  1. Congrats to both Father Ryan and McCallie - neither seemed to get much respect from posters here throughout the season but showed up when it counted. Maybe the best Father Ryan has looked this year, and at times it appeared they were facing two opponents; not the best performance from any of the three zebras rotating on that mat. Irish got an absolutely massive pin at 182, followed up by pins at 220 and HWT. Baylor appeared content to lock up that "Baylor Stall" on top - no real sense of urgency to try and keep up with FR on bonus points. McCallie looked strong too - won a couple I hadn't predicted and kept bonus points to a minimum. Coach Lewis has to be disappointed, this was probably the Bros best chance at a Duals title in years
  2. Great discussion! So many incredibly talented wrestlers right now. My vote has to go to King. Want evidence of how feared he is? Go watch a replay of FR/McCallie from last week: King walks onto the mat, Dendy stays on the sideline.
  3. For what it's worth, Simpson and Whitworth weighed in within 1.5 pounds of each other (Simpson at 112 and Whitworth at 110.5)...hardly "wrestling up"
  4. Not sure if I understand your logic about Killian, losing to the state champion (and finishing second yourself) bumps you out of the Top 5? And of the other kids you mentioned, Killian majored one and another (Sesnan) couldn't even make weight at Regionals. CBJ, that is fascinating about Eason, I had no idea he was injured; to overcome two prior losses to an opponent while also requiring major surgery takes guts. He sure is fun to watch
  5. Chalifoux looked great at National Preps, West Point is lucky to have him (and Parker!) The Chalifoux/Mullin match at Bradley was high-level wrestling for 6 minutes. Killian majored Pond at Cleveland, don't believe he wrestled any of the others
  6. If I'm not mistaken Killian beat every 106 he faced in the state except Griggs and Dezember (the AAA 5th place); he majored the 4th place finisher. With that being said, Griggs beat him 3 times, though from what I hear he's no longer in the mix to make 106. PennState has some great points, Eason wasn't even Ryan's 120 at state, and no one from Tennessee is beating Chalifoux. Eason obviously found something special to overcome two previous losses to Herring at state, but I think Mullin would be the clear frontrunner at 126; he and Chalifoux had a battle at the Bradley tournament. Evans/Boykin would be a fantastic matchup, though River Henry's great showing at Prep Nationals makes me want to see more of him; I caught two of his matches and he looked like a monster in the making (although obviously Evans and Boykin have already reached monster status).
  7. Fuller and King in the same lineup? That's a wrap, folks! Who else do we have going down? The foundation laid at 132 and 138 would seem to bode well for TN
  8. My apologies, Coach Smith! Thanks for the clarification, I'm not entirely sure how I got those mixed up...egg on my face! I would have paid money to attend those practices! Fuller lost during the Cleveland Duals match to Ryan's 132, right? I still think King could take him Congrats on an incredible season
  9. Always the victim, Texas. I never said he was "lucky," I gave the kid credit for a good win...but having seen both matches, I just think Eason is the better wrestler. Even the best get caught sometimes, it's the nature of the sport. All credit to McElhaney for capitalizing when he had the chance
  10. Is Horst for sure going to Beech? I know he's wrestled for several different clubs in MS
  11. Bradley won that tournament by what, 11? That's a couple King pins. Further, the Irish didn't even enter a 170 pounder and brought JV for two other weights. All due respect to a great Bradley team this year but Ryan was on another level, as evidenced by their rather convincing Cleveland Duals win over BC
  12. Congratulations are definitely in order for Baylor. Wish Father Ryan had brought more kids down, between King and the two Simpsons I think TN could easily have had two Top 10s. A note about three wrestlers: it was especially satisfying to see Powell wrestle all the way back from a first round loss to snag 5th; that's all heart (and probably some technique). Duhm ended his fantastic season on a high note, and 12th seed River Henry (4th) has to enter next year as the HWT favorite.
  13. Eason smoked McElhaney the week before at Cleveland Duals and then got caught in a roll when McElhaney pinned him (all due credit to Mc, he DID find a way to stick a two timer). I'd still take Eason to win 8/10 in that matchup. King would beat any 138 in the state by 6. His absence was the only reason Bradley was able to eke out a win at their own tourney. And I really don't know if there's anyone more dangerous on their feet than Whimper, 182 would be a battle.
  14. Whimper (D2) would win at 182 and I'd take Stacey (D2) up against just about anyone at 220. I also think Darvin-Evans II would be a classic
  15. I see what you're saying, but Darvin was also in a room crawling with defending state champions. According to his coach, he practiced with 2x state champ Ben Stacey every day. Plus, the kid is a genetic freak of nature who obviously also has an incredible work ethic to boot. Point being, you can have 50 kids who run a 4.4 40 in the room but if they aren't drilling and going live with experienced wrestlers every day, all the coaching in the world won't be enough to compete with the kids Baylor and Ryan put out every year
  16. Baylor arguably has pockets just as deep as Ensworth...FRHS has kept up with them just fine. I think a feeder program is even more important than money, and right now Ensworth's MS is virtually nonexistent. I'd wager that you put 14 first year "athletes" against the seasoned wrestlers Baylor and the Irish produce and Ensworth doesn't win a match
  17. And in convincing fashion! Hated to see how he was relegated to the consolations but you always love to see a kid battle back after a loss. Tennessee wrestling has been lucky to have him represent the state so well these past years, West Point is getting a good one!
  18. Chalifoux, Whimper, Henry win and will wrestle for 3rd. Parker, Duhm lose and will wrestle for 5th
  19. Chalifoux, Whimper, Duhm win and advance to the consolation semis. Parker loses 13-5 to the #2 seed in the championship semis. Henry loses to the #1 seed in the championship semis.
  20. Chalifoux wins his conso quarter in OT. Whimper, Duhm coming up in consolations. Parker and Henry are ahead in the championship semis
  21. Yes, he did. Can we put this to rest now? The troll appears to have gone back in his cave. Fans of Tennessee wrestling should feel proud for the display our boys put on today. Looking forward to seeing numerous medalists on the stand tomorrow
  22. Fair enough, but just a final word that Ryan has been the target of trolls all season (the "Ryan is running from CBHS!" posts immediately spring to mind)...the account looks like it was recently created and hasn't posted until today, a sure sign of a troll account. I really wouldn't take it personally, best to just ignore
  23. Sorry, "It goes farther than that" was cryptic
  24. Post time was 23 hours ago, the troll didn't start stirring the pot until 4 hours ago. I don't think there's a conspiracy here, just a low effort troll. Back to the topic at hand, it looks like Henry (McCallie) and Parker (Baylor) live to fight in the semis tomorrow
