  1. Happy Thanksgiving Football people, that's really what's it's all about, Thanks & Gratitude, serving others, our neighbors, friends & enemies and of course our creator & genesis of all beings & things Jesus Christ. It's ultimately not about W's or L's, tfl's or completion %, oops (what was his name? 12aa) don't wanna go over his head. Anyway to step away from the banter & analysis for a minute "Happy Thanksgiving to All Win Lose or Draw" I'll get back to the analysis soon(only compelled to do it during Playoff Football so about a 2-3 weeks max)
  2. Just imagine how good Stratford could be if they played good solid football. Kick the ball deep(into the endzone) make the opponent go 80+ yards on that defense. Play ball control, have a good solid punt game to flip the field. Utilize some angle blocking, some power leads, zone reads, RPO's, traps & misdirection With what they do, they beat themselves and even limit themselves when winning
  3. Just curious Swarm, what was yall's average starting field position Friday night? What does yall's drive charts look like? Just wondering They had to be pretty good, I assume Yall didn't have to go 75, 80+ all night did yall?
  4. 4 & outs Firebird, and I don't think Stratford plays the cerebral game Firebird, don't know that they intentionally know or utilize the run the clock concept thou it is a natural byproduct of their offense. They'd prolly throw the ball excessively & run oob with the lead. Otherwise why all the atypical decisions. No kicking, punting game, little punt protection, going for it on 4th deep in own territory, KO's to the 45, go for it on 4th & 5 on own 20 but kicking shaky 1pt xp from 2 1/2, playing beat ourselves football repetitively. You have to be awfully good to continually overcome those issues Covington defense will be solid, they will capitalize on litany of mistakes. To have a chance Stradford will have to stay ahead of the chains. Stratford will have to play every snap
  5. Glad to see you clarify your intellect Swarm. Several things. It's not a case of Coach King not being a smart guy & a good coach(I concur that he is) It is however a matter of they have more Dray's & Draymond's. (95% of the time it's the Zeke's & Zoe's regardless of coaching). Reference them beating yall desite all the follies. And I am not/was not being derogatory toward yall's 150 lbers. That's just the truth is it not Swarm? yall's RB's and majority of defense are small kids, just facts , why is that derogatory? And prolly 4:9+ 40 times. It'd being wrong to say or call it anything other. And not saying Covington wins but I am & will say if they go for it on 4th & 2, 3, 1, 4, 5 deep in their territory against Covington they won't be converting 100% and when they don't Covington will be shooting Roman Candles & lighting the sky with fireworks I realize they are in a bad predicament with the alternative. Their punts when getting em off aren't that beneficial so I see the dilemma. Covington will try to block it as well And does Stratford not have a kicking tee? I noticed the kid setting it up in the grass off the ground like backyard on that last kickoff. I'll buy/get em a tee if they need one
  6. Swarm, show me you got some intelligence. I don't care if you're the New England Patriots or The Alabama Crimson Tide 1. If your team goes for it on your own end on 4th down & 1,5,4 or 3 on a regular & repeated basics early & often(and that's your best option) 2. If & when you punt the football it's a hope & a prayer it makes it back to LOS & it's a good punt if it goes for + 6-7 yards 3. You give your opponent KO field position at or near midfield and that's the norm, best case scenario> 4. Your best option on 4th down is to turn & hand the football to standing RB(no lead blocker or deception whatsoever) 5-7 yards deep BLOS or a WR screen & do this numerous times, Just to name a few You're gonna get BEAT . You're gonna be 2-8 Another thing Swarm, I want you to run this thru your mind. How do you win? and something as simple(or seemly complicated) as this (mathematics) can easily cost you the game & loser Go Home(all you gotta do is win by 1pt) You(your team is up by 12) and instead of thinking ahead and going for two to put your team ahead by 14, you of all teams choose to use your iffy pat kick for 1 giving your opponent a more favorable chance possible Logify this Swarn, We can/will go for it on 4th & 5 on our own 22 in the (1st Qrt) of a 7-7 or 0-0 game but we gon kick PAT instead of going for TWO on the 2 1/2 yard line to put us up by 14 late in 4th Qtr. All that risk, Risk giving opponent ball on own 20 but can't go for 2 1/2 yards for no risk 2pts. How do you pick that W. Just wondering Swarm
