  1. Somebody asked. Probably the step-cousin of nobody
  2. Since the 7v7 reference seems to have slipped over the heads of a couple of you folks, the point of that comment was that Oakland hasn't gotten to play BA except in scrimmages and 7v7. Someone had mentioned Oakland and BA playing in the regular season and that's what the reference was to. We've only played them in the above 2 settings since about 2006.
  3. Lolol Cant believe it took that long for someone to jump on that!! Lol
  4. Discussing anything with you is pointless because it’s never a discussion. Now you know my thoughts, too. Not just the winner of all of your Imaginary Football League games? Need to change your screen name to Football Gypsy
  5. We've had preseason scrimmages with them for the past few seasons. Actually beat them in the semifinals of the Titans 7v7 this summer. I wish we could play some real foosball with them!!
  6. Yes, sir. Not sure who that will be. Or I haven'e heard, anyway.
  7. We don't exactly have folks knocking the door down to play us, either! Our coaches spend months trying to fill a schedule every 2 years, just like Rankin. We got bailed out this year because we added a new high school in Rutherford County and our region. Luckily, we added Germantown and Cordova already so we won't be searching, from what I've been told.
  8. The defense was at full strength for the first time ALL SEASON at the beginning of the playoffs so they actually DID improve a TON at that point. I agree about an Alcoa/Oakland matchup. An absolute slobberknocker!!
  9. Agreed. Unbelievably physical. I love watching him run the ball, tbh.
  10. Agreed. I NEVER like to hear of other young men injured to the point of not playing. He is most definitely a baller! But we only beat them by 3 the year before without Hopkins! Of course, lots of factors were different. Just saying that all teams have to get through injuries. Part of the game.
  11. They didn't cross the 50 all night. He's a great player, but not crossing the 50? Not sure his playing would've changed the outcome. Oakland didn't play Murvul all 5 weeks of the postseason. I said they were playing their best football the last 5 weeks of the year. Again, there are several teams who could make a case.
  12. IMO, that's a valid point in week 2 of the season. Oakland was missing several key players. At the end of the season, I would disagree that Alcoa is better than Oakland. The Alcoa team I saw at the beginning of the season wasn't nearly the same team I saw when they played Maryville. Oakland was playing it's most dominant football during the last 5 weeks. Again, just my opinion. There are several good arguments for several teams.
  13. MTF, you can't debate with a crystal ball! You and I are WAY closer to Oakland football than he could even begin to comprehend and WE have no idea how those games would turn out. Pretty sure no one thought Oakland would blank Maryville or Whitehaven, either. No way to know what he claims to know. I guess we're just fooling ourselves. Pretty sure he would've said the same thing if either of us had come on here saying Oakland wouldn't let Maryville or Whitehaven cross the 50 the entire game, too!!
  14. Again, using your opinion as fact and acting like all others couldn't possibly have a valid reason for believing otherwise. Fact is, they didn't play those teams and there's no way to know the answer. I know you THINK you know, but you don't. Hard to have any type of debate with someone who believes what they are saying is fact, when, in fact, it is opinion.
  15. kwc, now that the game is over and it's been a few days, what is your honest take on Oakland, overall? I think you tend to be genuine in your analysis and I would like to hear your take. WH definitely had the players to play with Oakland. Those goal line stands made that pretty evident. It seemed like, as a whole, WH didn't think Oakland would be as good as the 2016 version. 2016 Oakland had a couple of extreme athletes, but I think the 2018 version was a better team, overall. That's what I was trying to tell you last week when we were discussing what makes this team go. I think WH really didn't expect Oakland to be as good as they were. It almost seemed as if they were shocked once the game got rolling and never could recover. I'm not even sure the coaches knew what to make of the situation. Losing 52 and 14 didn't help matters, obviously. From what I witnessed during the playoffs, there was nothing but focus from Oakland, even during warmups. Not even a little bit of chirping. Just focus. I've never witnessed a playoff run like the one I saw this November.
  16. KWC, you and DP1 just made the light bulb come on!! Lol. I was trying to figure out why he was so dead set on making us Oakland folk feel inferior about our Gold Ball! Crazy! You guys will have a chance to show him a thing or two next fall!!!
  17. Maybe you're right. 'MY way is the ONLY way' type of thinking.
  18. Enjoyed the friendly banter, even agreeing to disagree. Lol Good luck next season with whatever team you follow. On to basketball season!
  19. Your original argument was that Oakland would get thrashed by an up-tempo offense. Not one time did I ever say this team was one of the best ever or anything of that sort. My entire original point was that they beat the teams in front of them to win a championship. The ONLY reason I even responded to you was because you’re one of those ‘imaginary football league’ people who is trying to downplay what these guys accomplished by coming up with scenarios that you ‘think’ they couldn’t have won. Your arguments have changed several times throughout the course of this entire thread, but, originally, you were trying to get folks on here to agree that they couldn’t beat this team or that team, when they beat who they played en route to Cookeville. They DID dominate in the playoffs and if you want to say that’s because 6A was down, not because they are actually THAT good, then you’re correct. We will have to agree to disagree. Most folks don’t agree with your assessment. Saying that I don’t see the rest of the state play when you have NO IDEA who I am is pretty shortsighted. You would be shocked at how many 5A and 6A teams I’ve seen play in person or on film. Would be willing to wager that it’s a LOT more than you have.
  20. You call it ‘as your opinion’, not ‘as it is’. And your opinion is waaaaaaay off in several instances. Several non-Oakland folks here disagreeing with your ‘opinions’, as well. You have some type of ‘bias’ against this Oakland team would be a more accurate statement.
  21. Are you trying to get me to agree that Oakland won the State Championship because 6A was weak, not because they’re a good football team?? I completely disagree with that! Nobody else completely handled Whitehaven or Maryville like they did the past 2 weeks. I think, as in all years in high school football, it’s top heavy. As in the top 10-12 teams are better than all the others. Some years, those 10-12 are pretty equal. Other years, you get what happened the past couple of weeks. Definitely, just my opinion.
  22. The only point I’m trying to make in this discussion is that some type of spread or I or wing t offense, tempo or not, didn’t beat them. They gave up 8 or so points per game during the regular season and less than 4 per game during the playoffs. You kept coming up with these imaginary football games that they would lose, based on this personnel or that offensive scheme. Fact of the matter is that they played outstanding defense all season long, regardless of who we played. Just give the young men and the coaches their due without trying to figure out what they couldn’t do in the imaginary football league.
  23. Obviously. Your exact statement was that Oakland ‘literally plays only cover 3 and 1’. Most definitely incorrect. They also play 0, quarters, and 5. As I said earlier, which you keep avoiding, you haven’t watched them play enough to make an educated statement of what they ‘only play’. It’s been different every single week.
