Oakland also beat Blackman and Cookeville by 21 each. It could be that Oakland is pretty darn good this year. They also beat Maryville by 3 who is dominant, year in and year out. You will see how good Cookeville is this Friday. They are a really good football team, all around. They only have 2 non-senior starters. It takes a pretty good effort to beat them. You guys may have a speed advantage in some spots, but they will give you guys a good game. That being said, I think Riverdale is a pretty good team, too. They may not be 'MJ good', but I think they'll give them a pretty good game.

No sir. This ‘old man’ has known them for almost 20 years. Respect them for all they’ve accomplished as coaches. Living in Murfreesboro and supporting my kid’s school doesn’t automatically make me an MJ ‘hater’. My only point was you could do a lot more to support MJ football by being humble and understanding that the respect will come, soon enough. Nobody will believe they can beat some of the best until they do it. Just the nature of sports. I was around Oakland football when they were 3-7 in 2007 and listened to how bad they were all through 2008 until we won the state championship that season. It will come.......just let it

Again, I never said I thought Riverdale would beat MJ. Someone posted MJ was too physical for Riverdale. I disagree with that. MJ may win, but it will be because they’re a better football team, not because Riverdale isn’t physical.

Again, never said a single thing about MJ's schedule and have said on numerous occasions that I know MJ is a good football team. The only negative thing I've witnessed is your constant chest thumping. I know Roger and Trey VERY well.......more than you will ever, guaranteed!

It's just humorous to me that you are in everyone else's forum spouting about 'no respect' for your team, yet you come in your team's forum and call ANYONE a troll. Been around these forums for a long time and I am seriously curious as to how you will react if MJ happens to lose. I'm sure I'll get the 'hater' tag you throw around so much, even though I haven't and will not say a negative thing about MJ. Last year’s Oakland team was averaging just over 49 points at this point in the season. This year’s squad is averaging just over 42 points. Minus the 17 point game against Maryville, I’m not sure the ‘not nearly as explosive’ comment is on point. Last year, they had several defensive and special teams TDs as well that they haven’t had this year. IMO, last year’s defense was a little stingier. Not so sure the offense was more explosive, by the numbers.

That's perception........not reality. We have NO skill players who are IB waiver kids. We have barely had any IB football players PERIOD in the entire time that the program has been in place.

My only point is that some people act like the IB program brings a ton of athletes to Oakland. The requirements to get accepted are stringent. There are very few major sport athletes at Oakland through an IB program waiver.

Although I'm not even close to sure how that works, I DO know that the actual IB program, itself, doesn't start until their junior year. There are prerequisite courses as freshmen and sophomores, I believe. AP courses in the 1st couple of years to prepare them for the rigor of the program. Not very well-versed on the ins and outs of the program. That's really all I know about it. ............and that it's REALLY TOUGH!!!

I completely agree!!! I meet parents all over the place, even in Florida this past summer, who are from other parts of the Southeast and different parts of Tennessee. The conversation usually turns to high school football when I say I'm from Murfreesboro, Tn. They always seem to know about Maryville and RuCo football. Makes me proud to be a tiny part of that.

I think you would be shocked at how few athletes are in the IB program. Oakland may have 2-3 starters TOTAL in all the major sports who are able to take an IB classload and be involved in a major sport.

It will definitely be a fantastic atmosphere! Can't wait to witness this collision! B45, any chance you can make sure we can get our barrels in the back gate? The student section repainted them to extend their life a few more years!! Lol