  7. Not so fast my friend.. You not gonna beat Covington allowing starting field position at or near midfield You not gonna beat Covington going for it on 4 down(whether it be 4th & 1 or 4th & 5) on your own end of the field, it will be a running clock early if so You're not gonna beat Covington punting the football back to the LOS You're not gonna beat Covington snapping the ball over QB/RB's head and losing yardage(negative plays) You not gonna beat Covington losing turnovers(fumbles, interceptions) Covington is way better than Fairview(take a look, tell me your take), Covington would beat imo Fairview like 56-14 or 56-0, something like that. With that being said Fairview was in the game and could of with a few busted plays beaten Stratford, despite the talent, size & speed disparity they(Stratford didn't run away with it or ever really put em away). Punts for negative yardage, snaps overhead for 20-30 yard loses, 4 for 4 at least (100%) on 4th down attempts, that's a rarity, kicking extra points when actually going for two was the logical thing to do, giving up starting field position at mid field etc.. And tell me, was most of Fairview's defense and 4 RB's/QB all less than say 155-165 pounds. And for real, is it not true that none of FHS's backs would start on either Covington or Stratfords team, is that not accurate? I think Stratford is content, they look happy with what they've accomplished by beating PC. They didn't look too inspired verse FHS. Did you guys agree? As with Covington, I don't think they were thinking they'd beat PC again this year after getting em last yr, however when they, coach's, players, fans and all heard PC had gotten upset their eyes and spirit were delighted. Their road to Cookville just got paved was the overwhelming thoughts Google search Covington vs Melrose 2 Nov 2018 youtube, they're playing a similar team (Melrose) to Stratford thou not as overall talented as SHS. Watch that game and see what ya think Hard to win Playoff games when you gotta overcome all the obstacles Hard to win any game when you allow yor opponent to start possessions at mid field or better all night and you yourself have to consistently go 80 plus
  8. Truth Swarm, hats off to Fairview, athlete wise they shouldn't have even been in the game with Straford. Your guys are scrappy and played hard. Impressive on that front Covington however, I encourage you to watch a youtube of a Covington game, you'll see the speed disparity. Covington like yall plays hard however they also got 4 backs that'll take it to paydirt. I'd say all (4) at 4:9 or better with (2) 4:4 or so and that's with lots of deception/trickeration. They're not that big either but not lacking in run skill or speed Playoff football essentially at this point usually favors the team that limits(makes) the fewest mistakes. Covington is solid in all phases. If Stratford make those mistakes against Covington, it will be running clock They were 2-8 for a reason and appear they are who I think they are. Athletes everywhere with little rhyme or reason. Anything can happen . I just think they are on a run cause they have played teams that they could compensate their lack of skill, execution, their plethora of follies with better athletes. Won't be the case at Covington. Straford will have better athletes but Covington will have superior execution
  9. Additional observations after finishing watching Stratford Fairview 1st half. The above/preceding observations were after only seeing 1st qtr and one play or so of 2nd qtr(that conversion of a 4th & 1 by Stratford on their own 26 to start the 2nd Qtr. Additional to previous assessments, Fairview is Big & slow, but they are/were also tiny. Fairview OL was Big but that's all. Backs are/were little bitty. Look at 40, he looks like small middle school kid as do many of the others. Fairview's defense was very small, tiny as well. I have to give em big credit for doing as well as they did against Stratford. Stratford has 99 problems but not having athletes ain't one. They got 22 as good, I'd say better than any team any class in the state, athletes wise. But that's where it ends At half 2 punts, maybe 7 yards tops at most. Punt snap looks like they're snapping a beach ball back there. The Punt looks like they're punting a beach ball as well. It's a hope & a prayer that it(the punt) gets back to the LOS, that's best case scenario hoping/considering the snap gets back there at all or over punter's head etc or blocked. Offensively it's give to athlete RB & hope he out athletes d, which it is evident they are capable of doing. He would so benefit from a real scheme, some deception, misdirection. This team could be outstanding, they are just getting by by out athleting opponents. It definitely exposes 3A, way too many mediocre teams in 3A Stratford Team Indicators(5 star scale) Scheme is NO Stars Athletes 5 Stars Kicking Game No stars Run Game 3 Stars (Covington will have 10 plus tfl's) Passing is a 1 Star at best Defense 4 Stars Stratford is the Bad News Bears of 3A but loaded with raw talent They are surviving,as you can do with great athletes, on defense, Be it back yard defense at that. Covington will expose em Covington will reverse em, trap em, boot em, fake punt em, trick play em, take advantage of the litany of errors, field position Easy to see how they've advanced & easy to see how/why they were 2-8 as well
