  1. I don't like to point out when paper champions fail but...Oh heck, who am I kidding...Of course I do! It seems things have been very quite from the hype machine in Cleveland after what I would consider a dismal showing at the Knockout Christmas Classic in Florida. This tournament is not really what one would consider a national level event and to finish a distant fourth leads me to believe that the Cleveland national ranking was nothing more than a fantasy created by social media hype (and cool graphics). Of course Cleveland is still the #1 AAA team in Tennessee, but I don't think its too much to ask that the talk of "best Tennessee team ever...only nationally ranked Tennessee team...etc." be dialed back to a much lower level. There is no doubt money can buy success on our state level but national pockets are apparently much deeper.
  2. Wow! After all those messages you post defending Cleveland, you are going to throw out this barb as an excuse as why Bradley is no longer the favorite? For once, I am almost speechless.
  3. If The Bros finish ahead of Baylor this weekend in KC will there still be excuses or will you guys admit that maybe winning Bradley Invitational by 50 and the Indian Classic by 20 was not a fluke.
  4. HAHAHAHA, so let me get this straight, rankings are a very very bad idea to use for seeding purposes in a tournament but they are valid and legitimate enough for you to use in trying to prove a point about another wrestler's validity in ranking. You must have two personalities and both have access to the same screen name.
  5. I was only using Lundy as an example. But again you prove my point. There are several other wrestlers across the state at different weights who have the same accolades or better than Lundy who are not in the rankings because of the team they are on. It is, in fact, the Cleveland Factor! If Lundy was back at Hamilton, he would not be in the rankings. Lets look at a few examples, hey what do you know, right at 145: Cole Klingensmith from Summit, former state medalist and also only 1 loss on the year. Ryan Brown, Lebanon at 170. Undefeated on the year. Not ranked.
  6. That would work out great for you since Soddy won't be sniffing the rankings for a while
  7. You completely proved my point!!! I knew if I gave you enough rope, you would hurt yourself. The fact that you feel that kids on those 4 teams do not need to prove their ranking is exactly the Cleveland Factor and why Legacy Ranking is such an issue. Obviously the poll voters also feel the same. A wrestler from any of the teams other than the "power 4" must prove their worth in order to be ranked, but one from Bradley Co or Cleveland should just get the nod because their school has a history of success. Using your logic the NFL should scrap the playoffs and put Greenbay and New England in the Superbowl each year.
  8. This argument effectively discount one team's success. The Bros beat who was put in front of them. Rankings should reflect such. If Pace and whoever else is missing at States and CB wins will the final rankings list Baylor ahead because if, if, if........
  9. Three thumbs up Purple! If it's a legacy team that loses then the argument is always that someone was missing or someone is not at weight or my favorite, one of their good wrestlers got caught. Haha!
  10. Ham--your keyboard says one thing but your rankings say another. I'm going to let you slide on Jones and give you the benefit of the doubt assuming you were just being lazy and chose the highest returning medalist without doing any homework at 82 to see if he is actually the best wrestler at the weigh this year. BUT I can't let you slide on Lundy. What is your rationale to give him the one seed with no prior state medal and zero notable results from this season. He didn't even wrestle last season. Are we factoring in freestyle results now? Perez 3rd? Benefield 3rd? I am just saying there seems to be a great deal of blind faith in some of these guys. If they were from Antioch or Dickson Co. would they get the same love with the same lack of proven results?
  11. Beech, Brentwood, Rossview, and Centennial all finished ahead of Summit at Beech Invitational and all 4 are ranked behind Summit. The Bros dominated Bradley County Invitational over Baylor (who beat Cleveland) yet they're 3rd behind both. Yes, I know AC will say its "primary based on dual meet strength" yet Science Hill is ranked ahead of Maryville who beat them in a dual.
  12. You forgot to factor in the Cleveland Factor. Wherever he falls in the rankings on a objective basis, the Cleveland Factor automatically moves him up 3-4 positions. It a very scientific algorithm that factors in many elements such as number of views on YooTube, likes on FaceSpace, and amount of marketing posters distributed. You will find that Jones, Lundy, and others on the roster have also benefited from the CF.
