  1. Why someone would get upset at officials during camps is beyond anything that is close to having an idea about what those type events are designed for. But the actual games during the school season is where the focus should be for better officiated games.
  2. anyone that yells at any official during summer camp is a idiot. Not what the event is about. But the players are always going to vary from poor to very good, coaches the same. Has been for all time. Officials have also for years but are getting progressively worse as a whole. Although I saw probably the best called games I have watched all season last night with the Dyer County vs Ripley match up. Two guys and a lady. One weak ref. He was older , out of shape, couldn't run the floor and was consistently bad. Other two called fairly well. Didnt make themselves a part of the game. Kids were able to play and decide the game while the clock was running and not stopped during free throws and explanations given to coaches and very consistent as to how they were going to make their calls. Older guy had no rhyme or reason but fortunately the players controlled the outcome of this game by their play. ladies game wasnt much of a matchup so no way to evaluate the refs. Guys game showed the difference.
  3. I haven't seen Miller. Not in the area I see often. Moore is tops on my list at this time though
  4. saw Greenfield last night again. Still impressed with the duo they have.
  5. I've see all the young ladies you have mention multiple times over the last years. Chloe Moore is the player which stands out to me and I would not take anything else away from the rest of the girls. I'm impressed each time I see her more and more.
  6. I have attended a unbelievable number of middle school and high school games all over West Tennessee mostly and ventured into other parts of the state and neighboring states too. I can say I have never seen anyone flip off an official at any of them. I can say I've seen them booed and laughed at. I've seen fans on their feet yelling and stood up a few times myself. But obscene gestures ...never have I seen thank goodness.I realize maybe I have not been in some areas as much as others though.
  7. There are bad people in every profession but with carpenters, plumbers, doctors, lawyers, grocers or even undertakers you can always go to another and change. You don't get to change refs. You stuck with them. And the good ones suffer because of the bad.
  8. You cant say enough about the value of a good teacher. Way under paid way over worked.
  9. Agree. Too often than not they don't make the call
  10. Dîsagree that every time a whistle is blown half the gym is mad. I have seen countless times a whistle is blown that everybody in the building agreed. Problem is the exact same infraction is not called the next trip down the floor. That's what brings out people frustrations. It's the inconsistancy. It's officials who say they want and are there to do a good job and they know better than any one else in the room about the rules are too lazy to put the effort on the floor. Looking in the crowd, blowing bubbles with their gum and looking in the crowd for the momma that booed at them last time they called a foul when there was 4 players to block their view and was at opposite side if floor right in front of another ref with a clear look of the action. i do agree that money isn't the answer. in fact maybe the should lower the pay to get the ones that just want the check and see how fast they can get the game over officials out of the rotation of games. How about letting the coaches and fans get to show by voting right after the game by a show of hands if refs get the full check for doing a good job or for a bad job they can get 9cents because they were not worth a dime for the sorry job they just did.
  11. I am not buying it either. Not sure what school you attended 15 years ago but the crowd has not changed. Coaches, players, parents and spectators are not asking for perfection here. Just consistency. Its just not happening. You cant blame the Coaches, players, parents and spectators for not being consistent because they are. The common thing here is bad officiating. Not even going to call out one guy I saw last night by name. Was at the Henry County visit to Dyer County. There was one guy that blew his whistle 70 % of the time. Didn't matter where he was on the floor. How bad his position on floor. Once he wasn't even looking at the play in front but turned around arguing mouthing with a coach who wasn't even looking at him but watching his players. He was not just bad for the home team but for both teams. His eye sight was so bad he almost walked right into a cheer leader flipping down the floor twice and was looking right at them. One of other guys where so lazy he often would not pass the mid court line even on free throws. But hey. That's the crowds fault right ? Just not buying your argument. Officials need to step their game up.
  12. Hey. not sure who you got tonight but we ended up with the guy you mention. Games weren't much contest but he had his moments of blowing the call. But you iwe us. we absorbed your pain tonight.
  13. Agree here too. Its seems some of the guys that have been around for a while might think the game is about them. There is this one guy we always get down around Munford and Brighton especially in the District and Regionals that looks a lot like Curly off the 3 Stooges and he will yell at the coach from across the floor if a coach even tries to ask a question. Will make a call from across and at other end of floor and like me needs to lose 25 pounds. Sweats like a cold beer in 100% humidity. But there is a guy we get in Dyer County some, Not enough though) that doesn't ever say a word. If the call is questions he just listens to the coach and goes on. Never seen him change his expression at all. Just disappears and lets kids play. Does he get it all right , no. But is consistent. Unlike the Curly in Munford, that says he always gets it right no matter what.