  10. Ok, just watched rest of 1st qtr. Past my bedtime but it's a short week. Stratford looks like a 2-8 team to me. How did they beat Pearl Cohn? Will not be surprised at all to see Covngton beat em 55-0 like PC did in the regular season, the first time. As I ascertained/anticipated by the opening kickoff, kicking for Stratfford is back yard, evidenced/supported by that missed PAT to make it 7-6. Additionally if they give Covington that kinna kickoff field position, the score keeper will be plus +6ing real quick all night. This team is most certainly not a Blue Cross Blue Shield Bowl legit kinna team. They go for it on 4 and one on their own 20ish against Covington and it'll be running clock real quick. Prolly same result if even punt. And those weak swing passes to the trips side, Covington will be hitting em in the mouth for a loss and dey real close to being laterals at that(Covington will be recovering for possession). And this spread everybody out only to give to RB straight ahead with base blocking Covington gonna meet ball carrier at the mesh point, tackle for loss. Stratford looked to be sleep walking on defense when Fairview scored that first possession that was aided by poor kickoff(excellent field position) & pass interference, they come out lackadaisical like that in Covington it'll be 28-0 1st Qtr. If they think Covington is gonna be like Fairview they in for a treat. I didn't see much at all in Fairview that's why Stratford got a W despite all these issues. Fairview's OL is Huge no doubt, however #1 wouldn't start at Covington, #40 wouldn't, 22 wouldn't 10, 3, 16 wouldn't and 2 wouldn't either. All 4 of Covington's backs are better than any of Fairview's, no doubt. Fairview's best back/runner would be at best the 5th best at Covington. Just real talk. They can go ahead and print the tickets for 3A I believe Upperman has a better chance of upsetting Alcoa than Stratford does beating Covington. jmo They look 2-8 in every aspect to me. I may be wrong. I have only watched the 1st Qtr as of now, but I think it's enough to suffice
  11. True. Now let's look. Started 1st possession near midfield, right? as result of atrocious kickoff or maybe your take an outstanding kickoff, right? Had pass interference call on a throw it up pass, right? Saw 3 sweeps, back not enough speed on any to get to edge, right? Score on a quick slant basically, right? Remember started near midfield/near 50 yard line. And like you said scored on first drive, start of game, what like 35 yards of offense. And from glancing at the final score, it's pretty obvious they didn't do much rest of night. As said looked Big, slow, basic. They may have looked good to you on that drive but I think an open unbiased opinion would attest otherwise
  12. After watching the 1st drive of the Fairview Stratford game, a few observations. 1. Fairview is Big, slow, doesn't appear that good. Even look winded, out of shape & only first opening drive. 2. As I noticed, not a lot of speed. Covington backs way better. 3. Very few Statford fans made the short trip to Fairview 4. Fairview offense very basic, generic 5. Covington offense way better, crossbucks, boots & traps, jets 6.Covington backs would of scored on one of those hemmed in runs Fairview had 7. Stratford kicking game is, well I'll just let you decipher, your call 8. Covington will score early 9. Block a punt or two in kicking game 10. Open receivers were evident in Straford secondary in addition to the pi 11. Covington Defense will shout em/Stratford down, just like they did Raliegh Egypt & Pearl Cohn last year And that's only seeing one drive/Fairview on offense
  13. Wouldn't be surprised at all if Covington shuts em out
  14. Why did Whitwell go for two at the end of reg when a PAT kick would have won it. Could have cost em the game. And gotta give Roy Dillard credit, his input was enormous, definitely a diff maker. That 6-5 run or pass stopper defence he suggested stopped alot of that mess plus the genius mind of the tackling chickens practice Hearing he may be on staff next year
  15. Thinking of maybe flipping my pick. Heard the Grider man called a special practice session this morning. Grider had the defense chasing & tackling chickens. Initially the chickens were taking it to the house quite often however after an hour or so they were having a difficult time finding any running room. Specting rushing yards tonight to be held to a minimum. Wondering where he come up with such a genius idea. You think I'm kidding but I'm not. No chickens were harmed during this practice
  16. Damegay It doessn't get much better than Playoff football. Dollar General is plum sold out of fudge rounds. Get there early tonight, don't forget the gloves, hot chocolate & goose down and bring your own Murphy Fair mag, Roy Dillard will not be sharing his. You think I'm joking but I'm not Low scoring defensive battle. Whitwell in OT 17-14
  17. Longjohns, hot chocolate, Murphy's Fair Magazine & fudge rounds. It's Playoff Football Eve. Kickoff in less than 24
  18. 45-26 8-4 12-0 BB's don't win games in bigboy football
  19. No November to Remember for the Dawgs 2018
  20. This is what Playoff football should look like. Should be a dawg fight. Decided in the 4th Qtr. Includes all the necessary components 2 battle tested teams, Dillard's Murphy Fair mag & fudge rounds
  21. State Championships aren't what they used to be. No doubt. 9 classes(9 State Champions) smh. Passing out Championships like government cheese. At this rate we'll soon have a class with 4 teams, 1 in 4 chance of winning SC off the bat. 3A now has less than 4 legit teams in entire bracket. 4A is filled with 0-10, 1-9, 2-8, 3-7, 4-6, 5-5 teams, doesn't even resemble playoff ball til at least round 3. smh. Destroying mystique & prestige of Playoff Football & State Titles. Diminished BigTime
  22. What about the Yanker? Does anybody remember the one and only Yanker? He was a JCM fan
