  1. To give you an idea of how ranking work in most other states here is the current rankings for Tennessee from M Preps based on the NCAA method...not a popularity contest. 1 Knoxville Catholic (Knoxville) 6-0 66.8 31.9 +2 2 Brentwood Academy (Brentwood) 4-1 63.9 27.9 -1 3 Oakland (Murfreesboro) 5-0 60.9 25.0 -1 4 Bradley Central (Cleveland) 5-0 57.0 31.7 -- 5 Independence (Thompson's Station) 5-0 53.7 27.8 +1 6 Maryville 6-0 53.6 27.4 -1 7 Baylor (Chattanooga) 5-1 51.7 24.9 -- 8 Montgomery Bell Academy (Nashville) 5-1 51.5 28.2 -- 9 Cane Ridge (Nashville) 6-0 51.1 28.4 -- 10 Memphis University (Memphis) 6-0 50.2 21.7 -- 11 Ensworth (Nashville) 4-2 48.1 38.9 +1 12 Lausanne Collegiate (Memphis) 5-0 47.2 18.5 -1 13 Centennial (Franklin) 5-1 46.4 20.5 -- 14 Franklin 4-1 46.3 33.9 -- 15 Pearl-Cohn (Nashville) 5-1 45.0 25.1 +11 16 Greeneville 5-0 44.6 16.7 +1 17 McCallie (Chattanooga) 4-2 44.6 29.9 +8 18 Whitehaven (Memphis) 6-0 44.2 18.9 -- 19 Alcoa 5-1 43.7 17.2 -4 20 Stratford (Nashville) 6-0 42.9 12.4 +12 21 Smyrna 5-1 42.6 19.1 +1 22 Harding Academy (Memphis) 4-1 41.2 18.8 -3 23 Christian Brothers (Memphis) 5-1 41.1 19.9 -3 24 Mount Juliet (Mt. 2. http://wp.me/p7xj2l-jr That's because I have been assigned Middle Tennessee by M Preps to cover the region as one of the fastest growing high school football regions in the country. More D1 players have come out of this region than any other in the southeast. I have been covering high school football in the mid west out of Ohio for 28 years...Things are totally different down here. Sports writers vote on pols but there in no criteria for the vote so basically its a popularity contest and when only a 3rd of the eligible voters vote and 70% of them are from East Tennessee its no wonder the polls are always skewed. In Ohio the polls are based like the NCAA, Games won, points scored, defense and strength of schedule. Polls here in Tennessee are based on nothing. Just trying to create conversation..
  3. Your welcome to follow me on twitter @OhioTennBoy or online at unapproved website or AIA or Associated Press or Fox 17
  4. Im not sure where your getting your numbers from as "similar numbers" but here are the reall numbers and it doesn't include the 62-0 win from last Friday.. http://wp.me/p7xj2l-jr and once again no one from Maryville can say anything without references the past...Its this year we are talking about.
  5. Well then smart guy, why don't you tell us all how wonderful Maryville's stats are this year...
  6. One thing your not seeing is Rutherford is not the county of the past. Its the fastest growing county in the southeast US which is now giving the county schools a level of player they have not had before. unapproved website has listed Rutherford County as one of the top counties for high school football growth in the nation. No ones knocking your loyalty to your team but sometimes you have to look at the numbers. Just look up both teams right here on CoachT and compare their numbers so far this year. Comparing total points scored, total points given up, total yards on offense and total yards given up on defense. Then compare the teams they have played and their numbers. Oakland hasn't been close in any game they have played and their defense is currently ranked #3 in the nation. We all know its going to come down to the playoffs but this Oakland team is far beyond the Oakland team of last year. I have no bias as I cover all the teams in Rutherford County and ive seen them all many times. There is no one here that will even give them a game this year. They have no weaknesses..
  7. Last I checked Maryville lost last year so by your logic just because they won 2 years ago they should be ranked 1? Each year should be ranked independently of the prior year and this is the biggest problem with high school rankings. If they used a system that made sense based upon points scored, defense and total yardage and strength of schedule then it would be something to talk about. Placing Maryville at the top by East Tennessee sports writers is totally bias. Every year should be a stand alone year and if it was then the stats speak for themselves.
  8. point of a sports writer is to tell the facts and create conversation. No where in my statement will you find any bias, just thought provoking statements of fact. Im sorry its over your highly educated comprehension to be able to have a civil conversation about the facts. And by the way Ive been doing sports writing years longer than you were born. The problem on here is people like you who are nothing but bleacher creatures think they know it all but hide behind the post because they cant have a conversation about any facts.
  9. The point of any sports writer is to tell the facts and create conversation. No where in my statement will you find any bias, just thought provoking statements of fact. Im sorry its over your highly educated comprehension to be able to have a civil conversation about the facts..
  10. Why is it that the Maryville faithful can never come up with a legitimate argument on why their team is better this year other than involving the past? It seems to me it's too much like " My Daddy can beat your Daddy" attitude. I would think that the superior educated Maryville faithful would be able to come up with an intellectual argument showing their teams worth. And if they happen to loss this year that would be 2 out of the past 3 losses. Doesn't that mean the mighty rebels are faltering? God forbid, East Tennessee may self destruct.
  11. Smyrna has over come the loss of Perkins and maybe the most well rounded team in the county. They have improved each week and I look for them to continue to roll until they meet Oakland in the final week.
  12. If poles don't matter watch what happens if they flip Maryville and Oakland. East Tennessee will never stop crying out!! Poles should never be based on history from prior years but in Tennessee that's a top priority in voting. If you base it soley on the numbers, offense vs defense, points scored vs points allowed, strength of schedule and wins and losses of opponent's, points scored vs points given up by opponent's in their other games, total offensive yards allowed vs total yards gained then taking out past history of prior years you would have to put Oakland above Maryville in the poles. There is no logic to justify other....But im sure the Maryville faithful will try and find a away..
  13. Smyrna needs to be careful. This could be a trap game for them. Siegel has gotten a taste of victory and can do a lot for a team. Keep in mind they played Ravenwood close and was beating them up to the last 2 minutes of the game.
  14. You hit it right. The defenses the opponents of Oakland have played have not given up as many yards as Maryville's opponents. And in playing stronger defenses it natural that the scoring point totals will be less. I'll do a follow up on the rushing and passing yards allowed for both teams opponents..
  15. What ever happened to the days when Warren, Lincoln and Coffee Counties were travel games that teams feared? This looks like a losing homecoming for Warren County. At least you can enjoy the festivities..
  16. Your right but its our job as press to look at the current and the possibilities and that all the article speaks to is comparing the numbers and the creating a thought process. Looking back at the past only limits the thought process. Have some imagination and compare. This may be the year that your O pulls one out.
  17. Oakland is beginning to separate themselves from the rest of that pack and starting to draw attention from East Tennessee. How do they stack up by the numbers against Maryville? Take a look.. https://t.co/oKy53l1WT2
  18. Good win for Siegel. Maybe Cookeville not what everyone had been saying they were..
  19. After week 5 its natural to start comparing the No1 and No2 ranked 6A teams, Maryville And Oakland. How they stack up so far by the numbers...Take a look. https://t.co/oKy53l1WT2
  20. Hospital Bowl....Smyrna will use this one to get all their starter healed and their seconds could put some of the Pioneers in therapy...
