  1. And that's how you end up with an embarrassing debacle in a consolation girls basketball postseason game. Basketball should be just like baseball/softball/soccer and just advance two teams to the region. BTW...spring sports in Alabama have their first contest when we have our first practice.
  2. Riverdale girls no doubt got creative on defense vs. Smyrna. They must have worked their tails off on that gameplan!
  3. So you're blaming your coaches? Or theirs? rotflmao!
  4. Just like baseball. And softball. And soccer. And girls' soccer.
  5. And let's not forget the fact that the RCS director basically just told the whole world that Tom Nolan is a weak administrator, and he has to handle his discipline for him. Two game suspension, eh, Tom? Well, we'll just see about that. Powell, on the other hand, didn't need Odom to discipline Middleton, because Middleton was never going to coach another game at Smyrna anyway. The suspension for Middleton only means he can't coach anywhere else in the county for a year. He was never going to be back at Smyrna anyway. How much will Barrett be supervised in the coming year? We'll see if Tom Nolan is willing to lose his job over his girls' basketball coach.
  6. Don't know if you've followed the whole story, but I'm pretty sure the Smyrna coach won't be having any contact with them...lol.
  7. Why take the top three? Baseball, softball, boys' soccer, and girls' soccer only take the top two. The only reason to have a consolation game and take a 3rd and/or 4th place team to the region is to generate more revenue for the TSSAA with all those extra games. Period. Pure and simple. From an equity standpoint, there is absolutely zero reason to take more than two teams.
  8. No. The girls are not "suffering" for the coaches decision. The girls are being punished because they willfully went along with a scheme that they knew was patently wrong. Either that, or they're the stupidest high school students to ever put on a uniform.
  9. Come on...surely you're smarter than that. Or maybe not. As a coach, I can justify playing a particular player, a particular defense, a particular offense, or whatever. You might disagree...but you can't PROVE my intent. Only a fool would equate those scenarios with intentionally shooting the ball into the wrong goal or intentionally dribbling into the backcourt. I'm not disputing, however, the ridiculousness of advancing 4 teams from the district in basketball...not to mention the unfairness when compared to baseball, soccer, and softball.
  10. I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that you are an astute enough basketball fan to grasp the difference between the circumstances you described and the absolute mockery that Riverdale and Smyrna made of that game. Nothing you described remotely comes close to intentionally dribbling the ball into the backcourt, trying to score in the wrong basket, shooting free throws over the backboard, or lobbing them six feet short of the goal. Surely you're smarter than that...right?
  11. 1. It goes without saying that both coaches are morons and deserve whatever punishment they get. 2. I'm going to assume...and yes, this is perhaps a very big assumption...that the girls aren't the absolutely stupidest kids ever to put on a uniform. So yes, they know it was wrong, they did it anyway, and they deserve to be punished. Spare me the BS about letting the "innocent" girls play. 3. And where were the two high school principals who apparently though they had better things to do than to attend a postseason basketball game that they were responsible for? If they had been there, they could have stopped it immediately. They didn't do their jobs, either. Punish them also. 4. And why were Riverdale and Smyrna even playing to begin with? Why do four teams advance to the region in basketball but only two in baseball, softball, soccer, and girls' soccer? Because the extra games in basketball generate $$$ for the TSSAA. Pure and simple.
  12. And I know parents of former players...yes, at Smyrna...who would say that's a crock of BS.
  13. And this is unbelievable because...??? lol! If you're going to apply for a position working around large numbers of young people, and one that raises vast amounts of cash, and you're also going to be responsible for supervising a coaching staff, you darn well better be prepared for a very thorough proctological exam. As you should be.
  14. ROTFLMAO!!! Shadowens left MTCS to take the Blackman job...pure and simple. He just used that little school and bided his time until Blackman came open. Anyone who says otherwise is clueless. MTCS people are probably laughing their heads off right now. And as far as lying about a so-called "contract", if some sugar daddy donor gives the guy a house to live in, or whatever, and then he reneges, how in the devil is that a lie about a contract, given that the sugar daddy supplying the benefit has no authority to sign a contract? Do yourself a favor...go back and do some research into the process when Shadowens was initially rejected by the MTCS board. Big article on the front of the DNJ sports section. Who was the source being interviewed? The MTCS president? No. School board chair? No. School board member? No. The HS principal? No. The AD? No. It was the sugar daddy. On the front page of the DNJ sports section...sugar daddy being interviewed about the Shadowens hiring process. MTCS got what they deserved by chasing after the guy. A private school may be able to get away with under the table payments to coaches, but public school programs cannot. Did the Blackman principal know what she was doing? You bet your #### she did.
  15. rotflmao...10 sigs! nice! Maybe MTCS will take him back. Their boosters probably don't have the resources to funnel that kind of cash under the table any more, though.
