  1. Whoa, hold on there a minute. Calling the style of ball Marshall County plays cowardless is way out of bounds. No doubt they like to control the tempo & keep the contest in the 40-50 point range, but I like to think they're adjusting their style to the level of talent they have. I'd say it's worked pretty well so far, 11-6 overall 3-3 in the district after a horrible season last year with only three wins. And I think I remember one of those 11 wins being a 10 point win over a teamed named Loretto earlier this year in a game that really wasn't that close !!! Now, that said, do I think we'll win at Loretto ? It will be tough. The Lady Mustangs are a really good team that MC has a lot of respect for. And they always seem to play lights out & shoot extemely well when we play down there. It's an uphill battle for the Tigerettes for sure. A lot of tough battles between these two teams over the years. I hope this Friday night's game is a good one to remember. Oh yeah & I hope the score is in the 40's....although we did hang 60+ on Lewis County this year. I'll be listening.
  2. Pageman, I love all the info you put out & I admire the way you plug the district in ALL sports. But I must disagree with you on one thing you said. Lewisburg's win over Loretto was NOT a fluke !! I saw it first hand, the Tigerettes were by far the better team that night. I'm not saying Lewisburg will beat them again in Loretto, but when they played the first time, Lewisburg was much better & Loretto did not shoot or play very well. If Lewisburg had a fluke win, it was at Lewis County. That's why this Friday is such a big game with a lot of question marks.
  3. Barring injury this will Lewisburg's best chance at a big run since the 80's. With a healthy Mario Davis & some holes filled on defense, it could be a really big year.
  4. Pageman....I really admire your dedication to District 9AA in the postseason. There's not a whole lot of people that would follow other teams as well as you have once their favorite team was knocked out of tourney play. I hope you made some new friends in Lewisburg...we might even need to make you an honorary Lewisburgian. And you don't need to be listening to the broadcast, you need to load up & go with us to Memphis !!!
  5. I don't know if he said anything or not at the end as emotions were pretty high. But for anyone who thinks there wasn't a foul on the last shot by Johnson wasn't watching or certainly was hoping it wasn't one. I was looking straight at the play from my vantage point & no doubt Sparkman got him on the arm. And the intentional foul was on #33 Pigg.Tough call at that part of the game. There were several bad (& no-calls) on both teams. And the play right before halftime was a foul on Lewisburg that went uncalled so maybe things have a way of evening up. Both teams did not play very well & will have to be much better if they're going to wind up second in the district. What a wide gap it is between Giles County & the rest of us.
  6. Lewisburg hits a shot with 2 seconds left to win...Page tries to get a timeout but refs don't allow it. Great game.
  7. Marshall girls 41-38 BA boys 69-52
  8. Haven't had the chance to see him play this year, but watching him last year as a freshman was something special to see. Without a doubt, one of the best, if not the best, freshmen I've ever seen on a basketball court. If his game improves as he matures, he will really be something as a senior. Which can come none too soon if you are a district rival of Giles County.
  9. Lewis County 46 Marshall Co. 37 It was 20-18 Marshall at the half.
  10. No,no,no. Marshall County's assistant principal was on the Tiger sideline, not the Crockett County sideline when he was ejected. He was ejected from the sidelines after he asked the referees if it was proper for " referees " to be cheering for one team over the other. He was referring to the chain crew ( which was made up of refs from that area dressed in their uniforms ). Pretty fair question when you consider NO chain crew, dressed in either street clothes or referee uniforms are supposed to be cheering one way or the other. I can understand three local guys on a regular season Friday night getting carried away once in a while, but not a chain crew made up of refs. Besides our horn blower, the only other fan I heard about getting singled out was a band parent helping set up for halftime protesting a call against the Tigers for blocking below the knees...on DEFENSE. If there's 10 people out there who have seen that call ever made before that Friday night I'd like to hear from them. I've talked to two veteran officials from different parts of the state.. neither had ever seen that call or more importantly ever made that call in their long careers. Enough said. Game is long over & no doubt about it, Crockett County was the better team. [Edited by tigerman on 12-3-02 12:19A]
  11. Either the Crockett County team that blew us away last week didn't show up tonight or Ridgeway must be one heckuva team. Perhaps a little bit of both. I'll have to admit, while I was rooting for Crockett to go on & win the state championship, I'm not that suprised they lost tonight. They played the game of their lives last week & that it hard to do twice or three times in a row at this stage of the game. Anyway congratulations to them on an outstanding season. Perhaps, just perhaps, we can cross paths again in the third round next year HERE in Lewisburg.
  12. Marshall County wins this ballgame & it won't be that close. Tigers have too much speed & big play ability & defense the run pretty good. As far as comparing scores against Sycamore, the Tigers led 35-7 at halftime & then called off the dogs since Mac & Coach Tharpe are good friends. Otherwise it could have easily been 70-14. Let's see 70-14=56. 55-7=48. If you could use that as a comparison ( and you really can't) Tigers win. The unknown in this one...what type of effect will a rainy night have on the teams.

ALL WILL BE GONE AFTER THE SECOND ROUND Wrong !!!!!!!!
  14. Sycamore is in it's 4th year of playing varsity ball. Yes, Marshall Co is extremely good and has defeated the War Eagles badly each of those years. But remember the first year shs had only 10th graders and the second year only 11th graders. So the blow out scores are somewhat misleading. Again, I agree Marshall has dominated the series between the 2 schools. Marshall has plenty of good kids, athletes, and coaches. Sycamore has good kids and coaches and has made the playoffs in 2 of 3 seasons and arent out of the picture this year. And by the way, how long has it been since Marshall Co. has made it to the quarter finals? Not in Sycamore's time! Tigers last in the quarterfinals in 2000----lost to Jackson Southside 7-6 on a horrible field. This year's Tiger-Sycamore game ? Complete domination by marshall county. It was 35-3 with 5 minutes to go in the first half. Coach mac eased up on the gas in the second half or it would have been a whole lot worse.
