  1. That's the rebuilding part I referenced. Meigs won't fall apart because he's not there and as someone said there's plenty enough talent returning to compete for the region with just a serviceable qb.
  2. Next year will be a rebuilding one for Meigs, but they have quite a bit of talent coming up. I hope coach Fitzgerald stays there but I know the offers and dollars will come his way again.
  3. Coach Fitzgerald has done a tremendous job at Meigs. He turned down some profitable offers after last season at some big name schools because of his love and commitment to Meigs. Attending a football or basketball or softball game at Meigs is unreal, the entire town turns out to support their Tigers. SG obviously has some talent to go 10-1. Both teams should look forward to the challenge, because anything can happen when they hit the field.
  4. I'm envious of most of the sports programs that Meigs has, starting with the young kids all the way through high school. Be proud of what you've got, they do it right there!
  5. I'm a McMinn Central follower because of family connections, but have seen Meigs play a few times this year.
  6. That's funny. I won't give his name but he's a good Christian man who wouldn't lie. He wasn't critical of South Greene, he just gave his opinion of them and I assure you he knows the game. Let me be clear, I'm not a Meigs person but have seen them play a few times this year. He also said he thinks Greeneville will beat Elizabethton when they meet next time.
  7. Meigs does play a very tough non district schedule which will only help them. They'll probably lose a few of those games but that should only make them hungrier.
  8. I talked to a ref from the Greeneville area last night and he's called a few games South Greene played in this year. He said their big linemen were overweight and slow and they've played weak opponents.
  9. That hurts Cleveland's chances of finishing in the top 2 for sure. Why isn't she playing? I think Cleveland lost to Rhea Co. on Saturday.
  10. Last week I said it's critical to win Region this year if a team wants to have a chance to make it to state. I think region champ Central has lost the last three sectional games at the Round House. I think Meigs could have beat a not so great Dekalb last year in sectionals, but they lost to Central when it counted in the region championship.
  11. Since girls basketball is the ONLY team sports program that Central can boast about, this doesn't sound good.
  12. Soddy may be their Region champ, but they're not a good team. They lost to Ooltewah and Cleveland, neither of which are in the playoffs. 3A Red Bank blew them off the field. They barely beat (supposedly with the help of refs) a terrible Walker Valley team. OR has had a tougher schedule and has played some good games this year.
  13. The main thing is to win the Region this year and host Sectionals where you have a chance to advance to state. Being a runner up and having to play at Macon County (most likely) in Sectionals will put an end to any of our Region team's year. Meigs Middle has some good 8th graders, so that thin bench should be remedied next year.
  14. Lots of good discussion that I agree with. The 8th grader at Englewood is a good player and will dominate in the county this year. She's strong, has size, and has played on a very good AAU team in Knoxville. The youngest Baker girl (7th grader?) at Englewood may end up being the best of all the Baker girls, and that's saying a lot, assuming she takes a growing spell. Mountain View will have a good young team since they got a 6th grader to transfer there from Polk County this year. One of the biggest things that would help Central would be to have a Middle School team, comprised of girls from Englewood, Mountain View, and girls wanting to play on it from Etowah City school. Playing on their school team as it is now gives more girls opportunities to play, but at some point you should start separating the better ones and have them playing together before they get in high school. Playing a Middle School schedule against teams from other counties is far more competitive than playing teams just in your county.
  15. Most teams do the same thing as far as mixing up players on the floor, but I agree with whoever said there's a noticeable difference between this years Meigs' and Centrals' starters. It's even more noticeable when you consider Meigs has more quality depth. As good as Morgan has been I've watched him slowly lose his dominance over the past 3-4 years, due to not having Joe as an assistant and not being able to get the good players to come over from Athens or other counties. He had a pretty good group of Seniors last year and beat Meigs in the Region finals, but he lost to McMinn twice for the first time ever, and missed playing in the state tourney for the third year in a row. Central will always have a good, competitive team but their dominating days have passed.
  16. This will be the second time this season these two teams play. McMinn won the first meeting 37-13 in late September. Who do you think will win this time?
  17. This will be the second time this season these two teams play. Farragut won the first game 37-30. Who do you think will win?
  18. I admit I was astonished with Bradley's defensive alignments last night KNOWING what McMinn would be doing and who they'd be doing it with. And the Bears didn't seem to adjust much even when McMinn had a 3 point lead late in the game and went for it on 4th and 2. With a few alignment adjustments and some serious team soul-searching, Bradley should do alright against a 5-5 Farragut team.
  19. Do you Bradley fans think the Bears will get revenge against Farragut next week? Bradley's coach and many Bradley fans thought Bradley should have won that first game against Farragut this year. I think Bradley, McMinn and obviously Maryville wins the first round. I don't think William Blount will beat Dobyns-Bennett.
  20. It would be hard to compete with Meigs or even McMinn Central with only two good players, unless the other three starters are solid players. When you consider you need at least a couple of solid players to come off the bench periodically, Sweetwater probably won't be a threat if what you heard is true. BTW, I think Sweetwater's best player would be playing for Meigs if her dad wasn't Athletic Director at Sweetwater.
  21. McMinn had some good players that will be playing in college this year but they couldn't finish any better than 4th in district and district tournament last year, so the only way they'll finish 4th this year is because the 5th-7th teams in the district are terrible. Walker Valley may even finish 4th.
  22. If that 1A school you're mentioning was South Pittsburg, those Pirates would have hung 50 points or more on Bradley. If I was going to soften up a schedule, I sure wouldn't have had Bradley, East Hamilton, or Loudon on there. Bottom line, WV improved this year with a young team and better coaching.
  23. Central will have a pretty good group of young girls this year. It will be interesting to see if Sweetwater can be a serious threat this year.
  24. No, but not sure of your point. WV's non-region schedule was pretty tough. It's easy to cherry pick a weak opponent or two in any team's schedule.
