  1. King at 138 is not coming down with the Irish? I had heard he was
  2. Three victories over Baylor, wins over Cleveland/Baylor/Bradley in the same weekend, a drubbing of MBA in which Ryan won 13/14, a "perfect match" over MUS (84-0), and a sweep of the state titles...this Ryan squad was one for the record books. Coach Simpson better guard his water supply, whatever he's putting in it is working!
  3. Champions: Christian Simpson (113) Trey Chalifoux (120) Ray Eason (126) Kirby Simpson (132) Eli King (138) Ben Stacey (220) Jeremy Darvin (285)
  4. A strong consolation round for Baylor leaves the Irish looking at their nine finalists to bring home the championship!
  5. 106: Killian (FRHS) vs Griggs (CBHS). I believe Griggs has won twice this season by a single point, that could be a barn burner 113: Simpson (FRHS) 120: Chalifoux (FRHS) 126: Eason (FRHS) vs Herring (McCallie). Again, a Ryan wrestler who has dropped two to his opponent this season, but you can't count out a defending state champ. 132: Simpson (FRHS) 138: King (FRHS) 145: Murphy (Baylor) 152: Tossup 160: no idea 170: no idea 182: Whimper (Baylor) 195: Parker (Baylor) 220: Stacey (FRHS) 285: Darvin (FRHS)
  6. Rumor round these parts is that Lebanon brought their own scale to the FRHS tournament (and presumably others) and had their 106 wrestler weigh on those...folks I've talked to have claimed that scale was 1.5-2.0 pounds light. I feel bad for the young man but that may shine some light on why what happened, happened
  7. Irrelevant, the real question is could the 1996 Ryan team beat the 2020 Cleveland squad
  8. First, this is an embarrassing video to have on what looks like an official team channel. Second, it's hard for me to care about what top is doing when bottom is making absolutely no discernible effort to escape. Bottom guy going crazy and top is riding his ankle? I'd start looking for stalling. Bottom guy is content to lie on his hip for seven seconds? No call
  9. That is what we're discussing, you said earlier that you didn't think this years Ryan team could have beaten last years Cleveland team, I was just remarking that LAST years Ryan team beat last years Cleveland team.
  10. Bias aside, this Ryan team has to be one of the best wrestling teams the state has ever seen. An undefeated dual season that included matchups against Wilson Central, Cleveland, Bradley Central, Moeller (OH), Baylor (x3), and McCallie (x2)...it's almost unfathomable what Coach Simpson and the Irish accomplished this year.
  11. Bonus points has been the Ryan way all season, and that continued tonight. The crowd was great, the refs were bad, and the Irish were clearly the better team tonight. Way to go, boys!
  12. Early frontrunner for "Worst Officiated Match of the Season"
  13. You're wrong. He is Frank's son, and attended seminary school but was never ordained. He is now married and a coach at CBHS
  14. It WAS still an event between the programs and schools - Ryan was bringing varsity and as many JV as they could, and NCW was bringing far more wrestlers to Memphis than CBHS brought to Nashville; as another poster already noted, the MS program only brought their good kids last year. So again, the only "de-escalation" that Ryan was going to do was bring fewer JV...but more middle school. For CBHS to cancel like they did - via text on Thanksgiving - was absolutely shameful. I'm sure if Lewis could have texted the TSSAA to cancel this past weeks Regionals he would have done so.
  15. TOS has been lying through his teeth this entire thread - here's his incredulous reaction to claims that CBHS cancelled in December, which is obviously contradicted by his admission that he knew of the cancellation "before Ryan did." Par for the course for the school out west
  16. The MBA wrestler eye gouged twice and then wrenched single fingers twice, causing enough damage to the Ryan wrestler that I saw him with ice wrapped around his hand. It was a disgusting display that seemingly went unpunished by the MBA coaches - I was able to attend this one, and after the match was called, MBA appeared to go after the refs for calling the match. I understand the frustration that comes with losing 13/14...at home...on senior night...but that was ridiculous, and a sad ending to the night
  17. Further, IF Ryan was only going to bring their varsity (which, again, they weren't) wouldn't the preparations that were apparently so burdensome for CBS be eased significantly by that? Your whole line of reasoning is ridiculous
  18. You obviously have zero knowledge of what happened in November. The entire NCW team was prepared to travel to Memphis, as well as several JV wrestlers and the whole varsity...it was all rendered moot though when Christian Brothers cancelled the duel. This past Saturday gave us some insight as to why Coach Lewis was in no hurry to wrestle the Irish
  19. You know, I've sent three kids through Catholic schools K-12 and never thought about the "rationale" behind having a different tuition for Catholics and non-Catholics. But yes, at both the parochial school I sent my children to and Father Ryan, non-Catholics paid substantially more.
  20. Good point - kids Ryan would allegedly be "recruiting" would be the non-Catholics, and parents wiling to part with $72,000 in the interest of their kid furthering their wrestling career are few and far between...especially when free, open enrollment schools like BC are so readily available DaChamps has been disparaging the Irish all year, which just absolutely reeks of sour grapes.
  21. Yes, I would like to know which wrestlers the Irish recruited as well. As another poster noted, Ryan has benefitted from the Nashville Catholic program for years now - they aren't a "go out and get them program," those boys are homegrown. This silly, passive aggressive sniping at the "recruiting schools" falls on deaf ears when the aggressor is a Bradley homer - your school has free, open enrollment! If Ryan went after a kid and Bradley went after a kid, I would venture a guess that Ryan's $13,000 tuition would turn away 9/10 kids. Stop playing the victim, BC isn't one of the "little schools" that the privates annually beat up on, this years Irish smackdown notwithstanding
  22. Or, you know, what great coaching and a phenomenal work ethic can produce