  14. If Dyer County is getting the elite, man do I feel for you guys. I know the guy you referenced and we get him too. Along with some other that are not good. The Gleason girls team you will see tonight is really talented. They have two Division 1 playes and they know how to play the game. I enjoyed watching their point guard absolutely run the show. See the floor, controls tempo, makes the pass and makes sure best shot is taken. The other kid can flat score. I didn't see Gleason Boys team.
  15. Ahh pay back lol. Just a joke. Look I believe there was far more than a handful. If you remember the game, there were no fouls called until 7:40 in the 2nd quarter and with as many as fouled out they certainly didn't quit calling fouls it just began. But even so the ones they called were just so crazy. Non the less, I am referring to the overall officiating I have seen this year and not at all only the game Monday night. It was just the latest poor example I am referring too. I actually really enjoy coming to HC, it a fun place to watch a game. I hate it when it is so poorly officiated. I do believe if the game film was looked at, and hind site is 20/20, you and I would laugh together at some of the calls that were just terrible.
  16. TSSAA puts on clinics and even if they do not show up they still get to call games? Seems TSSAA could if wanted change that. Those not showing up for clinics are just in it for the check maybe and it shows up in the officating. I see the same guys doing football, basketball, baseball and volleyball and you are saying they do not have any type of training or clinics ? That's the start of the problem right there.
  17. I have no doubt about being a shortage. You see the same guys doing multiple sports. Are they looking to keep the gigs all to themselves? Maybe while at those events some recruiting could be done and gain some folks who are truly knowledgeable about the game itself and not start from scratches? There are some Moms and Dads that have a pretty good grip on the sports their kid plays and could do good job if someone was to say one word about it. I
  18. The easy argument is always say to someone " well you get a whistle and get out there and help" . I would love to sign up today. I fully intend to when my children are no longer involved in high school sports. Officials should not have family involved or work for school systems to eliminate and appearance of favoritism. So I might have learned something here also. You say local associations hire the officials and TSSAA has nothing to do with them ? I can not see how that can be the way TSSAA controls down to the penny everthing else and regulates the sports in high school. If they truly want to make the games better for the kids then someone needs to get a grip on it. Maybe they do make a call in a 1/2 second, but consistently wrong isn't doing anyone, kids, coaches, schools, TSSAA and especially the officials any good at all. I have sat with other refs in the stands just their watching the games and watched them shake their head time after time. A review system is needed and if there is a consistent issue with one official them help can be given.
  19. TSSAA has to come on board and do something to help in training officials that work the basketball games for the sake of the girls and boys that play the game. I am not looking for perfection just consistency. But competence should be required. Each year for past 10 years I am amazed at the ever increasing lower and lower standard the games are called at. Last night I witnessed the games in Henry County, I would have been ashamed to have those referees call a game if I was TSSAA or show up in our home gym and do what they did on the floor last night. TSSAA should adopt the system other states use and grade referees after each game with coaches having to file a report within 24 to 48 hours of the performance by each referee. Them eliminate the consistently bad reports after reviewing game film each school could provide. Review and Replace needs to begin now. Its just sad that kids work so hard on both teams to be subjected to a referee would shouldn't be on the floor. It takes away from the game.
  20. Thinking the freshman fouls caught her during Tuesday game. As time goes on and she continues to work on her game, I think you will see why she has attracted early attention.
  21. Curious on your thought about the Dyer County/Lexington game Tuesday. I thought Lexington looked very sharp at start of game and were more physical with their posts. DC looked like it was the first game. Lexington did good job with pressure in 1st quarter and were beating the zone press well. The man press seemed to be hard for Lexington to handle and took its toll rest of game with turnovers and fatigue . Also thought DC was deeper on bench and wore Lexington down by playing more girls. Thought both teams showed 1st game jitters and mistakes especially the DC freshman.
  22. Saw the Flight West team couple times this summer. Believe were a couple of Peabody players there also with them. Saw Gabby Crawford in Louisville. Dyer County Suns are mainly a school team with their stronger players playing with other teams. Dyer County had a number of girls playing AAU this year. Tori Daniels (2018) with Slink, Aleix Akins (2019) Memphis Select, Amari Pugh (2018) Memphis Select, Katelyn Anderson (2019) Memphis Select, Serria Taylor(2021) with couple of teams.