  13. The only person ROSSVIEW has faced even mentioned in this poll is NO ONE and they XXX. In order for them to get any votes they're going to have to start beating the teams on this list and I don't think they face anybody on here until ??? Substitute Rossview for Page. Does the above statement sound familiar to you? WrestlingGod, whats the difference?
  14. So if a team is a returning state medalist and lose 80% of your team to graduation you think that team "deserves" to be in the first ranking? And from that logic it appears that you subscribe to the system of Legacy ranking. I assume you are also voting to add Soddy back.
  15. So you're saying if the poll gods anointed a team as top 12 during the first week, then the only way another team not in the poll can replace them is by beating one of the chosen 12? Has Brentwood faced anyone in the poll? Should they have to wait until January to get placed? WG, you need to rethink your argument.
  16. I am sure the voting has been done for this week, but I hope the esteemed panel of sheep, I mean voters, took a look at some results. Your new top 10 team should be Page. I am going out on a limb and saying they slot in top 8.
  17. It appears there will be some shake up this week. AC, I hope your group of pollsters are paying attention and don't vote with their hearts and 2010 yearbooks this week. I'll help out with some cliff notes: Baylor put a hush over the crowd and reminded everyone that the Big Red Machine is alive and well in Chattanooga. Arlington made a statement with their strong win over Bradley, I know it will be hard for the voters but its time to recognize and run them up the ladder. Wilson Central had a very strong showing at the Indian Classic. I think a replacement is needed for Beech in the poll. They had a very bad weekend--only an 8th and 6th place finish, also at the Indian Classic. It appears they were missing 2 wrestlers but not enough to keep them in the discussion. Blackman won the Carpet Classic but the jury is still out, that tournament seems weak (to put it nicely). So who fills in at 11 & 12 this week? Disclaimer: If Soddy shows up on the poll again, this poll will officially be deemed invalid and should be removed from any future discussions.
  18. You agree 110% about not caring about the poll YET you post results implying FR should be ahead of Wilson Central in the poll because they beat them. Seems conflicted to me. Does it make you sore riding that fence?
  19. FRHS - what you must understand with this poll is results do not matter. It is based on the combined years of knowledge and what has historically been the wrestling landscape in Tennessee. If the same pollsters put together a college wrestling poll, no doubt, Iowa & Minnesota would be at the top and Boise State would make the top 12.
  20. I made myself a vow that I was going to be nice to Airhead Chamber this year but him and his merry band of head in the sand pollsters have forced me to come out swinging from the very first poll! Are you going to force me to say it? AC, did you slip Soddy in there just to screw with me? I can't believe this is real. Maybe its a typo. How many votes do the Soddy coaches get? How bad does Soddy have to get before they stop receiving LEGACY votes? Arlington is being disrespected but I imagine they will correct this on their own. Glad to see Oakland getting some well deserved love as well.
  21. Are you for real? I hope you don't have a vote
  22. Here we go again with the Soddy because they are Soddy, conversation. Unless there are some transfers and upcoming freshmen that have been hiding under a rock, Soddy is NOT in the conversation. You are correct though, they will always be in the conversation, but that doesn't mean they SHOULD be. I told you all last year it was a hype machine when they were being picked top 5. With all due respect, they are much worse off this season compared to last. I was truly hoping we didn't have to do the legacy vote again this year but I guess I was wrong.
  23. I'm not really predicting them as runner up, I just listed them. But I would say the top 4 are set with Cleveland the clear favorite, I would have Wilson runner up, Bradley and Beech tight race for 3rd. The next 6 could go any way and there will be others who sneak into the top 10 and someone here will be eliminated.
  24. I would make the following prediction based on returning state medalists and state qualifiers. No adjustment for incoming freshmen or transfers. Should be a starting point for discussion. Cleveland Beech Wilson Central Bradley Arlington Blackman Tennessee Science Hill Clarksville Lawrence Co.
  25. Well said. Not sure I have ever seen a secondary official provide a contrary opinion to the primary official. As such, they're not going to overrule themselves just because there is video evidence. Have you ever seen the evaluation committee at the State Tournament? Its a dog and pony show. I have personally watched them observe very bad calls with not only bad judgement but misapplication of the rules. I never saw them corrected and the same official is rewarded for their ineptitude with a return trip to State the following season. Makes sense.
