  1. I think this is rather funny to be totally honest. You guys are talking about this game like you did not expect some heated tempers. This is what we call a RIVALRY game and I would not expect anything less than some flaring tempers and maybe some questionable calls. Yes, maybe it is not appropriate I understand but that is what rivarly games are all about: great hustle combined with some heated emotion. I am not condoning cheap shots or unsportsmanlike play, but honestly you have to be kidding me if you didn't expect any of this. It happens in all sports in all rivarly games. That's what is so great about high school rivalries. Either way, I again give my best regards to both teams on yet another great rivarly matchip.
  2. Come on....I understand what the Houston player has done is definitely not necessary but I have definitely heard of Ridgeway players of doing the same. I am not accusing any of this year but I can definitely remember more than one occasion where a ridgeway players has done this. Actually if i recall, one was against Houston last year. I guess what goes around comes around
  3. I definitely agree. Both teams showed heart in this heated rivalry. Scales' emotion got the best of him but I would not have expected otherwise from him. Is this true that since MUS won by 3 they got homefield advantage? If this is so, that made the endgame just that much more exciting
  4. An ABSOLUTELY GREAT GAME!!! MUS tops CBHS 9-6 in a very hard, scrappy fought game. Scales was laying the wood like no other out there. MUS pulls out the lead early leading 5-2 at half but CBHS makes a 3-0 run to get within one near the end in the 4th quarter at 7-6. But brilliant offense and an absolutely incredible run by John Klinke helped MUS pull away and score 2 to put the Brothers away 9-6. From what I hear, MUS had to win by two to get homefield advantage for playoffs or something, so it made it that much more exciting at the end. Tempers were flaring in the rivalry but all in great fun(although it got pretty heated at some points). SCALES BABY! BOOYAH GIBBY!!!
  5. This looks to be a great game. Not only is it a bitter high school rivalry but is no longer "one-sided" by the outcome of their last matchup. However, I do not believe MUS comes into this game as cocky. That is the LAST things on their minds coming off wins over Lassiter and McCallie. I have got to go with MUS in this one for 3 factors: 1) Revenge factor is huge, especially in rivalry games 2) Homefield advantage always helps. I dont care what team it is. 3) MUS, player by player, is just a better squad. I am looking forward to a close game...and I have to keep the stereotypes up so BOOYAH GIBBY!!!
  6. I'm not as knowing about the public school division as private but I'll put in my two cents worth. I personally believe Houston is one of the best teams in their division. They have very strong midfielders led by Coleman Whitsitt and a solid defense. Up front is where they are having trouble, but really that is only because of injury and from what I am hearing, will be at full strength possibly by at least the state tournament. I would love to see this strong Houston team go up against Brentwood as from the results Brentwood is posting, they are a very strong team. My thoughts are Houston has the best shot out of Memphis of bringing home the state trophy to Memphis in the AAA class.
  7. MUS returns practically the entire defensive side of the ball....bar maybe 3 players that I can remember, which is a big factor for them considering their defense was very strong last year. Offensively they've got some work to do as they lost a large number of players(not to mention big time players like JD Lawhorn). They have some young guns that look like they can step up very strong next year, but of course that means nothing until they actually prove themselves. I would say MUS is a team "on the edge"....maybe a darkhorse? Or at least an interesting team to watch next year after their state championship run from this past year
  8. Ridgeway most definitely did not dominate this match. Beyond the brilliant goal by the Ridgeway midfielder they had maybe one or two more shots, which could hardly be considered shots in the first place. In the first half, I don't even think they had one shot that the keeper had to save. MUS also controlled possession of the ball and were way more organized. Ridgeway is a very good soccer team but to say they "dominated" the game is ridiculous.
  9. Was the "like rainer" comment absolutely necessary? Each player has their own style and I am seeing this as another pathetic attempt to get people roused up and start arguing again.
  10. I do not know what game you were watching but that foul was clearly a PK. From what I saw the Ridgeway player, who was much bigger than the MUS player, ran over him and nearly fell himself because of his momentum. I am not sure as to where the foul was but I also did notice that the ball had been flicked on to a WIDE OPEN MUS midfielder who was tapping it in as the foul was called. So in actuality the ref gave Ridgeway another chance to stop the shot. This was from my perspective though so I will leave it at that. Another great game otherwise, again MUS's shooting woes lived on much like the bearden game where MUS controls a game but can not do what counts: put the ball in the back of the net. Ridgeway is definitely talented this year and should provide some compeition in their division. In the past these 2 teams have always had some nailbiters and it was nothing less this time around. Being somewhat biased towards MUS I believe they should have won based on shot oppurtunities and ball control but again the only thing that matters is if the ball crosses that goalline. Goodluck to both teams for the rest of the season
  11. Umm....exsqueeze me, but MUS is SOOOO gonna win by like a million bagillion goals baby!! Scales is gonna knock some heads and Noel Sawyer and Gibby are gonna tear the goal to pieces and they are gonna have to buy a new one.....BOOYAH GIBBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. I agree....In seeing the MUS and CBHS game Bearden proved they are a capable team, however I don't know if they could do what they did over again. Both MUS and CBHS are possession teams and showed that in the games by dominating possession and shot count. However, Bearden masterfully played the counter-attack and ultimately did what counts: put their shots in the back of the net. I clearly thought MUS and CBHS were going to eventually win those games even with the lapses but Bearden hung in and proved the High School soccer isn't just about raw talent like club soccer may be. Heart and hustle proved to be the factor in both games between the Division II West powerhouses. I think if given the chance both teams would defeat Bearden if given a rematch but that is not obviously going to happen.
  13. That's unfortunate to hear about BGA. Would have loved to see that matchup between MUS and BGA. But I am hearing only the game with Bearden will be played on the Mike Rose complex for MUS so the field differences may change some outcomes. Still should prove to be some quality games. As for ECS, they lost some key players from last year, but I haven't heard anything on them being in this tournament. They still have a few quality players from last year's squad though.
  14. Lookin at some early schedules I found some great early Division II matchups happening in Memphis this weekend. MUS vs. Bearden Friday night MUS Vs. Father Ryan Satruday afternoon MUS vs. BGA sunday afternoon I also believe CBHS plays some of these teams the same weekend. This should prove to be some good early season matchups and will be interesting to see how the teams come out early. Although some teams play better as the season goes along I want to know what people think about what seems to be the best of the middle versus the best of the West in Division II Predictions? Scores? Information on teams for the weekend?
  15. I agree with both CBHS and MUS for Division II. Both have held state titles or been in the state finals past few years and have called attention because of it. I have heard about Baylor being a quality team this year but wouldn't they be more of a team to prove something this year? Maybe I am wrong but they havent really proven to be a team to beat but more of a team to prove that they are as good as the critics are given them. No hard feelings intended the Baylor fans out there
  16. I would have to say the keepers from MUS and CBHS for division II. Especially MUS's keeper who I have had the pleasure to watch the past few years. Saw him do great 2 years ago in two penalty shootouts in a row in their route to the state finals, and had a pretty good year last year. Same with CBHS keeper.
  17. Not taking anything away from the Middle or East regions for Division II, but after watching the past few years of Division II soccer(which was great) I have noticed that a team from the West has won the state championship for the past 4 years? I believe this is right. I've seen alot of talk so far about the middle and the east but I am sure(basing facts about past years) that the west is bringing some strong teams back to the table. MUS and CBHS are my obvious picks based on results from past few years but does anybody have anything to add about what they have?
