantly last year and some new faces as well, especially in the skill spots. This years offense should be much more dynamic, last year it was kept very basic because of time and first time QB. Defense, should be NASTY. We must replace Zeman at LB and Hayden Tuders at tackle. We return 4 year starter at MLB, Henderson's is arguably the best player on the field at safety, McClain at LB was very good last year and has gotten much bigger, and LB Kirkendoll looks like he has gained 25 lbs. of muscle. He will be a load this year. Tucker at DT should build on his All-State from last year as a sophomore too. Way to many starters are back that included many sophomores to not have a chance to be very dominate. I would be shocked if we were not. By grade breakdown and IMO best players in each class that started last year. I put in bold, a select few, is what i believe whom the game changers are, the guys that are very hard to deal with for the opposing team. Seniors, approx. 14: Walters QB, Massengale QB, Henderson RB/S, Wildermuth OT/DT, Baxter LB, Downs FB/S, Stephens K, Beasley RB Juniors, approx. 21: Kirkendoll LB, Murray RB, Tucker DT, Zeman LB/WB, McClain FB/LB, (Campbell, Walters, Morrison, Tucker; 4 offensive lineman that started all 15 games last year) Hefner OT/DT Sophomores, Approx. 15; Saylors WB/C, Freshman, Approx. 28
  19. i believe they will battle for third and fourth place in the district behind Boyd and Marion. What does Meigs return this year from last years squad that had a strong season?
  20. I can easily see a rematch again with Grace and Marion, especially if both teams stay healthy. Both teams return a lot of starters and depth. I believe the east runs thru these two early favorites.
  21. Portland never had a chance, we averaged over 15 games a score of 42 - 3 with 7 shutouts. Pirates are the only team that came close and that was a heck of a game and team too. Humboldt was a very good team, and that game broke open in the 4th quarter and was much much closer than the final score. Toby Champion (Lineman, 6-5, 290) played for the Vols and was an All American and Kelcey Williams was being recruited by everyone and expected to sign with Alabama, just couldn't keep the grades up. He was a terrific back that won Mr Football in 96'. That 95' season he broke the State record for touchdowns and points scored in a season. Humboldt was very good and had our full attention. John Tucker is a Hall of Fame coach too.
