  1. I'm with you on the talent race thing. My fear is kids won't play who otherwise would because of reduced chance of playing time and prospect of going against a 210 pound run like a deer hit like a truck LB or a 300 pound lineman. The talent wars have begun it's just that a few teams are a few years ahead of the rest, but just like the SEC and any other football conference, everyone will catch up or at least try.
  2. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to identify kids on scholarship, but how does one know how many players on a particular team are receiving scholarships, how much they are receiving, etc? Isn't this all a guess unless you are an administrator or a coach or board member with specific knowledge? Public school folks sometimes think all of the private school players are on scholarship, but I can tell you that's not accurate or at least it wasn't a few years ago.
  3. I think it's been more than just this past year Boog-believe it or not the competition was pretty good before ND came on board-Webb hasn't won the title in at least 3 years and we have been talking about over the last 5 year span-I agree though the level has definitely been raised
  4. Spartan- I have lamented this fact over the last year or so and would like your take: if I'm understanding you correctly Webb used to have more students playing football with fewer elite players on scholarship whereas now, it's maybe more or at least a higher level of elite scholarship players with fewer students going out for football hence the reduced roster size--- right? If so, this is my concern. In the race to win, money and scholarships keep average student players from enjoying the game of football. Old AA (now AAA) ideas and philosophies have trickled down to AA and will eventually to A. Kids that would have played now see no point in going out for the team. I know I'm behind the times and this has been going on especially over the last 5 years, but it sure stinks and once again we have allowed the all mighty dollar and drive for glory squeeze out one of the most important aspects of high school that fewer and fewer students will ever get to enjoy. I'm just an old codger I guess.
  5. Now that is the smartest comment I have heard in a while about the number of scholarship athletes on a team. I was at a game last year and one of the supporters who I assumed to be a relative or friend of a football player said "right there stands a million dollars" and it was the team huddled up after the game. I said 50 players? and he said yep but 40 of em at $25,000 a pop. For years Webb has had a small team number 35-40, but I would venture a large percentage received some form of financial aid. Spartan can you confirm? 200 student population school with 35 scholarship players can play with 600 student school with 10 scholarship players easy imo.
  6. Pep is correct- Webb should be playing with the big boys and would be but for their coach on the BOC of the TSSAA. Pure shenanigans to use a Booger term.
  7. The stunt, if true, would be indicative of their operation. I will leave it at that, but sooner or later.......
  8. I will let Booger fight his own battles, but biggest difference to me is just like last year in the championship game-- it ain't being played at Lausanne. Look for a much closer game for that reason alone.
  9. Booger, Luzianne has or had an all state DE last year who is or was a terror. Really good #2 is or was his #. I guess he has been injured all season but if he magically makes it back for the championship he is a real factor. Wanted you to be aware. I think everybody else was present for their last game
  10. Wow- i know the ethical implications but I assume the rule book says it's illegal? Wonder if Wilson can shed some light on the subject? Wilson?
  11. Booger- please elaborate on the spying. Who (coaches, etc), when, where, how?
  12. Pulling for Notre Dame big time in this one. I mean really big time!
  13. There is a photo in the local Williamson county paper of one of the blocks. Don't know if it was the first or second which resulted in the injury or maybe a different block earlier in the game, but it does involve the two players in question.
  14. bcd- didn't see the game, but read the comments. I think cut blocks are one of the worst parts of football. The kids don't seem to really know how to do it in or out of the box and ultimately players get hurt. in the box alot of chop blocks are disguised as cut blocks and guys get hurt. I hope the young man is ok for next year and hopefully this year as well.
  15. That's hilarious yet probably true. Wait til they send the deputies over to tell you to stand behind the line or maybe somebody says the ref needs glasses. Lots of safe spaces over there except for you.
  16. Best thing BGA could do is what KWC suggested a couple of weeks ago. Get there early and take over the home stands! It's the only way they will be able to see the game and not get run over on the sidelines.
  17. BGA may be good, but they will not win at Lausanne unless they are awesome. Lots and lots of factors at Lausanne in addition to their players who are really really good. Lausanne will negate any pass rush with speed from the RB and the QB. Are BGAs LBs good? I understand BGAs DBs are good, but unless Lausanne hurts themselves with penalties (won't get called remember its at Lausanne) and really it's just turnovers, they win by 10.
  18. Sparty- See my prior questions and comments on line play and get ready.
  19. BCD-didn't mean to not respond to you. I haven't seen that particular game but I watched several. I think it makes a huge difference as the OL dominates the los.
  20. Thanks Warriors- you have answered my question and I agree. I think kids are so driven for pancake blocks this occurs and should be called. I can see the DL getting driven back and getting pancaked, but not the above. Thanks again
  21. Hands are not always inside shoulder pads-OL hands on outside but not a handful of jersey-looks like tremendous upper body strength but it's a twisting take down-I think its holding but was not called so maybe I'm wrong-the games I saw all of the OL were doing it so it's definitely a technique
  22. I got a question-- is it holding for the offensive lineman to take on a defensive lineman, and basically with upper body only, turn the DL and take him to the ground without pulling on the jersey? I mean no pulling the DL down, but instead twisting the DL's upper body in a wrestling take down move and going to the ground?
  23. I don't think I can make my weekly post. Booger is just too obnoxious and inflated for a rookie. Pulling for somebody big time, but not in this one!
